Producer Information In 1962, at the age of thirty-two, Pierre Lafond founded the fi rst post-prohibition commercial winery in Santa Barbara County. Two years later, he located a winery facility on Anacapa Street, just two blocks from the Pacific Ocean.Santa Barbara Winery has become an extremely visible and successful wine concern, winning many medals for an array of wines. Lafond is now in the midst of a signifi cant expansion in order to meet the desires of the consuming public. Initially Lafond used grapes from outside the county, notably zinfandel from Bill York's vineyards in Templeton. York Winery, later York Mountain Winery, had its own historic allure: it was the oldest winery in San Luis Obispo County, and it had vinified grapes for the famous Polish statesman and virtuoso pianist Ignace Paderewski.Santa Barbara Winery is currently building a new facility at its vineyard on Santa Rosa Road that will more than double the winery's total production, from a current 20,000 to 44,000 cases. The additional 24,000 cases will be pinot noir and syrah, with the Santa Barbara facility being reserved for white wine production.

Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: There's a focused streak of rocky minerality on the nose of this bottling along with lime-blossom, lemon-balm and apple-rind aromas. The palate is very citrus-driven, showing lime and grapefruit pith, and then floral waves of jasmine and plumeria take over, leading to a coconut finish. Producer Information In 1962, Pierre Lafond re-established Santa Barbara County's winemaking tradition by founding Santa Barbara Winery. The winery was the first since prohibition and is part of an association that has grown to 40 wineries located in Santa Barbara County. In the early years, Pierre made wine from purchased fruit, but soon realized the potential for premium wine made from Santa Barbara County grapes. In 1971, he purchased land in the western Santa Ynez Valley and began planting what is now a 95 acre vineyard. Today, annual production is around 32,000 cases. Bruce McGuire was working as a winemaker in the Sacramento Delta in 1981 when Pierre Lafond invited him to take over the winemaking operation at Santa Barbara Winery. Since then, the winery has produced world class red and white wines. Bruce's winemaking philosophy begins in the vineyard. Nielson Wines continues in Uriel’s pioneering spirit, crafting ambitious wines that embody the freshness and vibrancy of the cool, coastal Southern California enclave. Each vintage, Winemaker Ryan Pace produces Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from some of the region’s most celebrated vineyard sites, with the original Nielson Vineyard serving as the backbone in most of the wines. In the cellar, Ryan prefers to utilize small-lot winemaking techniques to showcase the nuances and character of each wine, such as hand pruning, block-by-block harvesting, barrel fermentations and lees stirring. These precise winemaking and vineyard practices are combined to create complex wines that embody the culture, lifestyle and flavor of Santa Barbara County.

Producer Information Siduri Winery is a Californian wine producer with a focus on cool-climate Pinot Noir wines. It is named after the Babylonian Goddess Siduri - a female divinity associated with fermentation, in particular of wine and beer. The winery was founded by Texans Adam Lee and Dianna Novy. After several years of working in small, family-owned wineries in California, the pair released the estate's first wine in 1994. Today, Siduri partners with twenty different vineyards that it has long term relationships with, making a range of varietal single-vineyard wines. Pinot Noir grapes are sourced from some of the West Coast's most well-known AVAs, including Sonoma County, Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands and Santa Rita Hills. In 2019, the Siduri portfolio included a Chardonnnay sourced from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. In the winery, vineyard blocks and clones are vinified separately in order to maintain control of blending and emphasize the specific nuances of each terroir. Wines are primarily bottled unfiltered and unfined with the principle of minimal intervention applied throughout the entire winemaking process. Siduri Winery has been under the ownership of Jackson Family Wines since 2012.

Grapes are sourced from vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley, Russian River Valley, Carneros and Napa Valley. The name comes from searching for the best rows from the best blocks from the best vineyards. Row Eleven is a unique Multi-Alternating Proprietor or MAP that utilizes several winery facilities, each specializing in a particular variety, in contrast to having one central facility to process grapes. The finest vineyards are then linked to these specialized wineries. Reyes crushes only the best rows, uses whole berries and ferments 10° cooler than most other winemakers. His style is fruit-forward. Bottlings of Row Eleven Pinot Noir vary depending on source but include appellation (Santa Maria Valley and Russian River Valley), a California appellation bottling (Vinas 3), and vineyard-designated (Dutton-Sanchietti) offerings. An opaque purple color is followed by gorgeous aromas of white flowers, minerals, black raspberries, cherries, and toast. It is slightly tight (from high tannin), and boasts layers of flavor, astonishing purity as well as fruit intensity, and a finish that lasts for nearly a minute. Producer Information Occidental Winery is a brand of Pinot Noir wines, produced by Steve Kistler in the Sonoma Coast subregion of California. It was founded in 2011 by Steve Kistler, the founder and previous winemaker of the cult-status Kistler Vineyards for 37 years. The current portfolio is composed of five single-vineyard bottlings. In the winery, each plot is kept seperate throughout the fermentation process with higher portions of whole clusters kept when the incidence of millerandage is high. The temperature of the cellar initiates fermentation with wild yeasts from the vineyard and winery. The wines are bottled unfiltered and unfined with minimal additions of sulfur dioxide. The Occidental vineyards are found within proximity of Bodega where headlands and ridges channel wind and fog from the coastline into the vineyards. This maritime influence keeps airflow moving through the canopy to create unfavourable conditions for mildew diseases. It also keep temperatures moderate throughout the growing season and limits fruit set. This creates low yields of premium grapes with concentrated flavor compounds.

Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: This is a creamy, lush and layered white that offers a depth of fruitforward intensity. Peach, melon, dried herb and a hint of ginger combine on the broad palate. Producer Information Chalk Hill Vineyards & Winery is located in the Chalk Hill AVA in Sonoma, in the northeast corner of the Russian River Valley. It is best known for its Bordeaux blend red wines, and its white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The winery was founded in 1972, when Fred Furth, a flamboyant, cigar-smoking attorney, spotted the land's potential from a passing plane. The vineyard covers 113 hectares (280 acres) of the entire estate, and is shaped like an amphitheater. The lower, cooler sites are suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, while the warmer south-facing slopes are better for red Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. All of Chalk Hill's wines are bottled and produced on site. Chardonnay makes up a major part of the portfolio, sourced from distinct blocks on the estate, and aged for a significant period in new French oak. Chalk Hill also makes an estate Chardonnay with a less-expensive aging regime. Beyond Chardonnay, the portfolio includes a range of other white wines including those made from Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Viognier. In addition to the white wines, Chalk Hill makes a range of varietal and blended red wines from Pinot Noir, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. The business was acquired by billionaire and owner of numerous estates in the US and New Zealand, Bill Foley in 2010. Furth died in 2018 at the age of 84.
