No doubt aging part of the blend in large oak casks has kept it focused and fresh, but we used about 60% new French oak barrels to add some richness and spice. It’s yummy now but please let some bottles rest a few years to really get the most out of it. Taylor represents the fourth generation of his family to be involved in grape growing and wine making. The family has been either growing grapes or producing wines since 1878. From 1883-1919, the Taylor Wine Company rapidly expanded, the Taylor family bought grapes from numerous local vineyardists. The successful winery needed a consistent water and electrical power supply, which it could not get at its original site at Bully Hill. In 1919, the Taylor family moved the winery to a new site, two miles outside of the Village of Hammondsport. The orginal winery site atop Bully Hill was sold to Lloyd Sprague in 1928.
