Producer: Terrazze dell'Etna Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Nerello Mascalese Country/Region: Italy, Sicily Terrazze dell’Etna have made a wine from a native Etna variety known for its finesse and crisp character, this white is fresh and fragrant with notes of tropical fruit and a hint of rosemary. Perfect for lovers of mineral-driven, dry white wines. Producer Information The company was founded in 2008 thanks to the rigorous attention paid by the Bevilacqua family in the recovery of the environmental context, in the restoration of the ancient vineyards, the millstones, the stone terraces, testimony to the history of the places. Today it covers an area of approximately 40 hectares producing 11 types of wines. The original terraces recovered thanks to a naturalistic architecture intervention, are cultivated by hand: skilled local workers dedicate their time and dedication to the vineyard following its natural cycle. At the end of winter the sheep graze the grass among the vines, the teams hoe the earth made softer by the passage of the flock. Each phase, from pruning to tying the vineyards, is carried out with great manual skill, today as in past times the natural cycle is rediscovered in the characteristic Etna landscape. The Terrazze dell'Etna company was founded in 2008 when Nino Bevilacqua , an engineer from Palermo in love with his land, began a passionate work of recovery of the ancient and characteristic local agricultural environment: through the purchase of small plots of land abandoned and submerged by brambles . The company is located within the Etna Natural Park and climbs the slopes of the volcano on the north-west side. Terrazze dell'Etna was born with the aim of enhancing the terroir of the highest active volcano in Europe and its native vine , Nerello Mascalese . Today we export to various countries abroad, proud to be able to tell the story of these one-of-a-kind wines.

Producer Information Terrazze dell’ Etna winery was founded in 2008 by Nino Bevilacqua, an engineer from Palermo, when legendary Italian winemaker Riccardo Cotarella helped him to plan and build this extraordinary property. Stretching over 36 hectares including a mix of vineyards, olive trees, cherry trees, chestnut trees, and oaks, the estate grows all of its own grapes at altitudes that range from 600 to 950 meters a.s.l. — some of the highest-lying vineyards in the world. The name of the winery was inspired by the traditional terracing method (terrazza means terrace in Italian) that the Bevilacqua family revived when it purchased the farm more than a decade ago. Although the family also grows some international varieties for its classic-method sparkling wines, here the focus is on the native Nerello family of red grapes, Nerello Mascalease (the primary grape used in Etna wines) and Nerello Cappuccio. Farming here is only done by hand and the estate employs integrated farming techniques which encompasses upkeeping a variety of crops and livestock to enhance biodiversity. The soils are volcanic in nature, produced over the centuries by Mt. Etna in the vicinity. Terrazze dell’ Etna also practises a traditional approach to winemaking, with minimal intervention to create one of the appellation’s purest expressions.

Intense, rich, broad and fruity with hints of orange blossom and ripe apple. Dry, harmonic with pleasant acidity. Very pleasant aromatic persistence with an aniseed and almond aftertaste. Producer Information Benanti is a wine producer located on the slopes of Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily. It was established in the late 19th Century, and has been making wine from indigenous grape varieties in the Etnean terroir since. Today, Benanti has expanded to encompass vineyards in Pachino on the southernmost tip of Sicily and in Pantelleria, just off Sicily's western coastline. The estate's Etnean vineyards are situated on the north-, east- and south-facing slopes of Mount Etna. These reach as much as 3300ft (1000m) above sea level, and are planted to Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante and Minnella, which are used in Benanti's Etna DOC and Etna DOC Cru wines. The vines are anywhere between 12 and 100 years old and are planted in sandy, volcanic soils that are high in minerals. The unique Etnean terroir is also ideal for the cultivation of non-native varieties including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon, and Benanti has been growing these grape varieties for over a decade for the creation of its Sicily IGT wine blends. This wine range also encompasses a varietal Nero d'Avola wine and a Moscato di Noto wine, the grapes for which are sourced from the Pachino vineyards, where the terroir is typified by calcareous, clay soils and a warm Mediterranean climate. All of Benanti's vineyards are harvested by hand and the juice fermented in steel vats. From there, the wine is either allowed to mature in tanks before bottling, or, after malolactic fermentation, is placed in small oak casks to mature for between 8 to 12 months. The grapes for the Passito di Pantelleria are harvested and dried naturally either in the sun or in a temperature-controlled ventilated environment. In addition to the selection of red, white and dessert wines, Benanti is also known for the production of a series of grappas from indigenous Sicilian grape marcs, as well as an extra virgin olive oil.

Producer: Tornatore Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Carricante Country/Region: Italy, Sicily Enticing floral scents of spring blossoms and Spanish broom mingle with summer orchard fruit and wet stone. The tangy, savory palate boasts finesse and mineral tension, delivering juicy Meyer lemon, creamy pear, yellow apple and saline before a white pepper finish. Producer Information It is in the volcanic soils of Mt. Etna where the Tornatore family has set deep, centuries old roots. The Tornatores, one the oldest wine growing families on Mt. Etna, have lived in Sicily since 1680 and trace their Etna grape growing back to 1865. That heritage and the Tornatore’s profound respect and understanding of the land is showcased in wines that capture the essence of Etna, deftly balancing concentrated flavors, complexity, freshness and refinement. The Tornatore’s Etna roots have long grounded them in the flavors and patterns of their region, and it was this knowledge that inspired Francesco Tornatore to found his family’s winery in the town of Castiglione di Sicilia in 2010, nearly a century and a half after his great grandfather first planted vineyards on Mt. Etna. The region benefits from Sicily’s ample sunshine, but Mt. Etna’s high elevation also provides greater rainfall, moderating breezes and cooler temperatures. Etna’s unique nature means soils, microclimates and exposures change dramatically from site to site, creating a panorama of characteristics and possibilities in the vineyards. Tornatore blends artisan and modern winemaking to craft wines such as the Bianco and Rosso that display the full range of fruit and complex personality of Etna terroir, and single vineyard wines—Pietrarizzo with its high elevation and Trimarchisa with 40-year-old vines—that express the beauty and distinct character of their exceptional sites.

On the palate, notes of white peach, apple and citrus are accompanied by a long, mineral finish. Producer Information Tenuta delle Terre Nere is a Sicilian wine estate that cultivates vineyards on the slopes of Mount Etna. It is known for its high average vine age, including pre-phylloxera vines from which it makes exclusively DOC Etna wines. The flagship of the wine portfolio is the Prephylloxera La Vigna di Don Peppino. First released in 2006, it is a Nerello Mascalese-dominat blend with small portions of Nerello Capuccio. Prior to release, it is barrel-aged in French barriques for 16 to 18 months and is named after the winemaker who tended the vineyard for more than seven decades. Tenuta delle Terre Nere also porduces a range of Etna Bianco wines predominantly from Carricante, Catarratto, Inzolia and Grecanico. On top of this, the portfolio includes a range of single-vineyard wines that are produced from the highest-quality grapes of individual plots of the estate. Terre Nere's vineyards encompass 55 hectares (135 acres) in four different subregions across the island. Altitude here ranges from 1960 to 3280 feet (600 to1000m) above sea level, creating steep slopes within an undulating landscape. The steepest gradients are closely terraced and require manual farming practices. Many vines are approaching 100 years old with a handful of plots over 130 years having been planted prior to the phylloxera epidemic of the late 19th Century.

Complex bouquet of white flowers, citrus fruit, honey, saffron, with aromatic herbs and petrol hints. It is fresh, juicy and persistent on the palate with a sapid finish. Producer Information A bond with the land that turns into the desire to cultivate vineyards, to understand the terroir of the Etna and its infinite nuances, to make wine in one of the most fascinating areas on the planet. A place located between the sky and the earth, between the sea and the mountain, where the soil meets what is underneath. Palmento Costanzo was founded in 2010 by the Costanzo family, who wanted to get closer to the land that witnessed their growth: the slopes of Mt. Etna. The family restored an artisanal way of working and a direct understanding of nature, which are embodied by elegant and expressive wines that are authentically born from the «Muntagna», as the Etna is fondly called by its inhabitants. The adventure began following the purchase of a handful of hectares in Contrada Santo Spirito, located in Passopisciaro, in the province of Catania, on the northern region of the Etna. A centuries-old, ungrafted vineyard, one of the few that survived the phylloxera epidemic at the beginning of the '900 which destroyed most of the vineyards in Europe. And the restoration of the ancient Palmento made from lava stone: a remarkable proof of the key role played by viticulture within Etna production.

Taste: mouthfilling, round, good freshness, intense minerality; the finish immediately recalls the soil where it comes from. Producer Information Giovanni Rosso is an Italian wine producer that makes Barolo wines from the commune of Serralunga d'Alba. It produces a range of Barolo DOCG wines from some of its top crus, as well as Barbera d'Alba, Langhe Nebbiolo and Dolcetto d'Alba wines. Since the 1890s, the Rosso family has farmed vineyards at some of Serralunga's most historically important sites, including La Serra, Broglio, Damaino, Vigna Rionda, Cerretta and Sorano. The estate began bottling wines under the label 'Giovanni Rosso' in the 1990s and today, Giovanni's son Davide manages the estate. The estate consists of 12 different plots of vineyard land in Serralunga, as well as the Valle del Mondo vineyard in the commune of Roddino. The soil types vary across these sites, from calcareous clay and marl to limestone and sand. The crown jewel of the producer's vineyard holdings is its tiny plot in the Vigna Rionda vineyard, a site often considered to be Barolo's equivalent to the famous Romanée-Conti vineyard in Burgundy. The vines, which were planted in 1946, were acquired by Giovanni Rosso in 2011. The flagship wine is the Barolo DOCG from the Vigna Rionda vineyard. As a tribute to the vineyard's late owner, Tommaso Canale, the wine has a different label from the rest of the Giovanni Rosso range – an original design dating to the Canale family's acquisition of the vineyard in 1934.

Distillery Information Benanti is a wine producer located on the slopes of Mount Etna on the Italian island of Sicily.

Inviting nose with discreet aromatic notes of jasmine blossom and peach. Round and very juicy in approach, peach notes on the finish, long. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2019 Etna Bianco is a terrific and fundamentally food-friendly and immediate white made with Sicily's excellent Carricante grape. This is the estate's entry-level white, ready for an easy salad topped with grilled chicken or grilled shrimp, but don't be fooled by that accessible price tag. This bottle packs enormous charm and complexity with citrus, pomelo, white peach and generous mineral notes that add salty sensations to the finish. Vinous: The 2019 Etna Bianco is sweetly perfumed, presenting white flowers and ripe apple balanced by lime zest and crushed stone. Its silky textures envelop the palate with orchard fruits and cooling minerals, complemented by vibrant acids and taking on a richer sensation as notes of almond come forward toward the close. This tapers off floral and fresh, leaving a subtle twang of sour tropical citrus. Producer Information In its essence, the story of the Cottanera winery is about a return to one’s roots. The story begins with Francesco Cambria, who, in 1962, seeking a retreat from his career in Messina, bought 100 hectares of vines and hazelnut groves near his birthplace in Randazzo. Francesco cultivated hazelnuts and also initially sold grapes to the local cooperative, but with the arrival of DOC status for Etna in 1968 and hazelnuts losing market share, he soon decided to focus on grape growing for bulk wine production, replanting the hazelnut groves to vines. In the late 1980s, Francesco’s son Guglielmo decided to build a winery to make his own wine, rather than selling the grapes, and he was quite successful selling it “sfuso” in demijohns to local consumers and restaurants. The initial success of these wines pushed Guglielmo to point on quality wine production, so in the mid-1990s, he renovated his father’s vineyards to increase density and lower yields, and the first wines labeled as Cottanera were born.

Peach, honey and crushed stone rise to the forefront of the bouquet. James Suckling: Lovely aromas of pear pie with light vanilla and lime undertones. Full-bodied with tight, crisp acidity and a pear-puree and sherbet aftertaste. Producer Information Pietradolce was founded in 2005 and is set in Solicchiata, a village in the area of Castiglione di Sicilia on the North East slopes of Etna. They have chosen to plant only vines which are native to Etna, grown for the most part in the traditional form as bushes (alberello). This preference comes from the profound conviction that this is what is required by the land which offers them hospitality. Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante are and will continue to be the main players in their story. At the heart of their philosophy lies a deep love and respect for the land on which we depend, getting the best from traditional methods while using with wisdom the latest developments in grape growing and wine making without compromising the environment that gives life to their passion.

The domaine is made up of three estates: Clos Mireille, Château Romassan and Château de Selle, and covers wines falling under both the Bandol and Côtes de Provence appellations. Being Provence, rosé makes up an important proportion of the domaine's wines, and is made from classic Mediterranean varieties like Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsaut and Syrah. Domaines Ott also produce several red and white wines across the appellations and the estates. A fourth line, By.Ott, was added recently and comprises a rosé, white and red wine made in the refurbished Château de Selle winery. The estate was founded by Alsatian Marcel Ott, who arrived in Provence in 1896 and began buying vineyards in the post-phylloxera period when vineyard land was reasonably cheap. The three estates were added over the course of the 20th Century: Château de Selle was acquired in 1912, Clos Mireille in 1936, and finally, Château Romassan in 1956. Each of the three estates makes two wines, and all are bottled in the distinctively shaped bottles which represent the undulating landscape of Provence.

In April 2013, after years of searching, there appeared a unique opportunity to acquire the first three contrade on the northern slopes of Etna. From there a continually evolving project began with the reconstruction of the traditional dry stone walls of the terraces of Guardiola – the contrada (district) whose stunning beauty nurtures the underlying motivation and inspiration and whose name is given to the entire project: ALTA MORA. The name Alta Mora translates to “High, Black” representing the great heights and dark soils of Mt. Etna. The volcano itself is nearly 11,000ft high and vineyards are planted up to 4,000ft high! The Alta Mora project truly captures the essence of the Cusumano family. They believe in taking great risk to produce great, unique wines! Alta Mora grapes are 100% estate grown and hand harvested. The Cusumano family treats each wine as an artisanal piece of art and strives for pristine results in every bottle. To do so, they consult with renowned oenologist, Mario Ronco, who is equally ambitious about innovation and meticulous about winemaking techniques.
