Producer: DAOU Ratings: WA 97 JD 95 Vintage: 2018 Size: 3L ABV: 14.7% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: United States, California Full-bodied richness on the palate, it offers ripe tannins, a round, layered, yet still focused texture, and a great finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2018 Soul Of A Lion is an incredible Cabernet Sauvignon, made exclusively from free-run juice, blended with 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot and aged 22 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque ruby-purple in color, the nose opens slowly, segueing from graphite and tobacco leaves, to violets and blue fruit preserves, to cinnamon, potpourri and dark spices. The palate is seamless and cashmere-like, with expansive, pure, mineral-laced fruits enlivened by a burst of freshness that highlights the perfectly ripe fruit character this vintage. The finish is very long, offering violet perfume and iron tones that linger in the mouth. This is a gorgeous wine that combines unique personality with expert craftsmanship. Jeb Dunnuck: Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon blended with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2018 Soul Of A Lion offers a brilliant array of cassis, tobacco leaf, graphite, lead pencil, and earth. With full-bodied richness on the palate, it offers ripe tannins, a round, layered, yet still focused texture, and a great finish. Producer Information Founders George and Daniel Daou began searching for the vineyards that would comprise the DAOU estate in the mid 2000s - their objective was to find the perfect terroir for producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon. They eventually settled on an estate in the Adelaida District AVA in San Luis Obispo County, specifically a plot once singled out by oenologist André Tchelistcheff as being of great potential. It's rare to find high quality Cabernet Sauvginon in Paso Robles, rare even to find anyone vinifying the grape here, but the high altitude of the site combined with a forensic approach in the vineyard and winery have allowed the team at DAOU to produce some truly fantastic wines. The flagship Cabernet Sauvignons are dense, intense reds that are set to age for many decades. Mayote is a Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah blend while the estate Chardonnay is a surprisingly elegant entry in the portfolio.

Producer: Stag's Leap Wine Cellars Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah Country/Region: United States, California This Napa Valley red blend offers inviting aromas of blackberry and blueberry fruit along with hints of violet and white pepper. Medium-bodied, the wine has a lingering, round mid-palate with rich fruit flavors and a touch of dark chocolate. Food-friendly and approachable, the 2018 Hands of Time pairs equally well with shredded pork tacos, grilled chicken or beef sliders. Producer Information Stag's Leap Wine Cellars was founded in the early 1970s by the Winiarski family on land that would eventually become part of the Stags Leap AVA in Napa Valley, California. The Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend had its first vintage in 1972, and rose to rapid fame in 1976 when it beat out the likes of Mouton-Rothschild and Haut-Brion at the blind Judgement of Paris tasting that is widely credited with putting California's wine industry on the map. The estate consists of two adjoining vineyards in Napa: the Stag's Leap Vineyard (SLV) and the Fay vineyard in the Stags Leap AVA planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, as well as a small portion of Petit Verdot. The SLV vineyard has volcanic soils and contributes spice and concentration to its grapes, whereas the Fay vineyard is predominantly alluvial and gives a more aromatic character. Stag's Leap's top wine is the Cask 23, a varietal Cabernet Sauvignon from the Stag's Leap Vineyard. This wine came about as the 1974 Stag's Leap Cabernet was being blended from different barrels. The winemaker came across a barrel so exceptional that it could not be placed into the blend. Instead, he bottled it on its own and named it Cask 23. Stag's Leap's other premium wines include the single vineyard expressions of SLV and Fay. Stag's Leap Wine Cellar is not to be confused with the nearby producer, Stags' Leap Winery. The two came to legal blows in the 1980s over the Stag's Leap title, but an agreement was reached over the careful placement of the apostrophe. Later, they would team up to fight the proposed Stags Leap District AVA, although that was also settled with the complete omission of the apostrophe from the appellation's name. In 2007, Stag's Leap Wine Cellars, including the winery and the SLV and Fay vineyards, was sold for $185 million to Washington's...

Essence of blackberries. Then it goes to crushed stones and pine needles. Aromatic perfection. Full-bodied with well framed tannins and beautiful dark fruit. Superb finish and intensity. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2018 IX Estate is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot. Very deep purple-black colored, it needs a little coaxing to reveal earth and mineral scents of iron ore, tilled soil, forest floor and truffles with ripe red and black currants, kirsch, Black Forest cake and mulberries plus nuances of tar, lilacs and Sichuan pepper. Full-bodied and built like a brick house, the palate has a rock-solid frame of firm, grainy tannins and exhilarating freshness supporting the taut, muscular fruit. Mineral and savory accents linger long into the epic finish. A thought-provoking, pensive, mesmerizing wine. Jeb Dunnuck: Another perfect wine, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon IX Estate is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, all from the estate on Pritchard Hill. A monster of a wine that needs serious bottle age, it reveals a dense purple hue as well as a mineral-drenched bouquet of pure crème de cassis, charcoal, spring flowers, tobacco, and earth. Just incredible on the palate, it’s full-bodied and flawlessly balanced, with remarkable purity and a finish that won’t quit. Cabernet – or red wine for that matter – doesn’t get any better! It needs a solid 5-7 years of bottle age, but this legendary wine will see its 50th birthday in fine form. Producer: Forge Cellars Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 12% Varietal: Riesling Country/Region: United States, Seneca Lake It presents itself with great elegance and charm with precise aromas, imposing but very fine tannins and great length. Producer Information Founded in 2011 Forge Cellars has quickly become the benchmark producer for bone-dry Riesling in the Finger Lakes and in the United States. The unique cool climate region of the Finger Lakes has help to define Forge’s dry Riesling as a wine that combines cool climate aro-matics of peach and apricot with balanced texture and refreshing acidity all while maintaining low levels of alcohol. Their Dry Riesling Classique garnered the #31 spot on Wine Spectator’s “Top 100” lists in 2017 and 2020 for the 2015 and 2018 vintages, respectively. Partners, Louis Barruol (Château de Saint Cosme in Gigondas, France), and Richard Rainey have been working together since their first vintage in 2011 to produce hand-crafted, terroir-driven, bone dry Riesling, cool-climate Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc. Focusing on the east side of Seneca Lake—the deepest of the Finger Lakes at 620ft—the duo works with several premier sites with considerable slope and an abundance of different clones and soils. They have long-term relationships with growers throughout the region, and work closely with them to cultivate healthy grapes and develop viticultural programs that work well for each individual site. Bellows is the estate vineyard at Forge Cellars, which is farmed biointesively and dense-ly-planted to Riesling and Pinot Noir. Each vintage, a variety of lieux-dits (single vineyard bottlings) are produced in limited quanti-ties. These wines reflect the substance and diversity of southeast Seneca Lake, and pay homage to Forge Cellars’ exploration of the region. Of most importance in the winery’s lineup is their Classique, which represents their work on a larger scale. All of their lieux-dits, each vinified separately, are the basis of this wine and represent the DNA of Classique. In the words of Lou-is Barruol, “This wine is like you and me—we are individually unique, but we represent all of our ancestors at the same time. We carry their traits.”

Dark, ample and enveloping, the 2018 possesses notable richness and volume right out of the gate. Inky dark fruit cherry, plum, mocha, lavender and sweet spice all meld together, framed by supple, silky tannins that add considerable immediacy and overall appeal. Wine Enthusiast: Fresh aromas of smashed black cherry and dark strawberry prove quite juicy on the nose of this bottling, while tarragon, cinnamon and nutmeg elements add nuance. The palate is like a bowlful of cherries and strawberries, sprinkled generously with chai and French toast spices, proving immensely easy to quaff. Producer Information For years, vintners have coveted a stretch of land in the western end of Santa Barbara's Santa Rita Hills AVA known to have the perfect microclimate, soils, and exposure to grow world-class Pinot Noir. In 1999, fulfilling a long-held dream of owner Bob Davids, this sought-after stretch of land became Sea Smoke Vineyard. At Sea Smoke, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on the south-facing hillsides of our estate vineyards. On summer evenings, the Santa Ynez River canyon funnels a cool maritime fog layer (sea "smoke") across our hillsides, slowing the ripening process and providing the extended maturation period essential to the development of top-quality Pinot Noir. Our shallow clay soils are planted to French clones on vigor-reducing rootstocks, resulting in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, and our artisinal approach to winemaking results in wines that are a reflection of the unique land on which they are grown. We believe that Sea Smoke's rare geography and commitment to quality have produced wines of exceptional complexity and grace. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.

Producer: Accendo Cellars Ratings: WA 92 WS 93 Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.8% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: United States, Napa Valley The opulent nose of this wine exhibits fresh and bright aromas of cranberries and raspberries, cedar and tobacco, with notes of dried flowers and herbs. In the mouth, the palate is juicy, rich and round, full of ripe flavors of red fruits carried by a framework of ne tannins that give the wine structure and grip, ending in a delicious, long finish with lingering touches of minerality. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Laurea is a new "second" wine making its debut this year. In the spirit of the former Araujo Estate Altagracia label, Jaime Araujo (daughter of Bart and Daphne) said, "This is not just a kitchen-sink second wine. We choose wines that are still gorgeous, but just a little more up front, juicier and fruity to go into this blend. Wine Spectator: Juicy and lively, with lots of enticing licorice snap, plum sauce and blackberry compote notes bouncing through, carried by gutsy grip through the violet-tinged finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2032. Producer Information This was their philosophy as the proprietors of Araujo Estate and stewards of the historic Eisele Vineyard, and it is their guiding principle today with Accendo Cellars, the Napa Valley winegrowing venture founded in 2013. Inspired by the revolutionary Napa Valley wines of the 1950s, ‘60s and ‘70s, Accendo pays homage to an earlier era and marks a beginning of a promising new paradigm: to source grapes from some of the finest vineyard sites and terroir in Napa Valley; to make a wine of balance and restraint in the style of Napa Valley’s past wines; and to produce this wine with the commitment, energy and meticulous attention to detail that have characterized their past efforts. They are grateful to be joined by their daughter, Jaime Araujo Bézian, and son, Greg Araujo, as well as a small team of professionals they have worked with for many years, people who share their passion and, most importantly, their values. Applying what they know collectively about grape growing and winemaking, Bart and Daphne's aim is to create a world-class wine that expresses ecological diversity and focused stewardship. For years Napa Valley has nurtured and humbled them in ways they...

Producer: Koor Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Red Blend Country/Region: Armenia, Yerevan Koor Red is a traditional blend of indigenous Armenian varietals, grown in high-elevation vineyards of Armenia. The primary and signature grape, Areni, is elegant, fruity and subtle. It is well balanced with a more tannic grape, Sireni, giving Koor its defined structure. Producer Information Koor wines are a traditional blend of indigenous Armenian varietals, grown primarily in high-elevation vineyards of Vayots Dzor, Armenia. The name Koor – is a tribute to Armenian riverboat craftsmanship and wine merchantry. The illustration on the label shows the scene from Herodotus’ book “Histories”. Armenian merchants used to travel from Armenia to Babylon down the river Euphrates in boats made of wood and animal hides, with casks of palm-wood filled with wine and a few donkeys. In Babylon they would sell the wine, the wood, roll the animal skins, mount them on donkeys and head back to Armenia along the banks of the river. Armenian wine Koor from Highland Cellars has absorbed the centuries-old traditions of wine-producing Armenia and its creators’ love for this land, where, according to Bible, Noah planted the first vine at the foothills of Mount Ararat. The successful launch of Koor wine production has become possible due to several factors: the great desire of its founders – the natives of Armenia and their friends, to preserve the local winemaking traditions as well as to contribute to the revival of wine-drinking culture of one of the oldest wine regions in the world; involvement of high-class experts to the production, each of whom was responsible for a particular stage of wine production, starting from the selection of grapes and the area of its growth to the manufacturing techniques and wine labels design.

Producer: Bevan Cellars Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.6% Varietal: Cabernet Franc, Merlot Country/Region: United States, Oakville Offering a crazy perfume of lifted red and blue fruits, spring flowers, and incense, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a supple, seamless, mouth-filling texture, sweet tannins, and a blockbuster of a finish. Producer Information Bevan Cellars is a producer of Napa Valley and Sonoma wines based in Bennett Valley. It sources fruit from vineyards across the two major wine regions to produce small-lot wines made primarily of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Bevan Cellars' full-bodied, richly flavored wines score high with the press, making them highly coveted by collectors, and usually only available on allocation. The estate was founded by Russell Bevan and Victoria De Crescenzo in 2005. Before relocating to California, the two made regular trips to Napa Valley where they met and were mentored by esteemed winemakers Philip Togni and Bob Foley. In 1999, Bevan and De Crescenzo moved to California permanently, settling on an 3.5-hectare (8-acre) property in Bennett Valley. They planted just under a hectare to vine, and experimented with a ton of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Showket Vineyard in Napa Valley's Oakville appellation. In 2005, Bevan Cellars had its first commercial release. Bevan Cellars is most famous for its red wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, both varietal and as part of a Bordeaux blend. These wines include the Sugar Loaf Mountain Red, the Tin Box, and the McGah Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, all of which have been awarded 100-point scores by American wine critic Robert Parker.

After graduating from UC Davis with a degree in Viticulture and Enology in 2007, Scot joined the winery full-time, assuming the role of winemaker in 2012. It specializes in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, as well as selling fruit from the Shea Vineyard to other wineries in the area. The 155-acre (62-hectare) Shea vineyard was planted by Dick and Deirdre Shea in the late 1980s. The wider site covers 290 acres (120 hectares) on the hills southwest of Portland, Oregon. Here, the sedimentary sandstone soils and the cool maritime climate provide excellent growing conditions for Pinot Noir, which makes up the bulk of plantings. It’s full-bodied and phenolic with crisp acidity. Toasty finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2018 Chardonnay Karia rolls effortlessly out of the glass with exuberant scents of honey-drizzled apricots, fresh melon and mandarin peel with hints of lemon drops and marzipan. The medium to full-bodied palate is chock-full of stone fruit and savory layers, delivering a lively backbone and a spicy kick to the finish. Wine Enthusiast: This is an opulent, structured and mineral-driven white wine, richly layered and robustly built with weight and ample body. Brioche, honeycomb and baked apple meet a complement of fresh acidity and a lasting note of stone. The two came to legal blows in the 1980s over the Stag's Leap title, but an agreement was reached over the careful placement of the...

Producer: Silver Oak Cellars Ratings: D 95 WS 97 Vintage: 2018 Size: 1.5L ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: United States, California The 2018 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby in color with notes of strawberry, fresh carnation, black pepper and vanilla. This wine builds in strength and body across the mid-palate with a blackberry character on the finish and bright cherry return. With integrated tannins, it’s expressive yet luxurious with an even, balanced finish. Reviews: Decanter: The lovely ruby red colour is translucent, revealing a heady wine of blackberry, liquorice, vanillin, spicebush, and dried floral notes with savoury, toasty oak spices. This 2018 offers one of the more restrained and pretty bouquets of Silver Oak's Napa Cabernet in my memory. Very elegant on the entry, revealing a medium-bodied red wine with lovely cranberry fruit, plums, and currants, with a real depth to those fruit qualities framed by sculpted tannins that affix themselves onto the palate before giving way and resolving. Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant with trace amounts of Petit Verdot and Malbec. Aged in 85% new American Oak from The Oak Cooperage in Higbee, Missouri, the Duncans have owned it outright since 2015. The other 15% are second-use American oak barrels. They've been using the same cooperage for decades. The barrels imbue the Silver Oak wines with a classic vanillin quality, a nuance they always want to retain, even as they experiment with various toasts to produce smoother tannins in the toasting process. James Suckling: This structured and concentrated wine is spot on for the vintage. It’s very dense in color and aroma, saturated with ultra dark chocolate, graphite and blueberries on a firm texture of taut tannins that will need time to evolve. Producer Information Silver Oak Cellars is a Californian wine producer known for its wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon. It was founded to focus on that grape variety in 1972 by entrepreneur Raymond Twomey Duncan and winemaker Justin Meyer, and makes two key wines – one in the Sonoma AVA of Alexander Valley, and the other in Napa Valley. Both wines are prized for their combination of richness and ability to age. The Alexander Valley wine is varietal, and sees a mix of new and one-year-old American oak. The sibling is labeled Napa Valley and,...

Shortly after, their friendship was solidified over Chenin Blanc with the creation of their first wine "Pointe Blanc". Currently the Vinum Cellars team is working with over 10 grape varieties from Placer County Cabernet Franc to San Benito County Viognier. In addition to the Vinum Cellars partnership, they are employed as winemakers: Chris with Kathryn Kennedy Winery and Richard as a Napa winemaking consultant. "We are a small, California winery committed to crafting quality wines from single vineyards in California’s premium coastal and cool climate growing areas. “It is our basic winemaking philosophy to work with great grape growers to develop the best fruit in the vineyard. We pick the grapes at optimal ripeness and gently process the fruit. In the winery, we are experimental with yeast strains and use different cultures for each variety. Our belief in the use of older French Oak barrels allows the varietal fruit of our wines to be expressed. We are committed to experimenting and learning new winemaking methods while preserving an old world approach.” - Richard Bruno & Chris Condos

The structure and texture are in harmony, leading to a long, flavorful finish. Shows wonderful length and beauty. Producer Information Schrader Cellars is a cult Napa Valley winery founded by former antiques dealer Fred Schrader. Its focus is on premium Cabernet Sauvignon from single parcels and single vineyards – the most famous of which is the Old Sparky label, produced from the renowned Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard. Schrader entered the wine industry in 1992, founding Colgin Schrader Cellars with his then-wife Ann Colgin (who would go on to found Colgin Cellars). In 1998, he left to start his own label, bringing on board winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown and grape grower W. Andrew Beckstoffer. Schrader makes a range of wines from Napa, most of which are made from Cabernet Sauvignon. The most significant vineyard associated with the label is the Beckstoffer To Kalon vineyard in Oakville, which provides an excellent growing environment for Cabernet Sauvignon: high mineral content and superb drainage in the soil, lots of sun exposure, and a coastal breeze for cool nights. In 2008, Schrader Cellars became the first winery to receive 100-point reviews from US critic Robert Parker for the same wine across four consecutive vintages, a recognition that it received for two labels, both the Schrader CCS (from the initials of Carol Colesworthy Schrader, Schrader's partner) and the Old Sparky. The small production of Schrader Cellars is mostly distributed through its mailing list, which can have a wait time of two to three years. Schrader Cellars was bought by drinks giant Constellation in 2017 in a reported US$60 million deal.

Producer: Turley Wine Cellars Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml Varietal: Red Blend Country/Region: United States, Napa Valley It presents itself with great elegance and charm with precise aromas, imposing but very fine tannins and great length. Producer Information Turley Wine Cellars was established in the Napa Valley in 1993 by Larry Turley. Turley, a founder of Frog's Leap Winery in Rutherford, wanted a smaller, more intimate production size, and wanted to work with old vines. Turley sold his shares in Frog's Leap to begin his own winery with the help of his sister Helen Turley, a notable Californian wine consultant and winemaker. Helen acted as winemaker until 1995 when she went back to consulting and Ehren Jordan assumed the winemaking role. Jordan left Turley in 2013 when the position was taken by his protégé, Tegan Passalacqua. The estate makes around 30 wines from 35 different vineyards, split roughly in half between estate-owned land and long-term leases. The focus has been on reviving old vines. Some of the vineyards are more than 100 years old, including the Hayne and Ueberroth vineyards, planted in 1902 and 1885 respectively. The predominant grape here is Zinfandel, but Petite Sirah features heavily as well. Turley's style embraces the full-bodied, robust, and fruit-dominant potential of Zinfandel when grown in Californian heat. The approach has been to bring the fruit to full physiological ripeness which can lead to high alcohol levels – in hot years some of Turley's wines have been as high as 18 percent alcohol. Turley now has two wineries – one in Templeton in Paso Robles, and the other in St Helena in Napa. A cult following and moderate production volumes – around 16,000 cases a year – means that the majority of the wines are sold through mailing list with a two-year wait list. The company also has two cellar doors – one in Paso Robles, south of San Francisco, and one in Amador County, east of the city.
