Fresh notes of red and black cherries, plums and peppery spice. A wonderful wine for all occasions that will also pair well with a variety of classic Mediterranean dishes. Producer Information Established in 1845, the winery IPPOLITO is with its 160-year history, the oldest still existing winery in Calabria. The winery is located in the town of Cirò Marina, in the heart of the main Calabrian wine region, the Cirò. The 100 hectares of vineyards are almost exclusively planted with indigenous varieties. The vineyards of the estate cover all geographic opportunities offered from Calabria for viticulture. From dreamy hilly hinterland to the sunlit plains near the picturesque coastline. These various possibilities, combined with the passion for viticulture, which the family Ippolito inspired for generations, is also reflected in the quality of their wines. Already in the vineyard begins the careful selection of grapes, which gives the wines of Ippolito its special character and the unmistakable identity of Calabria. Ippolito 1845 strives - if possible - to apply modern technologies, without losing the tradition and history of operation. Today the family Ippolito can proudly look back on a long history and apply the experience acquired, so as not to lose track of the relationship between history, vine, soil and human influence. The desire to achieve something special, does the work in the vines into passion, and this in turn to the philosophy of life of the family.

Producer: Ippolito 1845 Vintage: 2021 Size: 750ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Red Blend Country/Region: Italy, Calabria Delicate and impressive depth on the nose. The finish is quite unique, rich and long lasting. Producer Information Ippolito 1845 is one of the oldest continuous viticulture sites within Calabria, having been established over 170 years ago when Vincenzo Ippolito first carved his initials into the stonework outside his cottage in 1845 within the vineyards of Cirò. Though the region itself was heavily dedicated to ariguclture, all wines created were consumed locally. After World War I Don Vincenzo Ippolito, wishing to continue the legacy of his grandfather, returned filled with the desires to create and innovate. His first steps were to build the first modern cellar in Cirò, and over the years the industry for wine grew in the region, leading to the birth of their first two official labels, a Cirò Rosso and a Cirò Riserva, both bottled after ten years of aging in large chestnut barrels. Following in their fathers footsteps, the two sons of Vincenzo, Antonio and Salvatore Ippolito, began to implement modern agriculture, with a drive towards mechanization without shrinking the value of quality. The first approaches to foreign markets begin with Germany and the United States. In Cirò in 1969 the grape varieties were identified as in Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco through the need for product specification for exporting. As the company continued to grow, the 60 ha of the hilly estate of Mancuso, in the heart of the DOC, was transformed into vineyards by planting only native varieties: Gaglioppo and Greco Bianco. Now the company is run by their fifth generation, and is now made up of three estates in the heart of the Cirò DOC: Mancuso, Feudo and Difesa Piana, which span across a total of 100 hectares. These estates range in in vine age from being planted in 1972-2005, and sprawl from the rolling hills to the sunny flat lands budding up to the Ionian Sea. The soils consist of sandy-silt, alluvial, and limestone matrix. The winery has not lost sight of their focus on celebrating underrated and under-utilized indigenous grape varieties, therefore the vinayards are planted to the following: Gaglioppo, Greco Bianco, Calabrese and Pecorello.

Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Champagne Chavost is a grower based in Chavot-Courcourt, just to the south of Épernay. All wines have no added sulfites. The domaine was formed in 1946. There are 5 hectares (12 acres) of manually harvested vineyards, currently in conversion to organic status. As well as avoiding sulfur, there are no chemical additions, chaptalization or acidity management, and no fining or filtration of the base wines. Fermentations use native yeasts. All of the white cuvées are made entirely from first-press juice. The Blanc D'Assemblage Brut Nature is the core non-vintage release with around 9000 bottles. It combines 47 percent each of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier with 6 percent Pinot Noir. The base wine is vinified entirely in thermoregulated stainless steel. Both the Blanc de Chardonnay and Blanc de Meunier have zero dosage though the former is labeled as an Extra Brut and the latter as a Brut Nature. Output for both is about 3,700 bottles. The Rosé de Saignée is two-thirds Pinot Meunier, one-third Pinot Noir. Only around 1,000 bottles are released. Eureka! is a Brut Nature based on Pinot Noir (70 percent) with equal parts of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Production is around 2000 bottles. Discontinued cuvées may still be avialble at some of the retailers on our database. Chavost also produces just over 1000 bottles of a Chardonnay Coteaux Champenois still wine. It spends 18 months in used French oak barrels. Vinification follows the same principles as the sparkling wines.

Ending in medium dry soft but concentrated finish. Great surprise. Producer Information Blandy’s Madeira was founded by John Blandy in 1811 and is well-known for producing quality Madeira, a fortified wine, from Portugal’s island of the same name, several hundred kilometers west off the northwest coast of Africa. The Blandy family is one of the original founding families of the Maderia wine trade and is the only family to still own and operate their original wine company on the island of Maderia. The recent history of Madeira and that of Blandy’s are closely aligned, enjoying the growth associated with an island on a major sea lane in the 19th Century. However, by 1925, the export market for Madeira experienced an all time low, requiring wine companies to come together under the Madeira Wine Association. The Blandy family headed the association and was able to stay in business while many individual Madeira companies ceased to exist. Madeira lacked the popularity it once had so in order to expand the global market, the Blandy’s offered the Symington family (Port producers since the 19th Century) a partnership in the newly named Madeira Wine Company in 1989. Together, these families have greatly expand the distribution network and marketing of the company's premier Madeira brands including Blandy's, Leacock's, Miles, and Cossart Gordon. Blandy’s produces many styles and quality levels of Madeira but is best known for its traditional, top quality, dated Madeiras capable of aging over 150 years. These Madeiras are produced from a single vintage and grape variety, and are categorized as either Vintage or Colheita dependant on wine character. Blandy’s was the first in Madeira to produce a youthful, vintage dated Madeira for early consumption with their 1994 Malmsey and created another new category for Madeira in 2002 with the introduction of “Blandy’s Alvada” – a blend of Malmsey and Bual. Blandy’s produces Madeira from all the principal grape varieties: Malmsey, Bual, Verdelho, Sercial, and Tinta Negra Mole. The vines are planted on steep terraced vineyards throughout the...

One of the best Olorosos around, it’s old enough to have that extra complexity, but not to be too aggressive, as Olorosos can easily get when they’re very old. James Suckling: Very dark brown. Fresh acidity, intense long flavours lingering into a warm finish. Beautiful… but no giveaway. Producer Information The origins of the Bodega Valdespino date back to 1264 A.D. The first member of the Valdespino family to cultivate and age Sherry wines was Don Alfonso Valdespino, one of 24 Christian Knights who fought for King Alonso to re-conquer the City of Jerez from the Moors. As a reward for a successful battle, the King rewarded the Knights, including Don Alfonso Valdespino by giving them land in the City of Jerez.Although commercial activities are recorded as far back as 1430, the company was not registered until 1875. In 1883 the House of Valdespino became a purveyor of Sherry to the Royal House of Spain and in 1932, they also became purveyors of Sherry to the Royal House of Sweden.
