The Parusso Barolo Bussia Riserva presents itself with an intense and complex bouquet with aromas of strawberries, prunes and rose petals. On the palate, the wine is complex and elegant with expansive fruit and fine, silky, noble tannins. Definitely worth tasting! Reviews: Wine Advocate: Made only in the best vintages, the Parusso 2012 Barolo Riserva Bussia Oro was tasted from magnum. Exactly 1,160 bottles and only 108 magnums were released. This is a sunny and darkly concentrated Barolo that reflects the happy exuberance of the warm vintage. The fruit is quite rich, but it spans a large spectrum, with ripe plum on the one hand and tart cherry fruit on the other. There are additional notes of forest bramble, crushed flowers, tar, smoke and campfire ash. James Suckling: Extremely floral and high-toned, with lightly dried fruit to the ripe-strawberry and toffee aromas, following through to a medium body with firm, fine tannins and berry, chocolate and light hazelnut undertones. It's long and linear. Producer Information Winemaker Marco Parusso was overwhelmed with emotion when he discovered an old document at his family’s estate in Barolo. Dated 1901, the crumbling contract, signed by his grandfather, Gaspare Parusso, was evidence of his purchase of a parcel of land called “Mariondino” – the small vineyard where he first planted Nebbiolo, and where the Parusso story begins. As a humble agrarian, Gaspare began selling his grapes to friends and local cooperatives and added a farmhouse to the estate in 1925 (which still stands today) overlooking the rolling Rocche vineyard. It wasn’t until 1971 that Armando, Gaspare’s son, saw even greater potential in this small piece of land, and began the adventure of crafting his own wines under his own family label. Without fully realizing it, Armando had slowly begun to transform the family from farmers to vintners. He bought property in Bussia and Mosconi in order to expand production, working closely with young Marco, who became fascinated with winemaking at an early age....

Iodine and mushroom notes come through. Producer Information Castello Banfi was founded in Tuscany in 1978 by Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani. It had its origins in their father's business, Banfi Vintners, which was founded in 1919 and was America's leading Italian wine importer at the time. Today, Castello Banfi has vineyards throughout the northwest coast of Italy, from Piedmont, to Chianti Classico, Bolgheri and Montalcino. The estate encompasses 2870 hectares (7100 acres) of land, with about a third under vine. Banfi produces wines from international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, as well as indigenous Italian grapes such as Sangiovese, Vermentino and Dolcetto. The majority of these wines see some time aging in oak – anywhere from a few months to 30 months for the estate's Brunello de Montalcino. The portfolio of Castello Banfi is broad, covering slighty effervescent Cortese de Gavi from Piedmont, to muscular and bold Super Tuscans made from Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blends in Montalcino.

Producer: Prunotto Vintage: 1982 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Nebbiolo Country/Region: Italy, Piedmont The 1982 vintage in Piedmont was very warm and generally produced extremely good wines with an opulent fruit character and excellent balance. Producer Information Prunotto is a wine producer based in Langhe, in northern Italy. It makes a range of wines from some of the region's most famous DOC and DOCG appellations, including Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera d'Alba and Moscato d'Asti. The estate has its origins in 1923 when Alfredo Prunotto acquired a cooperative winery in Alba called Ai Vini delle Langhe. Prunotto did not initially own any of his own vineyards – he purchased and vinified grapes from around Piedmont instead. Now, the Prunotto estate consists of 65 hectares (160 acres) of estate vineyards, including land in several of the Barolo crus, the most famous of which is Vigna Colonnello in the Bussia sub-region. This vineyard, located in a natural amphitheater with mixed soils of clay, tufa and sand, is perfect for the Nebbiolo grapes that grow here. The single-vineyard wine produced from here is Prunello's flagship. Grapes are all hand-harvested prior to maceration and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aging times and casks depend on grape variety and vintage, with the top wines like the Prunotto Bussia Vigna Colonnello aged for up to 24 months in large oak barrels. This particular wine then has 12 months in stainless steel and an additional 30 months in bottle. Bottle-aging is particularly important at Prunotto – all of the wines are released only when they are deemed ready to drink. Prunotto's white wines – a Roero Arneis and a Moscato d'Asti – are made in a fresh style, fermented and aged in stainless steel before release.

Pure nose offering sour cherry, red berries, some balsamic notes and tobacco. Medium weight, a classic fresh style with crushed red berries, and a herba spiciness, digest and pure fruit with fine length. Producer Information Castello di Montepò is a Tuscan wine estate in the Scansano district of the inland Maremma Toscana region. It was founded in the 1990s by Jacopo Biondi Santi of the famous Montalcino family. The winery is housed in the imposing Montepò castle – a single fortress building dating back to the 12th Century and set on a rocky outcrop surrounded by woods and vines. The Scansano region is well protected by surrounding hills and the mesoclimate is dry with cooling breezes. The wider Montepò estate covers around 600 hectares (1500 acres) although only around 55 hectares (140 acres) are planted to vines. The vineyards are predominantly planted on schist subsoils, but the exposure and altitude of the plots do vary. The Castello di Montepò portfolio is led by a group of Toscana IGT wines. Sassoalloro, named after the boulders that are a feature of the local landcape, is 100 percent Sangiovese Grosso (from Brunello Biondi Santi clones), and in some years a special edition Oro version is released. Montepaone is a straight Cabernet Sauvignon, while Schidione is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. In some years, Montepò also makes a premium varietal Merlot called Morione. Finally, the estate also makes standard and Riserva Morellino di Scansano wines. In contrast to the Biondi Santi Brunello di Montalcino estate, where large Slavonian oak casks are used for maturing wines, the wines here are aged in French oak barrels.
