Producer: Brian Carter Cellars Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 19% Varietal: Touriga Nacional Country/Region: United States, Yakima Valley Producer Information Of all the decisions a winemaker has to make – from grapes to barrels to yeast and equipment – the vineyards chosen for their wines is easily the most important. The site where the grapes are grown is the most critical piece of a wine’s quality, followed by the way the grapes are grown. Therefore, when Brian decides to source grapes from a particular vineyard, the effect on the final wine is doubly important, since it always involves a site as well as a grower/manager.Listed below are the eleven most important vineyards and growers from which Brian Carter Cellars currently sources grapes. In addition to the AVA (American Viticultural Area), the varieties sourced, and a brief description of the style of wines produced from each site, we have listed the year that the vineyard was first planted, and the year Brian first started to source from that vineyard (often dating back before the beginning of Brian Carter Cellars). Totaling the years these eleven vineyards have been in existence – over 300 years – gives us some idea of the cumulative experience these growers have managing their sites.

Producer: Château Cheval Blanc Ratings: WA 93 WS 93 Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Saint-Emilion Shows such glorious yet subtle fruit with chocolate, dark berries such as blackberries, and a light spice character. A walnut undertone. It's soft and silky with wonderful balance and beauty. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Offers up plenty of white chocolate, cassis and mulberry as well as a hint of roasted herbs. With fleshy, round flavors, full-bodied texture and an amazing finish. Wine Spectator: Aromas of roasted fig, blackberry confiture and kirsch, backed by a long, charcoal- and tar-coated structure. The finish is broad, deep and very dark, with plenty of power in reserve. Producer Information Château Cheval Blanc is a highly lauded wine estate in the Saint-Émilion region of northeast Bordeaux. Classified with the top ranking of Premier Grand Cru Classé A, it is regarded by many as one of the greatest wines of the appellation – if not, the greatest. It is certainly the most famous Cabernet Franc-based wine in the world, albeit often alongside very similar levels of Merlot. Typically, the "grand vin" (the estate's eponymous wine) is lush and full bodied with great weight of fruit. It tends to require ten years of bottle age and the best vintages can last half a century or more. The second wine of the estate is Le Petit Cheval. The vineyard is located in the northwest of the region, bordering Pomerol (La Conseillante is a neighbor) and consists of 39 hectares (96 acres) divided into 45 plots. There is an unusually large amount of Cabernet Franc planted – about 52 percent – with 43 percent Merlot and five percent Cabernet Sauvignon.

Producer: Selbach Oster Ratings: WA 93 WS 91 Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 8.5% Varietal: Riesling Country/Region: Germany, Mosel This is a rich, creamy wine, packed with stones fruits and complemented by electruc acidity and mineral accents. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The remarkably nuanced, savory complexity as well as the combination of creaminess with vivacity and elegance that characterize this site at its best certainly accrue to the Selbach's block-picked (at 140 aggregate Oechsle!), Pradikat-free 2010 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Rotlay, just as in this year's corresponding Spatlesen and Auslesen. Nut paste, honey, citrus cream, dried apricot, and brown spices are among the layers to be found densely packed yet coursing with almost electric energy and citricity (at 14 grams acidity!). Its hold on my palate is equaled by that on my imagination. Following this over the next two or more decades will be an adventure, and I suspect that it will unfold its layers and its sheer dynamism will turn to captivating dance. Wine Spectator: Juicy, with concentrated peach, apricot and ripe pear flavors that are well-spiced and linger with notes of fruit confit. The rich finish features plenty of minerally accents. Drink now through 2025. 183 cases made. Producer Information Selbach-Oster is a German wine producer located in the Mosel Valley, a wine region famous for extremely steep slopes, slate soils, and Riesling. The Selbach family has been producing wine in the region for more than 400 years. Selbach-Oster owns 24 hectares (59 acres) of well-known vineyard land planted mainly to ungrafted Riesling and some Pinot Blanc in the Middle Mosel. Regarded as the "golden mile", the steep, south-facing hectares stretch from Zeltingen to Bernkastel and include the vineyards Zeltinger Himmelreich, Zeltinger Schlossberg, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Wehlener Sonnenuhr and Graacher Domprobst. Selbach-Oster produces a full range of Riesling wine styles, from completely dry to botrytized dessert wines. Its style aims to express the high minerality of Mosel Riesling with relatively low alcohol. Indigenous, wild yeast is used to ferment the hand-picked fruit after harvest and half of the wine produced spends time in large oak barrels called foudres.

Reviews: Wine Advocate: Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Figeac bursts from the glass with gregarious scents of baked blueberries, black cherry compote and chocolate box with hints of camphor, pencil lead and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has beautifully ripe, velvety tannins and bold freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long and layered. James Suckling: Intense aromas of wet earth, leaves, sweet berries and cinnamon follow through to a full body, velvety and dense tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Opulent style. Just opening now, but this shows lots of stuffing, even if it does tighten down on the palate. Integrated and fine. Producer Information Figeac is a very ancient property. In the 2nd century, the Figeacus family gave its name to the estate. Traces of this Gallo-Roman villa still exist today. In the 15th century, FIGEAC was one of five noble houses in Saint-Emilion and passed from the Lescours family, who at that time also owned Ausone, into the hands of the Cazes family, who transmitted it through marriage to the Carles in the 17th century. After the Manoncourt family acquired the property in 1892, FIGEAC was mainly managed by agricultural engineers. However, in 1943, the year in which Thierry Manoncourt made his first vintage, a period of resurgencebegan for Figeac. Thierry Manoncourt realised in that year the huge potential of FIGEAC’s terroir and urged his mother, a Parisian, to hold on to the estate. In 1955 CHATEAU-FIGEAC became a First Great Classified Growth. Today, Madame Manoncourt and her daughters are ably supported by highly skilled wine-growing teams and are as eager as ever to guarantee the long-term continuity of FIGEAC. Lovely, complex nose, ripe, pineapples, vanilla, sweet spice, orange peel, ripe peaches. A very sweet wine with excellent concentration & reasonable balancing acidity. The wine’s alcohol is balanced & has a long finish. Producer Information Château Rieussec is a wine producer located in Fargues, in the Sauternes appellation in Bordeaux. It makes sweet wines from a classic Bordeaux blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, and was classified as a first growth in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac, alongside the finest sweet white wines the region. In the 18th Century, the estate was tended to by Carmelite monks before being confiscated in the French Revolution. After passing hands several times, it has now come under the ownership of Barons de Rothschild (which owns Château Lafite Rothschild), in partnership with Albert Frére of LVMH. Château Rieussec's 2001 vintage was #1 in Wine Spectator's Top 100 in 2004. The 93 hectares (230 acres) of vineyards are planted mostly with Semillon, alongside plots of Sauvignon Blanc and a small amount of Muscadelle. Estate vineyards border those with Château d'Yquem to the west. The terroir in Sauternes helps the spread of Botrytis cinerea, and Rieussec's grapes are hand-harvested as they are affected by noble rot. The best bunches are used to make the grand vin, which after fermentation spends 26 months in oak, about half new. Remaining juice is used to make the second wine, Carmes de Rieussec, which is only aged for 18 months. A dry white wine, R de Rieussec, is made from a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc and is partially barrel-fermented.

Producer: Château Doisy-Daëne Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Country/Region: France, Bordeaux A medium intensity of greenish yellow colour. Overt, intense aromas are of clean botrytis, with ripe, pineapple, peaches & honey. The palate has a lovely concentration & is very sweet, it is mouth-filling. The wine has good balancing acidity. Producer Information Château Doisy-Daëne is an esteemed estate known for its sweet white wines, located in the Barsac commune within Bordeaux. It is a Grand Cru Classé Second Growth under the classification of 1855, which took place in Sauternes and Barsac at the same time as the famous classification of the Médoc and Graves. Doisy-Daëne has been owned by the Dubourdieu family since 1924. The estate makes three wines from 18 hectares (45 acres) of vineyard. These are planted mostly to Semillon, with a small portion of Sauvignon Blanc. The Grand Vin is thus predominantly Semillon, and is made from botrytis-affected grapes. In exceptional vintages, a second wine called L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne is made as well, although this is designated under the Sauternes appellation. Barsac is the only one of the five villages within the Sauternes viticultural area to have its own appellation. L'Extravagant takes advantage of laws that allow estates to choose between the two designations. Doisy-Daëne also makes a dry, barrel-aged Sauvignon Blanc, the Château Doisy-Daëne Grand Vin Sec. This carries the broad Bordeaux AOC designation. The estate was once part of a larger property which was divided into three individual châteaux in the mid-19th Century. Château Doisy-Védrines and Doisy-Dubroca are also Grand Cru Classé Second Growths, known for their dessert wines made with botrytized grapes. Doisy-Daëne is one of five châteaux owned by the Dubourdieu family. All located in Bordeaux, the other estates are Châteaux Reynon, Cantegril, Haura and Clos Floridène. Denis Dubourdieu (1949-2016) was an acclaimed enologist and director of the Institute of Vine and Wine Sciences of the University of Bordeaux.

Producer: DeLille Cellars Ratings: WA 92 WE 91 Vintage: 2010 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.9% Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Country/Region: United States, Washington Sauvignon Blanc leads the way with aromas of toasted almonds, sweet straw, cardamom and other baking spices. Reminiscent of vanilla cream, guava, Meyer's lemon, pears and toasty oak tones, this wine delivers a supple, mouthwatering texture lingering on the palate long after the final sip. Superb balance, elegance, and length all contribute to a wine of timeless grace. Reviews: Wine Advocate: DeLille's 2010 Chaleur Estate Blanc – a blend of Sauvignon with 23% Semillon from four manifestly superbly well-managed sites – is dominated by lime peel-laced fig and honeydew melon, to which honeysuckle and heliotrope perfume add allure, and an aura of smokiness and high-toned suggestion of almond extract and peppermint add further pungent intrigue. The palate impression here manages adroitly to balance waxy texture, zesty piquancy, and infectious juiciness. "If you made the quantity of Semillon equal, it would take over the blend," notes Upchurch, channeling precisely the hypothesis I was myself entertaining at that moment. Everybody's giving up on Semillon," he adds with (what I at least hope is) hyperbole, "Californians, South Americans, even Australians; but I love working with it." Upchurch is proud of the particular assortment of barrels he has assembled to suit his Chaleur white, and it came as a big surprise to me after tasting this installment to learn that 70% of them were new; but the trick is that the wine spends only four months in them, based on what Upchurch, by analogy with baking, calls the "TODD" principle: take it out when it's done, dummy! This is likely to reward and morph significantly over a decade of cellaring. Wine Enthusiast: This new vintage of Chaleur Estate Blanc is still quite young and tight. It shows the toasty scents of pretty new oak, set in an elegant frame of mixed fruits. Cucumber, apple, citrus and melon flavors emerge, suggesting an overall lighter style from a cooler vintage. Graceful and polished. Producer Information DeLille Cellars is a prestigious Washington State wine producer, founded in 1992. It is smooth on entry, with flavors of pomegranate, cranberry, caramel, olive tapenade and Mediterranean herbs. Vigorous tannins land on the palate and are quickly washed away by bright acidity. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2010 Viña Tondonia Reserva has all I expect from a Reserva from Tondonia, complexity, elegance and evolution, a developed nose with notes of forest floor and wild berries, herbs and flowers, a touch of iodine, brick dust and very fine, polished tannins. It has the seriousness and elegance of Tondonia. James Suckling: This is as complex and savory as the rest of the Viña Tondonia wines, but also shows a tad more depth, with a hint of black plum and blue fruit on top of the orange rind, iron, tobacco and earthy spices. Expect some cedar and truffle to develop in the future. Juicy, zesty and tight, with a dusty tannins and bright berry fruit on the medium-to full-bodied palate. Producer Information R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is a Rioja producer that is widely regarded as one of the world's greatest wine estates. It was founded in 1877, and is well known for its traditional winemaking approach. It is particularly associated with its Tempranillo-based wines from the Tondonia vineyard, to the extent that this now forms part of the company name. The Tondonia vineyard extends for over 100 hectares (250 acres) in a picturesque site next to the Ebro river. The soil is made up of alluvial clay with a high limestone content, which has proved an excellent terroir for the Tempranillo and Garnacha vines that are planted there. Tondonia provides the grapes for López de Heredia's top wines, both red and white. The flagship wine from the company is the dry, vanilla-laden López de Heredia Gran Reserva. It is predominantly Tempranillo with small amounts of Garnacha and Mazuelo, and sees ten years aging in barrel before release. The Reserva, which adds a little Graciano to the blend, only receives six years. The two nutty, perfumed Viña Tondonia white wines – a Gran Reserva and a Reserva – have the same respective time in oak as the red wines, and are made from Viura with a small amount of Malvasia. Producer: Château d'Yquem Ratings: WA 98 JS 97 Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Country/Region: France, Sauternes The purity of Botrytis in this wine is so impressive with dried fruits such apple and mango. And then spicy character. Full body and very sweet but it is incredibly fresh and lively. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Pale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 d'Yquem is just now starting to strut its stuff with gregarious scents emerging of underripe mangos, fresh pineapples, poached pears and candied peel plus nuances of waxed lemons, fungi, musk perfume and wet clay. Wonderfully poised, the seductively intense fruit is offset by beautiful freshness, supporting layer upon layer of savory nut and baked-bread notions with the tantalizing exotic fruits coming through on the long, long finish. James Suckling: The purity of Botrytis in this wine is so impressive with dried fruits such apple and mango. And then spicy character. Full body and very sweet but it is incredibly fresh and lively. Such class and elegance. Perfectly manicured wine. Everything in the right place. This shows a delicacy and intensity that are spellbinding. Producer Information Château d'Yquem is a property in the Sauternes district of Bordeaux, making what is arguably the world's most famous dessert wine. It was the only Sauternes château rated as Premier Cru Supérieur in the official Classification of 1855, and is priced accordingly. The Yquem estate, owned by the King of England in the Middle Ages, has produced late-harvest wine since at least the late 1500s. The 103 hectare (254 acre) vineyard is situated on the highest hill in Sauternes. The soils here are perfect for the production of sweet wine – a warm, dry topsoil of pebbles and course gravel lies over a clay subsoil that retains generous water reserves, aiding with the development of noble rot, and there are around 60 miles (100km) of drains to prevent waterlogging. At any one time around 12ha (30 acres) of vineyard are either fallow or have young vines not suitable for production.

Producer: Château d'Angludet Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Margaux Already approachable, with ample ripe blackberries, earth and floral notes, the wine is soft, round and open, with an earthy, cassis and black cherry filled finish. Producer Information Château d'Angludet is a wine estate in the Margaux appellation of Bordeaux's northern Médoc wine region. Its wines are highly-regarded and often critically lauded despite being left outside the original 1855 classification. The vineyard sits on a triangular section of the Arsac plateau on Garonne gravel, around three kilometers (1.8 miles) from the Garonne river and the beginnings of the Gironde estuary which runs north before turning west to the Atlantic Oceana Margauxand the Bay of Biscay. Château d'Angludet's neighbors in Margaux, part of the wider, so-called "left bank" of Bordeaux, include châteaux du Tertre and Monbrison. The d'Angludet estate boasts around 32 hectares (79 acres) of vines on the 81 hectare (200 acre) property, with plantings consisting of 46 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 41 percent Merlot and 13 percent Petit Verdot. Grapes are fermented in concrete vats, and wines are aged in barrel for around 12 months with one-third new oak, then lightly fined with egg whites before bottling. Records of an estate at Angludet ("Angle of High Land") date back to 1150, and the vineyard is thought likely to have existed in the 17th Century. In 1791, the estate was split four ways among heirs on the death of the then-owner, its scattered nature explaining the lack of a subsequent ranking in 1855. The estate was reconsolidated in 1891, though by 1960 there were just seven hectares (17 acres) of vineyard. Since 1961, the property has been the home of the Sichel family, who have restored the château and the reputation of its wine.

The palate is bone dry however, juicy and mouthwatering freshness, good grip and extract, fine purity and layers of yellow fruit, very good length. Producer Information Schloss Gobelsburg is a highly regarded wine estate and historic property in the Kamptal region of Austria. It is one of the oldest wine estates of the country, particularly known for its wines from the Grüner Veltiner and Riesling grape varieties. Wine production at the site dates back to 1171. The monks of the Zwettl monastery managed the vineyards until 1995, when the business was taken over by Michael Moosbrugger, with the guidance of Willi Bründlmayer. The Gobelsburg castle itself was first documented in 1178 as a fortified property with adjoining church. It evolved into a more residential-focused property in the 16th Century and was completely rebuilt in 1725. Schloss Gobelsburg has 35 hectares (87 acres) of vineyards in various sites near the castle. These include the famous Erste Lage sites Heiligenstein and Gaisberg for Riesling, and Lamm, Steinsetz, Grub and Renner for Grüner Veltliner. These vineyards make the estate's range-topping, single-vineyard wines. Grüner Veltliner represents half of Gobelsburg's total plantings, with Riesling accounting for one quarter. Zweigelt, Sankt-Laurent, Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Merlot are also planted in the vineyards. In the...

Full-bodied, opulent and super spicy, it has a plush texture with a racy line supporting the hedonic fruit, finishing with jaw-dropping persistence. Full and juicy on palate with pure dark fruit and velvety tannins. So nicely layered texture and long in the finish with red fruit and crushed chalk. The texture is superb. Producer Information Château Canon is a Premier Grand Cru Classé château in Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux. It owns pockets of vineyards close to Saint-Émilion town, with a large core parcel right on the very edge. This parcel is almost completely walled in and is traditionally hand-harvested and ploughed by horses. It is planted entirely with Merlot. This is regularly used in the Château Canon grand vin, along with a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc from the estate's various other vineyards. More than 60 percent of Canon's vineyards are planted to Merlot. The remaining is planted to Cabernet Franc. The grapes are blended carefully to get the most from each: Merlot brings smoothness, finesse and intense fruit aromas; while Cabernet Franc brings structure and extra ability to age. The Château also makes the Croix Canon wine from an 11-hectare (27-acre) vineyard that borders the Canon estate. Buyers should be aware of the high number of wines from the Right Bank whose names include the word "Canon". This includes two distinct wines named Château Canon from Canon-Fronsac, one of which has a very similar label to this more famous wine.

Producer: Sleight Of Hand Cellars Vintage: 2010 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.8% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: United States, Washington Producer Information Born out of a chance meeting at the Sun Valley Wine Auction's trade tasting that developed into a deep friendship, and a shared passion for outstanding wine, rock and roll, and fun, Sleight of Hand Cellars is the brainchild (love child) of Trey Busch and Jerry Solomon. Following that initial meeting in 2002, Trey, Jerry, and the winery's third partner, Sandy Solomon, started doing annual wine dinners in Sun Valley while Trey worked as the winemaker at another local winery (a job he had taken after training under Eric Dunham of Dunham Cellars beginning in 2000). Those dinners continued for four years, until in 2006 Trey finally convinced Sandy and Jerry to come over to Walla Walla for a visit. That visit proved to be life-changing for the three partners. In less than 24 hours after their arrival in Walla Walla, the Solomons had not only fallen in love with Walla Walla and its unique charm, but a deal had been struck to start the winery. In June of 2007 the winery officially opened its doors with a small storefront tasting room in Downtown Walla Walla, while renting space at another winery for production purposes. But great press, and outstanding scores from critics, soon changed those minimalist beginnings. Sleight of Hand Cellars has two basic goals in its vision statement, to make world class wines and to have fun while doing it—a visit to the winery is all the proof anyone needs to confirm that the winery, and its partners, are succeeding on both fronts. The winery has been open for less than ten years, but in that time Sleight of Hand Cellars has been named one of "The Next Generation" of up and coming wineries in Washington State, as well as one of "The Next Cult Wineries" by Seattle Magazine. We have had numerous wines make the top 100 of Wine and Spirits Magazine, as well as Seattle Met Magazine.

Producer Information Tokaj-Oremus is a historic wine producer, located in the Tokaj region of northeast Hungary. The estate makes a range of the region's famous botrytized Tokaji wines, with sweetness levels ranging from three to six puttonyos. The history of Oremus dates back to the 1620s. Remarkably, the Oremus vineyard is credited with producing grapes for the first Tokaji Aszú ever made. Legend has it that in 1650, fearing an attack by the Turks, harvest was postponed for two months. Grapes were able to dehydrated on the vine and eventually produced an exceptional, intensely sweet wine. In 1993, the Alvarez family, owners of Spain's iconic Vega Sicilia, purchased the estate and founded Tokaj-Oremus Viñedos y Bodegas. The winery, located in Tolcsva, has 13th Century underground cellars where naturally sweet Tokaji wines are stored and aged. Oremus has 33 hectares (81 acres) of vineyard land, planted primarily to Furmint with smaller amounts of Hárslevelü, Sárga Muskotály, Zéta, Kövérszolo, and Gohér. The vineyards have a continental climate and the nearby confluence of two rivers provides the ideal conditions at harvest that make it possible for grapes to be affected by botrytis. Oremus' late harvest wine is mostly made from overripe grapes whereas the Aszú wine is made from botrytized berries which are selected one by one in tries. The winemaking process at...

Distillery Information The original Benrinnes was sited almost a mile south-east of today’s distillery. Built on the Whitehouse Farm in 1826 by Peter McKenzie, the distillery was completely destroyed just three years later, after a great flood laid waste to the buildings. In 1835, a new distillery was built, sited on the side of its namesake, the 840m peak which looms over Speyside. Alongside four other distilleries, Benrinnes draws its water from springs on the mountain, tapping the Rowantree and Scurran Burns. Following a devastating fire at the end of the nineteenth century, BenRinnes was rebuilt, converting to electric power. The distillery has an unusual distillation method; the six stills are used to partially triple-distil the make. Benrinnes made use of a Saladin Box maltings system from 1964. In 1984, it was decommissioned and malt was bought in instead. Despite the long history of Benrinnes, there has only been one official bottling - in 1991 a fifteen year-old was released. Save for a few independent bottlings, the majority of the spirit has been used in blends, notably Johnnie Walker and J&B. Today, single malt whiskies from Benrinnes remain a rare treat. Producer: Chateau Suduiraut Ratings: WA 93 WE 95 Vintage: 2010 Size: 375ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon Country/Region: France, Bordeaux Expressive fruity nose in this top Sauternes with ripe orange, apricot and pineapple. Candied orange peel, white peach and orange blossom. This Sauternes is elegant and with wonderfully balanced sweetness on the palate. Good structure and length. Vibrant acidity and lots of spice in the excellent finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Pale to medium lemon-gold colored, the 2010 Suduiraut features quite a savory nose with notes of lightly browned toast, salted almonds, nutmeg and cinnamon over a core of crème caramel, pear tart and peach cobbler. The palate is decadently sweet, concentrated and unctuous with soft acidity and a spicy finish. Wine Enthusiast: This is a gorgeously ripe, opulent wine that shows a rich fruit-salad ripeness, as well as darker notes of botrytis. The wine is full and very ripe with flavors of honey, fennel and lemon, with sweetness balanced by acidity. This is a wine that could be drunk soon but will age magnificently. Drink from 2016. Producer Information Château Suduiraut is located in Sauternes, Bordeaux, and is well-known for its highly-prized sweet wines made predominantly from Sémillon. In 1855, it was classified as a Premier Cru producer in the 1855 Classification of Sauternes and Barsac. Today, the vineyards are planted mostly with Sémillon, alongside small plots of Sauvignon Blanc and Sauvignon Gris. The estate, which borders the top estate of the appellation – Château d'Yquem, has over 90 hectares (220 acres) under vine, on gravelly, sandy soils near the banks of the Gironde, whose humidity (and that of nearby streams feeding the river) helps with the development of botrytis late in the growing season. As is often the case in top Sauternes estates, harvest is done in "tries" (successive passes through the vineyard) to make sure all the bunches are at optimum levels of botrytis when picked, and only the best botrytis-affected grapes make it into the Château Suduiraut grand vin. The grand vin is aged on its lees in 50 percent new French oak for up to 24 months. This process is...

Reviews: Matt Kettmann: A prime example of why Pinot Noir is great to release later in its life, this six-year-old wine is signing with concentrated strawberry, iron, dried rose petals, stewed black cherry and raw beef. The palate is quite earthy but also packs black plum, vanilla, pepper, thyme and marjoram into a wondrous and complete package. Producer Information The Wedell Cellars dream began in the late 1970's when Maurice Wedell began working with a well known French Restauranteur in Los Angeles. During the next ten years with the restauranteur’s guidance, Maurice developed a passion for wine. This passion led Maurice in 1988 to move along with his wife Susan, and their newborn son Justin, to the Central Coast of California, an area that had at that time already become known for producing highly acclaimed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Immediately, the Wedell’s planted a small experimental vineyard of Chardonnay in what became their first step in realizing their dream of creating wines styled after the great Burgundies of France. Wedell Cellars wines have been recognized by various wine writers for their excellence. Our wines have consistently scored 90 points and above when reviewed by wine critics. One well known wine publication, Decanter Magazine, stated in an article that one of our Wedell Cellars Pinot Noir's could easily be mistaken for Domaine de la Romanee Conti, the finest French Pinot Noir made.

Jeb Dunnuck: Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (all clone 337), the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard La Bam is up with the top tier wines in the vintage. Producer: Domaine Leflaive Vintage: 2000 Size: 375ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: France, Burgundy Les Pucelles 2000 from Domaine Leflaive is a very charming wine. Two bottles were served, on from a very cold cellar, and one from a slightly warmer cellar. Both were quite open and mature, with a wonderful charming personality. Producer Information Domaine Leflaive, based in Puligny-Montrachet, is one of the most important producers in the Côte de Beaune. Focusing almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, the Domaine makes four grand cru wines and four premier crus in Puligny-Montrachet. The Domaine was founded by Joseph Leflaive, a former engineer. In 1905, he purchased vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet which had been ravaged by phylloxera, and set about replanting and expanding them. Upon his death in 1953, his sons Vincent and Jo took over the running of the estate, and are widely credited with building up the reputation that Leflaive enjoys today. In 1990, cousins Anne Claude and Olivier Leflaive took over the running of the estate, with Olivier leaving in 1994 to run his own negociant business. Anne Claude converted the vineyards to biodynamics and is considered a pioneer of that movement in Burgundy. After her death in 2015, her nephew Brice de la Morandiere has taken over the running of Domaine Leflaive. Domaine Leflaive's most important wine is arguably the Montrachet Grand Cru, which, depending on vintage, can fetch upwards of $5000 a bottle. The domaine also has land in Chevalier-Montrachet, Batard-Montrachet, and Bienvenues-Batard-Montrachet, and makes a grand cru wine from each. Additional to this, there are several premier cru wines, the most important of which is probably the Les Clavoillon, which was one of the wines included in the 1976 Judgment of Paris. Domaine Leflaive also makes a sole red wine from Pinot Noir under the Blagny Sous le Dos d'Ane Premier Cru title.
