This is a good start, but we are convinced the farming practices that have evolved over generations have as much to do with the wines’ personalities as the soils. The regeneration of the vineyards long since neglected depends upon this farming. GWCo. also makes an old-vine Cab Franc (old bush head vines) and a Cab Sauv blend in the Maule as well as two Cabs mountain-grown in the Maipo where the firm began in 2003. Producer Information Chimney Rock is a Californian wine producer, located off the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. It is best known for its individualistic, single-vineyard red wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate was bought in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, who planted 24 hectares (59 acres) of various red and white grape varieties. Soon after the first vintage in 1989, phylloxera hit the vineyard, forcing the replanting of the entire property. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, however, as the Wilsons were able to replant with a focus on the Bordeaux varieties – mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with blocks of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Producer Information The Markus IRO winery is located in Gols in the middle of the traditional wine-growing area, where about 20 hectares of vines are cultivated in excellent sites such as Gabarinza or Heideboden. 30% of the vines are used for white wines, 70% for red wines. The Pannonian as well as continental influences due to high humidity as well as little precipitation favor the quality of IRO wines. Producer Information Santa Rita (also referred to as Viña Santa Rita)is one of Chile's most prominent wine producers, and is based in the Alto Jahuel area of the Maipo Valley. It has vineyards in some of the country's best winegrowing regions, including Aconcagua, the Limari Valley, Apalta, the Rapel Valley and the Casablanca Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère are Santa Rita's most important grape varieties, but wines are also made from Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay. Santa Rita was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha. Considerable wealth from mining in the Atacama desert was flowing into Santiago at the time and a wine industry sprang up just south of the city. Santa Rita, along with its contempories Cousiño Macul and Concha Y Toro, introduced vines from France and began to make wine. Today, Santa Rita has five wineries across Chile with the combined capacity to produce and store nearly 90 million liters of wine. The company's diversity of vineyards means a diverse portfolio. For instance, Santa Rita's vineyards in the Limari Valley are planted on alluvial soils and there is a warm Mediterranean climate, so Chardonnay, Carmenère and Syrah do well. The estate was founded in this coastal area to cultivate Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot grapes.Elena Celli and Luca D'Attoma established Duemani in 2000. Today, the estate extends over 10 hectares (25 acres) of land separated into four vineyards: two dedicated to Cabernet Franc, one to Merlot and one to Syrah. All four vineyards are planted on a single rocky, clay hillside at altitudes of approximately 820ft (250m) above sea level. The vineyards are all coastal-facing and cultivated according to biodynamic agricultural methods.Duemani makes a range of Costa Toscana IGT wines including several varietal red and rosé wines from Cabernet Franc and Syrah, as well as a Cabernet Franc – Merlot red blend.
