This combination creates the deliciously refreshing White Zinfandel that we all know and love today. The wine is off-dry wine and refreshing with delicate flavors of strawberries and sweet ripe melon. Producer Information Sutter Home is a California wine producer located in the St. Helena subregion of Napa Valley. It is credited with creating the original White Zinfandel in the 1970s. The winery is one of the larges estates in the United States in terms of annual total production. It has been owned by the Trinchero group since 1948 of which also includes Menage à Trois, Joel Gott, Trinchero Napa Valley and Napa Cellars within its holdings. Although its current history begins after Prohibition, Sutter Home's wine productiono dates back to 1874 when John Thomann established a winery, distillery, and Victorian house at the St. Helena estate. The property was sold to the Leunbergers who renamed the winery Sutter Home, yet production stopped due to Prohibition in the 1920s and the site was left abandoned. Trincheros purchased and renovated the property the property in 1948. The Sutter Home wine portfolio is designed to be approachable with affordable, quality wines that are suited to a broad range of consumers. There is a large range of wines from over 20 different grape varieties that are sourced from multiple sub-regions of California's wine country. The latest innovation from the brand is a line of sweet wines that are infused with fruit juice. Flavors include wild berry, sweet peach and tropical pineapple.

Only 125 km from the African coastline, conditions here are extreme. The porous, black volcanic soils have extremely high drainage, lowering the water content of soils that are only nourished by a few inches of rain per year. The winds that blow from the Sahara desert and Atlantic Ocean are so fierce that each vine is planted in small holes or hoyos, and further protected with stone walls. The hoyos also allow the vines to more quickly reach the organic matter located beneath the top layer of solidified lava. Virtually no vegetation can survive such inhospitable soil; the region is more reminiscent of a lunar landscape than the lush traditional image of a vineyard. The company owns vineyards across Napa, notably in Stags Leap, Oak Knoll, Rutherford and Oakville. The estate was established in 1973 with a first release of three wines. Joseph Phelps was running a construction company in Colorado and had come to Napa for a project and had fallen in love with the wine industry there. After importing grapes back to Denver for vinification for a time, he bought a cattle ranch in the valley and began planting vineyards. Joseph Phelps' flagship wine is Insignia, which made its debut in 1974. This is a blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of other Bordeaux varieties. Phelps' aim was to move away from varietal labeling and create a wine that could be different every year, depending on what the vintage called for. Outside of Insignia, Joseph Phelps makes a large portfolio of wines. Fruit for these is sourced both from estate vineyards and partner growers.
