Producer: Bernard Van Berg Vintage: 2012 Size: 750ml Varietal: Aligote Country/Region: France, Burgundy Delicate and impressive depth on the nose. A very pleasant, rich and smooth taste in the mouth. Lovely texture. Great elegance and length on the finish. Producer Information The Bernard Van Berg estate is one of these legends of Burgundy even though it only has two small hectares. The latter are not located on any appellation since, freeing themselves from the geography of the terroirs, he only intends to produce great ordinary Burgundies, known as BGO. This being an appellation now extinct which included all the wines of the region without grade. It is therefore within this classification that Bernard Van Berg produces, in his estate located in Meursault, some of the most exciting wines in all of Burgundy. These wines are great, worked in the old way, without any recourse to chemistry. The vines are led there in stakes, and it is said of the winegrower that he knows each of his feet. Talented, he exercises his profession with passion and raises these seemingly simple wines with luxury. We recommend that you do not wait to savor them to their full extent.

Producer: Domaine Bernard-Bonin Vintage: 2020 Size: 750ml ABV: 12.5% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: France, Burgundy Producer Information Since 1998, Domaine Bernard-Bonin has been run impeccably by Nicolas Bernard and Veronique Bonin, a daughter of the well-known Michelot family. The talented couple own and cultivate seven hectares, including vineyards in Meursault, Meursault 1er Cru, and Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru. Nicolas follows time-honored winegrowing traditions; hand-harvesting, respecting the phases of the moon, and employing minimal intervention in the cellar. Each wine expresses a personality derived from its terroir, its character fashioned by the climatic variances of the year, with the premier cru vineyards harvested last. The wines are aged in oak barrels for 15–18 months. During this time, each barrel is tasted individually to determine the optimum exchange between wine and lees, with no sulfur additions, only active CO2 to protect the wine in the barrel. The lees are stirred at the beginning stages of malolactic fermentation, which keeps the lees in suspension, and the wine reaches approximately 3g/L of residual sugar. There is no racking of the wines during élevage, and only one racking before going into tank in December for four months before bottling in March. Once the lees settle entirely, there is no more bâtonnage after April/May. In synchronization with the lunar calendar, the wines are racked just before bottling to ensure a natural crystal clear and stable state, thus avoiding fining and filtration. The long barrel aging process allows for fully dry wines below 1g/L r.s. The wines continue to mature in the bottle, and the results carry the characteristics of the finest wines of Meursault: exquisitely fresh, rich, mineral, and vibrant.

On the palate, a creamy texture which extends into a persistent length. Terroir and finesse, power and velvet. Producer Information The Gripa family has a multi-generational history in the village and their family winemaking traditions still remain key to the operations of the Domaine today. Fabrice Gripa, current custodian, looks after the Domaine with the help of his father Bernard Gripa. All year long, Fabrice and his determined team, undertake every task in the vineyard by hand, as no machine is capable of accessing the steep and challenging terrain of the vineyards. Adding to the workload is Fabrice’s exclusive use of organic agricultural methods. The Domaine is composed of sixteen hectares of vineyard – half white wines and half red wines – a unique combination within the village. Sixteen hectares are owned by the Gripas, with 3.5 hectares under the appellation of Saint-Péray – a truly rare white producing appellation, amongst a sea of neighbouring reds. Domaine Gripa’s Saint-Péray wines, both cuvées, are made from Marsanne and Roussanne, and create a marvellous still white wine. The rest of the Domaine is planted under the Saint-Joseph appellation, with a few different cuvées highlighting and celebrating the different terroirs*. The Saint Joseph vineyards of Syrah, Marsanne and Roussanne are planted on complex granite soils and the Saint-Péray on clay and limestone. Even more unique, the Domaine’s vineyards average 65 years of age, with some vineyards over 80 years old – a rarity and treasure. Domaine Gripa’s wines are all made traditionally and masterfully express their origin. The four cuvées of Saint Joseph and the two cuvées of Saint-Péray undergo their maturation in French oak barrels of different sizes and age to slow down the ferocity of their natural acid and tannic complexity. Two cuvées of Saint-Joseph white and red called “Berceau” are made from the oldest vineyards, in the best climats* of the Domaine. These can be aged for up to an astonishing 15 years! This longevity is a signature of the finest French wines.

Delicate texture; layered flavours linger on the palate. Producer Information Northwest of Barcelona, in the Anoia Valley countryside, surrounded by the Sierra of Montserrat Mountains, is a distinguished family vineyard dating back five hundred years, where some of the finest, most innovative and most inspiring Spanish wines have been cultivated: the Raventós estate. Manuel Raventós, 20th generation winemaker in this area, created in 1986 the first estate-bottled and estate-produced sparkling wine in Spain with the first vintage of Raventós i Blanc. An estate where since 1497 the same family has been working– probably one of the longest-documented viticultural family traditions in the world. Manuel’s personal selections of the best wines from each vintage were the beginning of his series of Manuel Raventós Personal Oenotheque 1986, 1998, 1999, 2000… Following his father and his grandfather’s dream, Pepe Raventós, the 21st generation, joined Raventós i Blanc with the aim to pursue excellence in every detail of the winery. Pepe’s own spirit of innovation and perfectionism inspired him to create a world-class sparkling wine unlike any other- one made distinct by its minerality. Having worked with world-renowned winemakers Pepe realized in 2005 that a small portion of the family vineyard, Clos del Serral, was ideally suited to create an exceptional sparkling wine. With this special opportunity, Pepe sought to make the most of it, working this plot as a most precious garden. Bringing back together man, earth, and animal, Pepe returned to the origins of vinification with a contemporary vision. The result is Mas del Serral, a premium sparkling wine prepared to claim its place alongside the world’s finest champagnes. In 1872 the Raventós family brought Champagne to Spain. Today, Pepe Raventós is bringing Mas del Serral back to the world.

On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and concentrated, with lively acids, rich structuring tannins and a long, penetrating finish. Reviews: Vinous: The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles 1er Cru is one of the lowest-producing vineyards, yielding just 20hl/ha due to the age of the vines and shallow soils. The very pure bouquet features ebullient red cherry and raspberry fruit and fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, and quite succulent, with a sorbet-like richness and vibrancy on the finish. This is very well crafted and should age with style. Excellent. Burghound: The higher elevation of the vineyard shows as the expressive and airy nose is even fresher with its array of spiced plum, violet, lavender and wild dark berries. The super-sleek, intense and beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors brim with minerality that adds a touch of vibrancy to the dusty, youthfully austere and bitter cherry-inflected finale. Lovely and understated in style. Producer Information Domaine Dugat-Py is a wine producer in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. It is best known for its red wines made from Pinot Noir in grand cru vineyards such as Charmes-Chambertin and Chambertin. It also makes a range of premier cru wines, and a grand cru Chardonnay from the Corton-Charlemagne vineyard. The domaine was created through the marriage of Bernard Dugat and Jocelyne Py in 1979, bringing together two sets of vineyards. Dugat-Py owns plots in several of the Gevrey-Chambertin grand cru vineyards, and also makes village-level and premier cru wines from plots in Vosne-Romanée, Pommard and Chassagne-Montrachet. Domaine Dugat-Py's wines are aged for up to 24 months in oak, in cellars which date back to the 11th Century. Producer: Domaine Lucie et Auguste Lignier Vintage: 2010 Size: 1.5L ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: France, Burgundy This wine shows terrific balance and harmony. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information After studying in a wine school in Beaune, Kellen made her first vintage 2006. Most of us would expect a young, inexperienced winemaker originally from New Mexico (who has drunk more beer and tequila than wine until she moved to Burgundy) with two small children would struggle making good wines. Her first vintage proved many of us wrong. The wines are charming and attractive, I am sure Romain would be proud of her wines. Even though Domaine L&A Lignier produced their first vintage in 2006, they had bottled 2001-2005 vintages from inheritance, of which 2001-2003 were vinified by Romain Lignier, 2004 and 2005 were presumably made by Hubert and Laurent Lignier. The L&A Lignier wines from 2001-2005 are exactly the same as Hubert Lignier 2001-2005, but sells at a considerably lower price as L&A Lignier is less-known. Sadly Kellen went back to the States in 2013 after she lost more vineyards to Hubert. Many L&A Lignier wines including her two Grand Crus (Clos de la Roche and Charmes Chambertin) last vintage was 2010. Kellen still holds a few vineyards, so time will tell if she would ever go back to Burgundy and make wines again. I recommend the wines from L&A Lignier, lovely fruit intensity and tidiness on the palate. Other than that, they are considerably cheaper than Hubert Lignier bottling.

A cellar was completed in 1973 and the name "La Janasse" was chosen from a local regional name in Courthézon to the north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where the family farm was located. In 1991 Aimé's son Christophe joined the estate, followed by his daughter Isabelle in 2001. Domaine de la Janasse began with 15 hectares (37 acres) of estate vineyards and now has more than 90 hectares (220 acres), with 15 hectares (37 acres) in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The winery makes a number of wines including red and white Côtes du Rhone, and a number of IGP wines, but the flagship wines have always been the Châteauneuf-du-Pape reds. Current owners, the Maret family, trace their association with the property back to 1912, when Eugene Maret bought the estate as a gift for his wife. Michel Maret, who took over in 1973, gave the domaine its current name, reflecting its location an area formerly used for charcoal burning. His daughter Véronique Maret assumed full control of winemaking in 2012. The estate farms 19 hectares (47 acres) of small but well-sited vineyard parcels scattered throughout Châteauneuf-du-Pape. There are also nearly six hectares (14 acres) in Vacqueyras and two hectares (five acres) of vines in the Côtes du Rhône and IGP vineyard zones. Since 2015, all of Domaine de la Charbonnière's wines have been certified organic. There are several different red Châteaneuf-du-Pape cuvées in the portfolio. The standard release combines 70 percent Grenache with equal parts of Syrah and Mourvèdre. Charbonnière makes around 4000 cases of this wine a year, which makes up the bulk of the domaine's Châteauneuf-du-Pape production. Other labels include Mourre des Perdrix (combining Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah with some Cinsault) which comes from a specific lieu-dit within Châteauneuf-du-Pape; while Hautes Brusquières is a 60:40 combination of Grenache and Syrah – sometimes with a dash of Counoise – from the Brusquières plateau. The domaine also produces a Vieilles Vignes label – a Grenache-dominated blend with a small amount of Mourvèdre, primarily from the La Crau vineyard site. Finally, l'Envol is a Mourvèdre-based blend. Only a few hundred cases a year are made of each of these cuvées. Domaine de la Charbonnière makes a small amount of white Châteauneuf-du-Pape from a blend of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne and Clairette. The grapes are primarily fermented in stainless steel with a small portion in new wood. A single Vacqueyras release (generally around 60...

Producer: Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Ratings: WA 96 WS 94 Vintage: 2010 Size: 750ml ABV: 15% Varietal: Southern Rhone Red Blend Country/Region: France, Rhone The aroma profile includes pronounced floral notes, dark brambly fruit, hints of garrigue, and a touch of forest floor. On the palate, the wine unfolds with flavours of blackberries, dusty road, and a backdrop of cedar. The tannins are now perfectly integrated. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Trois Sources comes from the estate's vineyards planted in sandy soils. About 10,000 bottles have been produced. One of the great wines of the vintage, this unbelievable Chateauneuf is still extremely young and primary. Its opaque purple color is followed by scents of ink, acacia flowers, blueberries, black raspberries and blackberries. While full-bodied, extremely concentrated and massive, the wine is totally harmonious with beautifully integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol (which is no doubt in excess of 16%). Wine Spectator: A densely packed version, with notes of crushed plum, fig paste and blackberry preserves at the core, set against a backdrop of charcoal, ganache and singed anise. Still tightly wound, with a very grippy finish. The acidity is lively and well-embedded, so this should open nicely in the cellar. Producer Information Domaine de la Vieille Julienne is a Rhône Valley producer known for its Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The estate is based in Les Grès in the northern part of the appellation where it produces the common Rhône varieties Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Counoise and Cinsaut. The domaine was formed in 1905 and has been owned by the Daumen family ever since. It wasn't until the 1960s that Vieille Julienne began to bottle and release its own wines. It gained critical recognition and popularity in the 1990s after a focused effort to reduce yields. The Vieille Julienne Reserve Châteauneuf-du-Pape was first released in 1994 to critical acclaim, and has received 100-point scores from Robert Parker for several of its vintages. Vieille Julienne has 10 hectares (25 acres) under vine in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a further 5 hectares (12 acres) of Côtes du Rhône vineyards. Grenache is the most important variety, making up 60 percent of the flagship Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine, and the majority of all of the other red blends. The...

There is equally superb focus to the refined, delineated and lacy medium-bodied flavors that are shaped by dense but exceptionally fine tannins that are impeccably well-integrated on the energetic and explosive finish. Producer Information Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is a Burgundian wine producer based in Chambolle-Musigny. It is particularly well-known for its Musigny Grand Cru wine which is regarded as a benchmark for that vineyard. While the estate is most closely associated with Pinot Noir wines from Chambolle-Musigny, it has 10 hectares (25 acres) of vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges as well. The Château de Chambolle-Musigny has been owned by the Mugnier family since 1863. From 1950, as there was no winemaker in the family, the vineyards were contracted out to Faiveley and Bruno Clair, with the latter selling the wine in bulk. Between 1985 and 2004, Frédéric Mugnier was able to take back the vineyards as leases expired. On top of the Musigny Grand Cru, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier makes a wine from the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru vineyard, as well as two premier cru wines, Les Fuées and Les Amoureuses, and a village-level wine. From the Nuits-Saint-Georges holdings, Mugnier makes a Clos des Fourches premier cru wine, and a red and a white premier cru from the Clos de la Maréchale vineyard, which is a monopole of the domaine. Vineyards are farmed without herbicides or pesticides and just two mildew treatments per year. Grapes are de-stemmed and whole berries are fermented in old open wooden vats. After around 16 months in oak, wines are bottled without fining and filtration.

Producer: Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Vintage: 2010 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: France, Burgundy The wine offers up a stunning nose of black cherries, a touch of blood orange, plums, dark chocolate, a wonderfully complex soil signature, violets and vanillin oak. Producer Information Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is a French producer of high-quality Pinot Noir located in the Côte de Nuits, best known for wines made from the most sought-after vineyards in Burgundy. The domaine was created in 1933 after the marriage of André Mugneret to Jeanne Gibourg of the established Vosne-Romanée Gibourg family. Their son, Georges Mugneret, an ophthalmologist, extended his family's vineyard holdings by buying small plots of land in the 1950s. He began bottling these wines with his own label, Dr Georges Mugneret. The two domaines came together in 2009 under the name of Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The vines of Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg had been tended by sharecroppers and remained so even after the merger. Because of this a significant portion of the fruit does not go into Mugneret-Gibourg's wines. The vineyards, however, are some of the most famous and highly regarded in the region, located in esteemed communes such as Nuits-Saint-Georges, Gevery-Chambertin, and Flagey-Echezeaux. The domaine's most prized and expensive wines come from the the grand cru vineyards of Ruchottes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot and Echézeaux, and the premier cru vineyards Les Chaignots, Les Vignes Rondes and Les Feusselottes. Georges Mugneret-Gibourg is also known for high-quality and ageworthy village-level wines from Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the broadly classified Bourgogne Rouge, which commands an impressive $50 per bottle. Following George's death in 1988 the domaine has been run by his widow Jacqueline, and daughters Marie-Christine Teillaud and Marie-Andrée Nauleau.

Reviews: Wine Advocate: While the corresponding La Chapelle des Bois appeared from cask to have had an edge on Duperray’s 2010 Fleurie Les Moriers Tres Vieilles Vignes, from bottle this dramatically different wine – which he describes as “the nose of Fleurie with the palate of Moulin-a-Vent” – is no less impressive than its immediate sibling. Deeply concentrated plum and cherry fruit are allied to iodine-tinged saline, sweet shrimp shell reduction intimated already in the nose and serving for saliva gland-milking in an amazingly thrusting, gripping finish. White pepper and musky rose radish tweak the nostrils and re-emerge as an invigorating adjunct that encourages me to imagine that a profoundly intense Gruner Veltliner Smaragd had been blended-in. Nutmeg and toasted pecan complement the intense ripeness of fruit, which however never turns superficially sweet thanks in large part to its sheer freshness and to the aforementioned biting invigoration. Vinum Wine Magazine: Dark clear cherry red. Smoky fruit, brilliant and fresh, reminiscent of dark, ripe berries. Concentrated and quite distinctive on the palate, powerful but balanced and elegant in the fruit, with a firm structure and a bit (too?) biting tannin. Floral notes in the aftertaste. Still a year too young to enjoy, but compared to the striking Chapelle des bois, it is a more charming, feminine, delicate wine. Producer Information Domaine Jules Desjourneys is a wine estate in Southern Burgundy. It makes wines from appellations in the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions. Owner-winemaker Fabien Duperray was already a well-known Burgundy negociant representing some of the best known estates. In 2007 he purchased some old Gamay vineyards in Fleurie and Moulin-à-Vent. Shows good energy through the finish, with a cassis bush note echoing. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Deep garnet in color, the 2010 Les Forts de Latour seems just a little tired compared to the last time I tried it, offering a core of dried mulberries, fruitcake and Chinese five spice followed by scents of balsamic, woodsmoke and fragrant earth. Full-bodied, the palate has chewy, rugged tannins and evolved black fruits, finishing spicy. While still very delicious, I think this bottle may have been a bit oxidized, ergo the question mark after the score. James Suckling: Aromas of currants, blueberries and blackberries with a dark chocolate undertone. Perfumes and beautiful. Full body, with velvety tannins that are fine-tuned and tentative. It lasts for minutes. Gorgeous fruit and richness. Producer Information Château Latour is one of Bordeaux's – and the world's – most famous wine producers. It is situated in the southeast corner of the Pauillac commune on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region. Rated as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has become one of the most sought-after and expensive wine producers on the planet, and produces powerfully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines capable of lasting many decades. The Château Latour history, classified as Premier Grand Cru in the 1855 classification, started in the 14th century when they built a fortified tower during the One Hundred Years War. Until the end of the 16th century, Latour was a co-lordship whose co-owners received rent from farmers who cultivated lands, some of which were already dedicated to the culture of the vines. Then, in the 18th century, the winegrowing saga speeded up when the marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the “Prince of the vines”, also owner of Château Calon Ségur and Lafite, became the owner of the estate. Since 1993, François Pinault and the Artémis group have been the majority owner (93%) and 7% has belonged to the Ségur family’s heirs.

Great elegance and length on the finish. Producer Information Domaine de Montille is a Burgundy producer known for its Pinot Noir from highly regarded vineyards in Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The family has an extensive history in Burgundy, and the estate has carried the de Montille name since 1863. During much of its history it sold grapes to négociants - common practice for vineyard owners in the early 20th Century. The domaine also sold off whole parcels of land, significantly reducing its original holdings. Hubert de Montille inherited the remaining 2.5 hectares (6 acres) in Volnay and vinified his first vintage in 1947. In the following decades, he turned the domaine into one of the top red Burgundy producers, gradually accumulating parcels of land in various communes along the Côte d'Or. By 2011, the estate had grown to 20 hectares (50 acres) with 75 percent of its land in Premier or Grand Cru vineyards. This was more or less doubled by the purchase of Château de Puligny-Montrachet the following year (see below). Its most sought-after wines come from plots in Corton, Pommard, Vosne Romanée Aux Malconsorts and has grown to include plots of Chardonnay in Puligny-Montrachet's premier cru Le Cailleret vineyard as well. In the 1980s Hubert's son, Étienne, began working at the domaine, followed by his daughter, Alix. In the mid 1990s, Domaine de Montille began using organic farming practices. It took a turn towards Biodynamics in 2005 and was certified Organic in 2012. The winery only uses indigenous yeast and generally avoids chaptalization, resulting in wines that are rarely higher than 12 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). The use of new oak is also strictly controlled. The family also owns the negociant label Maison de Montille. This offers wines from non-estate grown fruit.

Producer Information Domaine A.F. Gros is a domaine based in Pommard that produces Pinot Noir at village, premier cru and grand cru levels from the communes of Pommard, Beaune, Savigny-les-Beaune, Vosne-Romanée and Chambolle-Musigny. The estate is one of three formed in 1988, when Jean and Jeanine Gros began to divide their estate (Domaine Jean Gros) among their three children, Michel, Bernard and Anne-Françoise. In addition, Colette Gros at Domaine Gros Frère et Soeur (which Bernard manages) is an aunt, while Anne Gros is a cousin. Today Anne-Françoise's childen Caroline and Mathias are at the forefront of the domaine. The wines are made by Mathias, who took over in 2011 from his father Francois Parent - regarded as one of the leading Pommard winemakers over recent decades. The latter's share of his family estate – Domaine Parent – was added to the estate on his marriage to Anne-Françoise. Parent also makes wines under his own label. After manual harvest and careful sorting, the grapes are all de-stemmed and undego cold maceration for four to five days. They are then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for a further two to three weeks, during which there are some punchdowns and pumpovers. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 12 months. There is 40 percent new oak for villages, 66 percent for premier cru, and 100 percent for grand cru wines. The wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
