Characteristic bouquet with notes of dried fruits and vanilla spices, and a hint of exotic woods. Medium rich palate is balanced and delicate, with a long finish of tea, dry leaves, spices and brandy. Producer Information Blandy’s Madeira was founded by John Blandy in 1811 and is well-known for producing quality Madeira, a fortified wine, from Portugal’s island of the same name, several hundred kilometers west off the northwest coast of Africa. The Blandy family is one of the original founding families of the Maderia wine trade and is the only family to still own and operate their original wine company on the island of Maderia. The recent history of Madeira and that of Blandy’s are closely aligned, enjoying the growth associated with an island on a major sea lane in the 19th Century. However, by 1925, the export market for Madeira experienced an all time low, requiring wine companies to come together under the Madeira Wine Association. The Blandy family headed the association and was able to stay in business while many individual Madeira companies ceased to exist. Madeira lacked the popularity it once had so in order to expand the global market, the Blandy’s offered the Symington family (Port producers since the 19th Century) a partnership in the newly named Madeira Wine Company in 1989. Together, these families have greatly expand the distribution network and marketing of the company's premier Madeira brands including Blandy's, Leacock's, Miles, and Cossart Gordon. Blandy’s produces many styles and quality levels of Madeira but is best known for its traditional, top quality, dated Madeiras capable of aging over 150 years. These Madeiras are produced from a single vintage and grape variety, and are categorized as either Vintage or Colheita dependant on wine character. Blandy’s was the first in Madeira to produce a youthful, vintage dated Madeira for early consumption with their 1994 Malmsey and created another new category for Madeira in 2002 with the introduction of “Blandy’s Alvada” – a blend of Malmsey and Bual. Blandy’s produces Madeira from all the principal grape...

Pulpy substance driven by a movingly balanced acidity, an apple juice. Dry finish, incredibly fine yellow color. Amazingly beautiful. Fizzy and refreshing. Definitely worth tasting! Producer Information Marie-Noëlle Ledru is a rare breed of female vigneron – she calls herself a ‘viticultrice’. As a civil servant, she inherited the property from her parents who retired in 1984. Her philosophy is virtually organic, using no insecticides and no herbicides, and if treatments are necessary, only environment friendly options are considered. Until recently the Ledru estate was 6 hectares in size but family disputes have resulted in her vineyards being reduced to a 2.5 hectares. 2ha Pinot in Ambonnay and .5ha Chardonnay in Bouzy. The wines are all classically vinified in tank with no oak maturation and malo-lactic fermentations occur. Yields are low, chaptalization is avoided, no filtration, no cold stabilisation, dosages are all low and minimal amounts of sulphur are used during the appropriate wine making processes. Bottles are disgorged by hand. The entire wine making process is manual and labour intensive – and the results speak loud. The Ledru style focuses on purity, complexity, power and yet all of this is enclosed in an elegant framework. The novice may think that oak is utilised somewhere in the wine making process, but you would be wrong. Precisely manicured and maintained vineyards are the key. “Great wines start in the vineyard” – and Marie-Noëlle is the perfect example. Now she produces tiny quantities of great Champagne, not taking on any new customers and rationing out what she has to loyal existing customers.

It farms a little more than 10 hectares (24 acres) of vineyards with fewer than 1000 cases produced annually from each plot, with some variation depending on the vintage. In the winery, the domaine practices a number of minimalist winemaking techniques. All the fruit is hand-harvested, wild yeasts are used for fermentation and carbonic maceration is kept at low temperatures. Aging often takes place in used Burgundy oak barrels but depending on the vintage and the cuvée, cement vats and used wooden foudres can be employed. Reviews: Wine Advocate: This mid-slope parcel covering less than one hectare was planted in 1960 in Oger. It produces wines that are full and generous, as evidenced by its aromas of butter and pastry, but there are also scents of spices and ripe white fruit. On the palate, it is round, suave, even mouthfilling, before leaving a more mineral-infused and taut impression on the finish that reveals as well notes of menthol and fresh fruit. James Suckling: Richly spiced, with ground anise, clove, ginger and cardamom, this offers a lively bead, fresh acidity and flavors of quince, honey, pastry dough and golden raisin. Offers a soft, creamy finish. Producer Information Domaine Franck Bonville has around 15 hectares of vines in 77 parcels of vines spread across three Grand Cru Côte des Blancs villages, Avize, Oger and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. The origins of the domaine go back to Alfred Bonville, who from around 1900 bought up parcels of land in the years following phylloxera, always within reach by horse of his home in Oger. Despite the wars he continued to invest after the birth of his son Franck, and in 1937 they bought a house in Avize complete with press and barrel cellar. From the end of the war, Franck began to sell Champagnes under his own name. Franck's son Gilles and his wife Ingrid continued the work, replacing the old casks with stainless steel for a more precise vinification. Their son Olivier trained as an oenologist and joined the domaine in 1996 after working in Germany and Corsica. Olivier has focused his attention on sustainable viticulture and purity of expression, so that the wines offer 'the aromatic complexity and elegance of Chardonnay', as well as 'the authenticity of the Cote des Blancs terroir and the minerality of the chalky sub-soil'. All the wines go through malolactic fermentation, and apart from the barrel-aged Belles-Voyes cuvée, all are made in stainless steel.

I find this slightly high-toned wine quite suave for its vintage. The serious but fine-grained tannins arrive late and build with air. This cuvée is typically the highest in pH in this cellar but not in 2015; in fact, at 3.49 it's quite reasonable in the context of this very warm year. Allen Meadows: Firm reduction. I very much like the rich and velvety mouth feel of the extract-rich medium weight plus flavors that are shaped by notably firm but not hard tannins on the powerful, serious and mocha-inflected finish. This is very ripe but it manages to avoid the youthful austerity that is so typical of young Clos de Vougeot. At last moderate patience required. Producer Information Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. The domaine has 8 hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations, including plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Its focus is on red wines made from Pinot Noir. The domaine began with the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, bringing together the vineyards of two different families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, and the domaine has expanded as well, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites. The viticultural portfolio is now approximately 95-percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. In the winery, grapes are destalked prior to a short period of cold maceration. Fermentation is done in both stainless steel and oak before being placed immediately into barrels for ageing. The wines see varying levels of French oak, depending on their status, with the grand crus getting a higher proportion of new oak. Wines are bottled without any fining or filtering.

Producer: Domaine du Clos de Tart Vintage: 2020 Size: 750ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: France, Clos de Tart Delicate and impressive depth on the nose. The finish is quite unique, rich and long-lasting. Distillery Information Clos de Tart is a highly esteemed domaine based on a single grand cru monopole vineyard in the commune of Morey-Saint-Denis, in the Côte de Nuits subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or. The estate produces two wines, both from Pinot Noir. Clos de Tart's history dates back to a 12th Century abbey constructed by Cistercian nuns of the Notre Dame de Tart order. The vineyard has remained a monopole ever since. In 2017 the domaine was bought by French billionaire François Pinault for a figure thought to be in excess of €225 million ($260 million). Pinault's investment group, Artemis, owns a host of high-profile domaines across France, including Château Grillet in Château Grillet (Condrieu) and Château Latour in Pauillac, Bordeaux, as well as Araujo Estate in California's Napa Valley. The property was previously owned by the Mommessin family, who purchased the estate in 1932. The family sold its négociant business (and name) to Jean-Claude Boisset, of the major Burgundy wine family, although the Mommessin family retained Clos de Tart until its sale to Pinault.

There is better mid-palate density to the broad-shouldered and powerful flavors that possess excellent depth and persistence on the balanced and youthfully austere finish where a hint of wood resurfaces. Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: A subtle but toasty note of oak mixes with red cherry on this wine's nose. The same aromatics appear on the toned palate but the cherry with its juicy freshness has the upper hand. Fine tannins provide a firm, smooth backdrop for the mouthwatering fruit and the nuanced aromas. James Suckling: Flashy, this red offers flamboyant oak and exotic Asian spice aromas and flavors draped over ripe cherry and plum fruit. It's harmonious and there are no edges, so give this time to integrate more fully. Shows terrific length. Producer Information Château de La Tour is a wine producer and building located within the walls of the famed Clos de Vougeot in the Vougeot appellation of Burgundy's Côte de Nuits subregion. It is the largest landholder in the famously fragmented Pinot Noir clos, owning nearly 11 percent of the land therein. It is also the only other major building – aside from the famous Château du Clos de Vougeot – within the walls. The estate's holdings total just under 5.5 hectares (13 acres) in plots on the middle and upper slopes of the clos. Château de la Tour's best parcel is planted to vines that are more than 100 years old, and are the source for the Cuvée Vieilles Vignes as well as the Cuvée Hommage Jean Morin wines – the latter named after owner François Labet's grandfather. The château itself was built in 1890, and today serves as the winery for both Chateau de la Tour and Domaine Pierre Labet wines. The grapes are whole-bunch fermented and then matured in French oak barrels for 16-18 months. The proportion of new oak depends on the cuvée – 50 percent for the regular Clos Vougeot cuvée and 100 percent for the Vieilles Vignes and Cuvée Hommage Jean Morin wines. Château de La Tour's top cuvée, Hommage Jean Morin, is produced only in exceptional vintages from the estate's oldest vines, and only from the first bunch on the first shoot of each vine. It was first produced in 2010 and is made in tiny...

Producer: Domaine de Bargylus Vintage: 2015 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Red Blend Country/Region: Syria With its deep, ruby-red color and complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and a hint of spice, this wine is sure to tantalize your taste buds. The palate is equally impressive, with rich flavors of dark fruit, vanilla, and a touch of oak. The tannins are firm but smooth, providing a long and satisfying finish. Producer Information Domaine de Bargylus operates within the heart of war-torn Syria, on the steep mountain slopes of the coastal mountain range known as Mount Bargylus. These mountains produced notable wines up until the rise of Isalm, and today, it's the home of Syria's sole surviving commercial winery. Syrian-Lebanese brothers Karim and Sandro Saadé set up Domaine de Bargylus in 2003 and produced their first vintage in 2006. Although the brothers, along with their father Johnny, initially aspired to set up a winery and vineyard in France, they couldn't ignore their family's connection with their home countries. The Saadé family are originally Orthodox Christians from Latakia, a northwest Syrian port city, but they are now Syrian-Lebanese and live in Beirut. The family also owns another winery in Lebanon's Beqaa valley, Château Marsyas, set up by the brothers' father Johnny Saadé. While Lebanon has a small but well-respected wine culture, Syria's was non-existent. Ancient Romans grew vines in the area thousands of years ago, but that was the last existence of a proper vineyard in the country. This meant that everyone involved in setting up the winery was starting from scratch without any previous experience in winemaking – from Karim and Sandro themselves, to all the Syrian workers they hired. Despite these challenges, the first vines were planted in 2003, they produced their first vintage in 2006, and continued producing wines for the next few years (with every vintage tasting better than the last) until 2011.

Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Champagne Pascal Agrapart (formerly Agrapart & Fils) is a critically well-regarded and sought-after Champagne producer based in Avizé, in Champagne's Côte des Blancs subregion, just south of Épernay. It was founded by Arthur Agrapart in 1894, and extended by his grandson Pierre in the 1950s and 1960s. It is currently run by the fourth generation Pascal Agrapart as a récoltant-manipulant (RM) house, meaning it grows its own grapes – mostly Chardonnay – on 12 hectares (20 acres) of chalky soils in the Côte des Blancs. Pascal has recently been joined at the estate by his eldest son, Amboise. The Agrapart vineyards are plowed and treated with homemade composts. In the winery, grapes are fermented with wild yeasts and the base wines undergo a long aging on lees in oak barrels before the second fermentation adds the sparkle. The house is particularly associated with Chardonnay-based Champagne – of the six cuvées produced, four are Blanc de Blancs.

Only when vintage 1995 was released did the then and current owner Delphine manage to have this plot approved as one of the 21 official Clos in Champagne. Impressively persistent finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: More brooding and reserved than the Échézeaux that preceded it in the tasting, the 2017 Grands Échézeaux Grand Cru unwinds in the glass with an enticing bouquet of cassis, blackberries, blood orange, exotic spices and musk. On the palate, it's full-bodied, ample and fleshy, with a more introverted, structured profile than the Échézeaux, its considerable reserves of concentrated fruit framed by an abundance of powdery tannin and succulent acids. Long and penetrating, this will reward sustained bottle age. The Grands Échézeaux was picked on September 12. Decanter: Showing more colour as well as more weight and intensity than the Échézeaux, as it often does, this is also a much more complete, harmonious wine with more flesh on its bones. Stony, stemmy and peppery, it handles its 100% whole bunches with style. A hint of good reduction and leafy, autumnal, forest floor aromatics segue into a palate that has fine-grained new oak, refreshing minerality and sweet, beguiling, wild strawberry fruit. Producer Information Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy's best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-Romanée, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the Côte d'Or.
