Producer: Chimney Rock Vintage: 2013 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Cabernet Franc Country/Region: United States, Stags Leap District This wine shows terrific balance and harmony. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Chimney Rock is a Californian wine producer, located off the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. It is best known for its individualistic, single-vineyard red wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate was bought in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, who planted 24 hectares (59 acres) of various red and white grape varieties. Soon after the first vintage in 1989, phylloxera hit the vineyard, forcing the replanting of the entire property. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, however, as the Wilsons were able to replant with a focus on the Bordeaux varieties – mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with blocks of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The wine portfolio of Chimney Rock's showcases terroir, with a majority of wines produced from a single vineyard block. The most notable of these include the Alpine Vineyard, Arete, Clone 7, Ganymede Vineyard, and Tomahawk Vineyard wines, all of which are characteristic of the Stags Leap District, with concentrated fruit intermingling with notes of sage, violet and graphite.

Producer: Hourglass Wines Vintage: 2019 Size: 750ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Cabernet Franc Country/Region: United States, California Aromatics are always the signature of Franc, and in our 2019 more powerfully than ever. Classic notes of violets, Herbes de Provence and black olive span from glass lift to finish. The palate complements the superstar nose: orange rind, rose oil and crushed tea leaves sit atop richly textured black currant and blueberry fruit flecked with cocoa, roasted coffee, and a distinct iron filings minerality. Producer Information Hourglass Wines is a small Californian winery in Napa Valley with a reputation for limited-production Cabernet Sauvignon. It was founded in the 1990s by Jeff Smith, who took over farming the vineyard that his father Ned had planted in the 1970s. Smith replanted the 5 acre (2 hectare) vineyard with Cabernet Sauvignon in 1992. His family had been growing and selling Zinfandel from the vineyard to local producers since 1976, but the spread of phylloxera in California in the late 1980s and early 1990s was killing the vines. Cabernet Sauvignon replaced the Zinfandel and the vineyard was named Hourglass Vineyard after the topography of the valley, shaped by the surrounding Mayacamas Range. The inaugural vintage was in 1997. In 2006, Hourglass Wines expanded with the purchase of the 22 acre (9ha) Blueline Vineyard. Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec joined the Cabernet Sauvignon plantings and the winery expanded its range to include Bordeaux-style blends along with its varietal wines. It has since added Sauvignon Blanc to the portfolio as well. All the wines are labeled under the Napa Valley viticultural area, though Hourglass Vineyard is in the St Helena AVA and Blueline is in Calistoga. The wine is sold through allocation via mailing list, and has a waiting list, much like many other small "cult" wineries in Napa Valley.

Flavors of coffee, chocolate, cherries and sage stick to your tongue with big and bold tannins. Lingering finish of sweet alcohol, cedar plank and cherry reduction sauce. Producer Information In 1980, the family acquired land in the hills east of Rutherford in the Napa Valley. They were farmers first, and farmers they remain. In 1995 they decided on the strength of the fruit to make wine under their own label. The following year the family produced the first vintage of zinfandel, and along the way we have added Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Petite Sirah, and the occasional dessert wine. In 2010 the Brown family celebrated thirty years in the Napa Valley and Brown Estate's fifteenth crush. Over the years the farming philosophy has not changed: Their fifty acres of vineyards are planted amidst 450 acres of roughneck wilderness that they strive to tend rather than tame – from the occasional inconvenient honeybee hive in the winery to the prickly star thistles in the vineyards that are a part of their ecosystem.

Expresses a great herbal character with notes of fresh red fruits. Lively acidity and subtlety of tannins in the mouth. Reviews: Wine Advocate: There was an acute note of freshly cracked black peppercorns in the nose of the 2019 Polígonos San Pablo Cabernet Franc, which matured in foudre. They use oak for Cabernet Franc, which they feel needs more oxygen than the Malbec, which matures in concrete. The grape is very transparent to the place, despite being a very aromatic and recognizable variety. It has a very fine thread, refined tannins and a lack of fruit, with dry flowers. This is from a place where they struggle to ripen the variety, and the wine is always sharp. Decanter: Made by Sebastián Zuccardi with grapes from a vineyard located at 1,400m in San Pablo, this austere, spicy, herbal wine was fermented in concrete and aged in used barrels. On the palate it presents a well-focused acidity and fine tannins. Producer Information A few years before 1950, Ing. Alberto Zuccardi reaches Mendoza from his homeland in Tucuman where their great-grandparents had settled upon arriving in the Italian region of AveIino. In 1963, Alberto implanted a vineyard in the region of Maipu not knowing that it would begin the great passion of his life, the wine industry. In 1990, his son, Jose Alberto Zuccardi, assumed the General Director of the company. In 2005, Sebastian Zuccardi, third generation of the family, lead the development of the new stage of the wines of the winery expansion into the Uco Valley. On his initiative, since 2008 the winery has an area of Research and Development dedicated to the study of the terroir and the different variables that affect wine production. In 2013 the construction of the new Zuccardi winery in the Uco Valley began. It opened in March 2016 with the premise of producing wines with identity, through the continuous exploration of the different terroirs of the Uco Valley. On the palate, there are notes of black fruit, licorice, cherry, and vanilla, with a smokey finish. Producer Information Garage Wine began quite literally in Pilar and Derek’s Garage. After half a dozen vintages making wine for an informal market of family and friends, it began exporting to UK & Denmark in 2006. GWCo makes wines from a series of individual parcels, small lots / bottlings of 8 -22 barrels that include a series of dry-farmed field-blends of Carignan, Garnacha, Monastrell, País, Cinsault and Cab Franc grown on pre-phylloxera rootstock with small farmers in the Maule and Itata. Each wine is from a 1-2 hectare parcel in a different place: Bagual, Caliboro, Coelemu, Guarilihue, Loncomilla, Portezuelo, Puico, Ranquil, Sauzal, Truquilemu… Over the years working in the community we have raised a veritable posse of vineyard hands whose skills are working the vineyards the old way / the traditional way— originario. We cultivate vineyards with small vigneron partners who work with horse and plough as his family has done for generations. Some of the parcels, where the next generation moved to the city, we have opted to rent long-term creating more work for the local hands who do want to stay on the farm. The vineyards are on the old Coastal Range of mountains closer to the Pacific — Chile’s other mountains. These are older and cooled more slowly so they have granitic soils, many with intrusions and cracks for roots to get deep down into. When GWCo. speaks of the provenance of our wines however we mean more than just the geology of the terroir. This is a good start, but we are convinced the farming practices that have evolved over generations have as much to do with the wines’ personalities as the soils. The regeneration of the vineyards long since neglected depends upon this farming. GWCo. also makes an old-vine Cab Franc (old bush head vines) and a Cab Sauv blend in the Maule as well as two Cabs mountain-grown in the Maipo where the firm began in 2003. All the wines are made by hand with native yeasts in small tanks, punched down manually and pressed out in a small basket press. GWCo is still very much a DIY operation and we...

In 2004, the Wilsons sold Chimney Rock to the Terlato family, owners of a global portfolio of wine brands.

Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a pretty finish. From organically/biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Tasted as an unfinished wine, the 2019 Merlot Cabernet Franc Altrovino is a blend that is assembled immediately after the harvest and fermented in cement and terracotta. Future vintages will probably see more terracotta, as winemaker Luca D'Attoma is moving in this direction, especially as this material will give the wine an edge when it comes to aging, he says. The bouquet delivers some minty tones and eucalyptus essence on top of dark cherry and blackberry. There is a lot of concentration and fruit weight in this bottle, with a blast of pretty freshness on the close. Altrovino should be released next spring. Producer: Santa Rita Vintage: 2021 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Cabernet Franc Country/Region: Chile, Maipo Valley Fruity flavors dominate the palate, where the tannins are sharp and the acidity, juicy and firm. Producer Information Santa Rita (also referred to as Viña Santa Rita)is one of Chile's most prominent wine producers, and is based in the Alto Jahuel area of the Maipo Valley. It has vineyards in some of the country's best winegrowing regions, including Aconcagua, the Limari Valley, Apalta, the Rapel Valley and the Casablanca Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère are Santa Rita's most important grape varieties, but wines are also made from Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Chardonnay. Santa Rita was founded in 1880 by Domingo Fernández Concha. Considerable wealth from mining in the Atacama desert was flowing into Santiago at the time and a wine industry sprang up just south of the city. Santa Rita, along with its contempories Cousiño Macul and Concha Y Toro, introduced vines from France and began to make wine. Today, Santa Rita has five wineries across Chile with the combined capacity to produce and store nearly 90 million liters of wine. The company's diversity of vineyards means a diverse portfolio. For instance, Santa Rita's vineyards in the Limari Valley are planted on alluvial soils and there is a warm Mediterranean climate, so Chardonnay, Carmenère and Syrah do well. However, in Leyda Valley, the fine clay soils and the cooler climate are better suited to Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Santa Rita's flagship wine is the Casa Real, a Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards surrounding the Maipo estate. It is aged for 14 months in new French and American oak before release, and can be happily cellared for a decade or so. Another key wine is the Bougainville Petite Sirah, a premium red made from a grape variety not usually seen in Chile. Other notable wines in the Santa Rita portfolio include the Reserva range, the Medalla Real range, and the entry-level 120 range.

Pretty intensity and focus at the finish, where the flavors pop out. From biodynamically grown grapes. Reviews: Wine Advocate: After the rich and more concentrated 2017 vintage, the 2018 Merlot Cabernet Franc Altrovino comes off as more specific to the grapes used in the blend. It shows light shadings of garden herb and spice that come from the Cabernet Franc (which is aged in terracotta amphorae), and those flavors are enhanced by the cherry and blackberry delivered by the Merlot. This is a beautifully pure expression, one of the clearest I remember in recent memory. The wine pours forth with dark fruit, spice, tilled earth and cured tobacco.
