Producer: Le Clos des Fées Vintage: 2014 Size: 750ml ABV: 15% Varietal: Grenache Country/Region: France, Languedoc-Roussillon This 2014 vintage expresses a powerful, very complex nose, predominantly vanilla which evolves very quickly with aeration. The second nose reveals a dominant black fruit, with aromas of blackberry jam, blackcurrant and warm blueberry tart. Producer Information Le Clos des Fées is a wine estate in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of southern France. It was founded by Hervé Bizeul in 1997 and specializes in the classic wines of this region, namely Côtes du Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages and Côtes Catalanes. Bizeul, then a sommelier and wine journalist, established the estate with just a few plots of vines and a converted garage for a winery. The first vintage was produced using extremely basic winemaking equipment, including four small tiny resin tanks and cheese-cloths. Over the years Le Clos des Fées has evolved to comprise seven vineyard sites in Vingrau, Tautavel, Maury, Calce, Lesquerde, Opoul and Espira de l'Agly. These vineyards are planted on a diverse range of soil types that vary from limestone to clay to granite, some with pebbles reminiscent of those found in Châteaneuf-du-Pape. These soils, when combined with the wide range of vineyard exposures, provide the ideal growing conditions for Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, Carignan, Cabernet Franc and even Tempranillo. The wines produced by Le Clos des Fées are equally as varied as the terroirs they are sourced from. The iconic Les Sorcières is a blend of 50 percent Syrah, 30 percent Grenache and 20 percent Carignan from vines aged between 40-80 years old. The estate's oldest vines are nearly 100 years old and are the source of the Le Clos des Fées Grenache Blanc Vieilles Vignes, and the Côtes du Roussillon Villages Vieilles Vignes.
