Producer: Chimney Rock Vintage: 2013 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Cabernet Franc Country/Region: United States, Stags Leap District This wine shows terrific balance and harmony. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Chimney Rock is a Californian wine producer, located off the Silverado Trail in the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley. It is best known for its individualistic, single-vineyard red wines produced from Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate was bought in 1980 by Hack and Stella Wilson, who planted 24 hectares (59 acres) of various red and white grape varieties. Soon after the first vintage in 1989, phylloxera hit the vineyard, forcing the replanting of the entire property. This turned out to be a blessing in disguise, however, as the Wilsons were able to replant with a focus on the Bordeaux varieties – mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, with blocks of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. The wine portfolio of Chimney Rock's showcases terroir, with a majority of wines produced from a single vineyard block. The most notable of these include the Alpine Vineyard, Arete, Clone 7, Ganymede Vineyard, and Tomahawk Vineyard wines, all of which are characteristic of the Stags Leap District, with concentrated fruit intermingling with notes of sage, violet and graphite.

Some savory notes and hints of citrus zest and mint. This wine is intensely aromatic and develops in the glass as layers are revealed. This full-bodied wine is powerful yet exhibits grace and finesse. A rich and dense mid-palate evolves into a muscular and graceful finish. In 2004, the Wilsons sold Chimney Rock to the Terlato family, owners of a global portfolio of wine brands.

After consulting with the famed Andre Tchelistcheff and Louis Martini, he purchased it and planted it all to Cabernet Sauvignon. After Al passed away in 2006, Boots ran the winery with her son Phil Ross until her death in 2019. The flavor adds more complex notes including coffee, chocolate, and vanilla. The smooth mouthfeel is attributable to soft acidity and silky tannins. Producer Information Lodi is justifiably lauded for its old vine Zinfandels, but it is a production powerhouse when it comes to Cabernet Sauvignon. Lodi and its surrounding area (San Joaquin County) rank third in the state in acres planted to Cab, behind Napa and Paso Robles/San Luis Obispo County. But in total tons crushed Lodi is number one by a wide margin, surpassing Napa and Paso combined. In other words, Lodi produces more Cabernet Sauvignon than anywhere else in the U.S. This more volume-driven approach to viticulture makes possible the value-oriented bottlings that so many wine drinkers reach for on an everyday basis. These offer the varietal’s classic profile of dark fruit, oak influence, subtle herbal and green pepper notes and solid structure. Try Lodi Cabernet Sauvignon from wineries like Cosentino, Ironstone, Lapis Luna and The Federalist.

Producer: Lokoya Ratings: WA 100 JD 100 Vintage: 2014 Size: 5L ABV: 15% Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon Country/Region: United States, California The 2014 iteration has typically intense and pure black fruits at its core, with mere hints of the subtle savoury nuances that await to unfurl. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Usually my favorite in many vintages, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder is the most backward of the 2014s and actually seems to require 4-5 years of bottle age. The wine has the telltale signs of Mt. Veeder – blackberry and blueberry fruit infused with considerable floral nuances. This wine has all that, then hits the palate with a cascade of glycerin, fruit extraction, and layers of blackberry and blueberry fruit. It is full-bodied and opulent, but finishes with some structure and ripe tannin. This is a magnificent wine – full-throttle, extremely pure, and incredibly well-balanced. Jeb Dunnuck: The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is beautifully complete, with a layered, multi-dimensional, elegant profile that's more structured than the Diamond Mountain, yet more seamless and approachable than the Howell Mountain. Crème de cassis, Asian spice, smoked earth, incense and sandalwood note all flow to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon that has no hard edges, ultra-fine tannin, incredible purity of fruit, and a great finish. As with all these 2014s, it's not about huge richness and opulence and more about purity, nuance and balance. Producer Information Lokoya Winery is a premium wine producer of Napa Valley, concentrating on wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon. Total production each vintage is limited and noted American critic Robert Parker has regularly dished out 100-point scores for the wines. Both of these factors have cemented Lokoya's cult status and have led to some very high prices. Lokoya produces four varietal Cabernet Sauvignon wines, sourced from distinct hillside sites on Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain and Diamond Mountain. Each of the four is vinified in the same way with the intention being to showcase the terroir of each site. The wines are fermented with native yeasts and are aged in French oak for 18-22 months prior to being bottled unfined and unfiltered. The inky purple color, the stunning nose of cedar wood, unsmoked cigar tobacco, graphite, crème de cassis and subtle new oak is followed by a multi-layered, profoundly concentrated, large-scaled wine with sensational levels of blackcurrant fruit moving toward blackberries. A wine of great intensity, silky tannins and adequate acidity, this is clearly one of the great, great wines of the vintage, and another tour de force in winemaking from Carpenter. Jeb Dunnuck: The 2014 Cardinale is another awesome wine from winemaker Chris Carpenter, and I actually like it more than the 2015. A blend from multiple estate vineyards, its deep purple color is followed by a larger than life bouquet of sweet crème de cassis, scorched earth, graphite, tobacco leaf and spicy wood. A big, opulent, sexy wine, it has incredible grace and elegance as well as beautiful purity and a great finish. This is a tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon that does everything right. It's approachable today (as are almost all 2014s) yet is going to cruise in the cellar for another two decades or more. Bravo! Sitting with remarkable depth of colour in the glass, the nose exudes rich notes of cassis, mulberry, graphite, crushed stones and liquorice. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Very deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain gives up wonderfully expressive crème de cassis, licorice, tar and underbrush notes with hints of charcuterie and bay leaves. Big, rich, full and opulent in the mouth, it has firm, velvety tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long with spice nuances coming through. James Suckling: This packs a wallop of blueberry, açaí and blackberry compote flavors at the core, backed by juicy energy that seemingly won’t quit, as waves of anise, bramble and sweet tobacco course through on the finish. Located in Sebastopol in Sonoma County, the winery specializes in single-vineyard varietal wines made from Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and Chardonnay. Hobbs already had an impressive resumé as a consultant before establishing his own winery, which has gone on to receive significant critical recognition. Hobbs started his career working for Robert Mondavi in 1978, and was involved with the creation of Opus One – the collaboration between Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild of the Bordeaux first growth Mouton Rothschild. Hobbs consulted with Simi Winery and championed the Argentinian wine industry while at Bodega Catena Zapata. The connections Hobbs made throughout this period allowed his winery project to achieve financing in a difficult period when California was suffering from the effects of phylloxera in the early 1990s. Producer Information Blue Rock is a historic, private destination in the heart of the Sonoma/Napa wine country. The winery, vineyard, and gardens were established in the 1880s by Italian immigrants. Originally named Villa Maria, the winery did not survive Prohibition. Other families attempted to farm the property, but it fell into foreclosure in the late 1980s. Kenny and Cheryl Kahn came upon the rundown estate in 1987 and promptly fell in love with the beauty of the hillside location and the bucolic Alexander Valley. The estate suffered from years of neglect, and the derelict vineyard needed replanting. Kenny and Cheryl have spent 32 years renovating the original winery and estate cottage, as well as establishing winemaking and production facilities. The Winery, guesthouse, and gardens have now been upgraded to a true \ luxury standard and with the singular vision of creating a world-class wine estate in the European tradition. Blue Rock is family-owned, family-farmed and certified sustainable. The name originates from the soil studded with blue pebbles, rocks, and boulders of serpentine. The serpentine rock contributes to the unique flavor and aromatic profile of the wines deriving from the vineyard. Comprised of 40 acres, the certified sustainable vineyard is planted to the five Bordeaux varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, and Syrah. Vineyard work and harvest are done by hand, with attention to detail and process. Our workers are full-time and enjoy a year-round relationship with the vines which makes for better quality.

This luxurious red wine offers layers of ripe blackberry, dark cherry, and subtle oak, delivering a rich and balanced finish perfect for any occasion. Whether you're searching for the perfect red wine gift or simply want to indulge yourself, this wine is an exceptional choice. In 2004, the Wilsons sold Chimney Rock to the Terlato family, owners of a global portfolio of wine brands.
