It is fresh and elegant on the nose with aromas of red currant and raspberry evolving towards spicy notes. On the palate, the wine speaks of the terroir. It is precise, vibrant and delicate. The tannins are fine and silky. They show a magnificent unctuosity and a smooth, soft texture, demonstrating the maturity of the vintage. The wine’s beautiful length on the finish reveals the elegant character of this wine. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Composed of 72% Merlot and 28% Cabernet Franc and aged for 18 months in 70% new and 30% one-year-old barrels, the 2015 Canon is boldly fruited with blackberry preserves, black cherry compote, fruitcake, mocha and plum preserves with suggestions of Indian spices, licorice and black olives. Full-bodied and packed with ripe, rich dried berries and exotic spice layers, it has a firm, slightly chewy structure and just enough freshness (the pH is 3.78), finishing long and savory. Give it another 2-3 years of cellaring to soften its edges and allow its flavor spectrum to fully emerge, and drink it over the next 20 to 25+ years. James Suckling: Seductive. The nose draws you in deep: It’s like staring into a well of pristine dark cherries, dark plums, blackberries and mulberries. All the oak is perfectly subsumed. The palate’s flawless with immense depth and power and it’s so balanced as to appear to float. Immaculate fresh dark-berry and plum flavors. Silky and deep, ribbon-like finish. Perfect. Best from 2022. Producer Information The different plots of vines total 54 acres of very uniform soil types, which is the first hint that Chateau Caonon is unusual with respect to the rest of the Saint Emilion area. The Subltle combination of limestone containing fossilized starfish covered by a thin layer of clay left behind by a prehistoric lake, constitute an ideal environment for the grape varieties, highlighting the expression of their characteristics. Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: A medium depth of darkly pigmented ruby red in color. Aromas are of restrained & slightly chalky red plum fruit. The palate has very fresh acidity which lifts the delicate red-fruit, but leaves the fine tannins a little angular. Alcohol is well in balance, but the acidity & tannins currently leave the finish short & a little astringent Peter Moser: Deep dark ruby with opaque core and purple tinge to the narrow rim. Dark berry fruit, notes of liquorice lie alongside hints of nougat, precious wood and fine orange zest. Medium-bodied, sweet cherry fruit, balanced and elegant, subtle fruit sweetness on the finish; a versatile food companion. Producer Information Château Dassault is a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate located just north of the town of Saint-Emilion, in the Bordeaux wine region. The estate was formerly known as Château Couperie and its name was changed following its acquisition by French aviation billionaire Serge Dassault in 1955. Although not featured in the original 1955 classification of Saint-Emilion, after approximately ten years of investment and improvements the estate eventually gained Grand Cru Classé status in 1969. Renowned enologist, Michel Rolland has acted as consultant winemaker at the estate since 1975, and in 1995 Laurence Brun took on the role of general manager. Today, Château Dassault is a member of Dassault Wine Estates, a collection of three Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé estates that also includes Château La Fleur and Château Faurie de Souchard. The Château Dassault vineyards cover just over 24 hectares (60 acres) on the northern hillsides of the Saint-Émilion plateau. These slopes are composed largely of sand and limestone soils and are primarily planted to Merlot (75 percent), with smaller plantings of Cabernet Franc (22 percent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5 percent). These three grape varieties – sourced from vines averaging 35 years old – make up the Château Dassault Grand Cru wine, with the youngest Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines harvested for the estate's second label, Le 'D' de Dassault....

Producer: Château Angélus Vintage: 2021 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Saint-Emilion Beautiful depth here, with currants and blackberries, as well as hints of fresh herbs and wet earth. Medium-to full-bodied, layered and long, with depth and beauty. Producer Information Château Angélus is a well regarded wine estate based in the Saint-Emilion region of northeastern Bordeaux. The property sits on a coveted spot just west of Saint-Émilion town, on a gentle, south-facing slope on the Saint-Émilion plateau. It produces a sumptuous, long-lived Merlot - Cabernet Franc wine that is regularly highly rated by critics. The château was given its name due of the presence of nearby church bells (an "angélus" is a Roman Catholic prayer bell) that could be heard chiming from the original plots of vineyards. The current château now hosts a framework of small bells on its rooftop. The site that is now Château Angélus was added to the small estate of the de Boüard de Laforest family in 1920 and, by 1985, the estate had 20 hectares (50 acres) of vines. Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, took over the company reins at this time and began to introduce more modern approaches to viticulture and winemaking. He also ushered in a considerably more sustainable approach to viticulture – something of a rarity in Saint-Émilion at the time. The estate currently boasts a total of 39 hectares (96 acres) of vineyard. This is broken down into roughly equal portions of Merlot (50 percent) and Cabernet Franc (47 percent) with three percent Cabernet Sauvignon – proportions that are broadly reflected in the eponymous "grand vin" (the estate's flagship wine bearing the château name).

Producer: Château Pavie Ratings: JD 97 JS 96 Vintage: 2021 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Lovely aromas, ripe blackcurrants, damsons and plums, milk chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Reviews: Jeb Dunnuck: The 2021 Château Pavie was one of the few wines in the vintage that got a big "wow" in my notes. Based on 52% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, it's a full-bodied, dense, powerful, beautiful 2021 with classic Pavie darker, richer fruits, notes of spicy oak, chocolate, and violets, ripe velvety tannins, and a great finish. It's not at the 2019 or 2020 level, but don't hold that against it. This is pure brilliance in 2021 and one of the wines of the vintage. James Suckling: Deep black and blue fruit with cocoa and tar character. Compact and full-bodied with firm, ripe tannins that are very textured and interwoven into the wine. This has a lot of structure to go a long way. Yet it remains in balance with finesse. 52% merlot, 30% cabernet franc and 18% cabernet sauvignon. Producer Information Château Pavie is a critically acclaimed – if sometimes controversial – wine estate in the Saint-Émilion appellation of northeastern Bordeaux, on the right bank of the Dordogne river. Originally named a Premier Grand Cru Classé (B) in the 1955 classification of Saint-Émilion wines, it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) status in the 2012 iteration. It is known for its Merlot-dominant grand vin. The 37-hectare (91-acre) Pavie estate lies just east of Saint-Émilion town, sitting on the southern edge of the Saint-Émilion plateau. The estate vineyards have a coveted position, enjoying both the limestone bedrock of the plateau and the south-facing slope that both drains excess water and gets excellent exposure to the sun. The site is believed to have been planted with vines since Roman times and, over the centuries, has seen many owners and changes in its boundaries. The current property coverage was heavily influenced by the land purchases (and divisions) of Ferdinand Bouffard in the late 19th Century. Bouffard bought a number of vineyards and châteaux, laying the foundations not just for Pavie but several of its neighboring estates, although he continued to manage them as separate entities. By the early 20th Century, Château Pavie had been divided into three, with Pavie Macquin and Pavie...

Producer: Château Monbousquet Ratings: JD 94 VN 92 Vintage: 2012 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru A good amount of blackberry and black olive with a medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Balanced and rather delicate. Reviews: Jeb Dunnuck: An incredible achievement from this team, the 2021 Château Monbousquet comes from the lower plain, which was devastated due to frost and mildew, yet they've nevertheless brought more fruit and texture than those with the best terroirs in the appellation. Dark fruits, cassis, chocolate, and spice all give way to a medium to full-bodied, round, opulent beauty with solid tannins and a great finish. It's a gorgeous wine in the making. Vinous: The 2021 Monbousquet offers lovely fruit density in the mid-weight, slightly nervy style of the year. There's terrific energy and vibrancy running through the 2021. Rose petal, lavender, spice and mint perk up the finish. The 2021 is delicate, nuanced and super-classy. Producer Information Château Monbousquet is a property in Saint-Émilion particularly known for its lush, ripe, modern-styled wines. Long regarded as an underachiever, quality has increased greatly in the past quarter century and the wines are now some of the best in the region. Since 2006, Monbousquet has been ranked as a Grand Cru Classé. The estate comprises 32 hectares (79 acres) with all but a small parcel planted to red varieties. Proportionally, the vineyard is made up of 60 percent Merlot, 30 percent Cabernet Franc and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. As with Cheval Blanc and Figeac, the soils are largely gravelly, which suits the high proportion of Cabernets. The vineyard was completely redrained in 1993 when Gérard Perse purchased the property. The grand vin, and second wine Angélique de Monbousquet, are both fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The grand vin sees 18-24 months in new barriques, while the Angélique is made from younger vines and aged for 18 months in one-year-old barriques. Both are then bottled unfined and unfiltered. The varietal composition of the wines reflects the vineyard plantings. Monbousquet also makes a citrusy, dry Bordeaux Blanc from a small parcel of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, Semillon and Muscadelle. When this parcel was planted in 1994, these varieties were unheard...

There’s a good core of black cherry, hedgerow fruit and crushed rocks. Intense and focussed, this finishes with smooth tannins and an array of salty minerals. Reviews: Falstaff: Opaque ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Fresh plums and hints of caramel with a touch of herbs and tobacco. Medium-bodied, red berries on the palate, finely woven acidity and light tannins with a salty finish. Vinous: The 2021 Laroque is a standout. Bright and racy, with tremendous persistence, Laroque stakes its claim as Saint-Émilion's brightest rising star. Bright limestone accents run through a core of red/purplish fruit, rose petal, mint and white pepper. Producer Information Château Laroque, with its mighty 12th century tower, is an imposing feature in the Saint-Emilion area. Located to the south of the village of Saint-Christophe-des-Bardes, the estate appears as a defensive stronghold watching over Saint Emilion. Built on a plateau of limestone rock, from which the estate took its name, this outstanding location has been owned by several families, each one of them making their contribution and imparting an added touch of soul to the place. The restoration of the cellars carried out in the 19th century was the work of Maurice Dufaure de Rochefort, a keen enthusiast of Saint-Emilion wines. Once the new cellars had been completed, he refocused the economic activity of Château Laroque solely on vine-growing. After the phylloxera epidemic and the hard times that ensued, the estate and its wines were given a new lease of life in 1935 thanks to the unstinting work of its new owners: the Beaumartin family. Over the decades that followed, with the appointment of estate manager Bruno Sainson, Château Laroque rediscovered its boldness and identity and emerged as one of the finest growths in Saint-Emilion, rising to the rank of Grand Cru Classé in 1996. This fresh momentum was maintained by Xavier Beaumartin, at the helm of the property from 2004 and succeeded in 2018 by his nephew...

Power and dense blackberry flavors are impressive. Producer Information Château Larcis-Ducasse is a Premier Grand Cru Classe B wine producer based in the Bordeaux appellation of Saint-Émilion. The château and surrounding land are located on the Côte Pavie, where the site lies adjacent to the esteemed Château Pavie. Like Pavie, Larcis-Ducasse produces a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend. It dates to the 16th Century, and it has been owned by the Gratiot Alphandéry family since the 1940s. The estate spans around 11 hectares (27 acres), primarily planted to Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc. The low-yielding vines are on average 35 years old and are planted on a range of different soil types, from alluvial sand deposits to limestone, clay, and chalk. A south-faceing aspect maximises sunshine exposure into the canopy allowing grapes to ripen to thier full phenolic potential. At harvest, grapes are handpicked in the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in cement tanks prior to malolactic fermentation in oak barrel. It is then barrel-aged for almost two years in French oak, two thirds of which is new. Movement of juice and wine in the cellar is powered by gravity to prevent excess oxidation. Larcis-Ducasse was one of the first in the region to have a gravity cellar, established in 1898. The château's second wine is called Murmure de Larcis Ducasse. It is currently owned by the Gratiot-Attmane family.

Producer: Château La Dominique Vintage: 2021 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Medium to deep purple-black colored, the Dassault wafts out of the glass with a very pretty perfume of lilacs, cinnamon toast and fragrant earth over a core of plum preserves, Morello cherries and raspberry leaves, with a touch of fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate has lots of grace and freshness, framed by very soft tannins, finishing long and earthy. Producer Information Château La Dominique is an estate in Saint-Émilion known for its Merlot-based red wine. It was rated Grand Cru Classé in the official 1955 classification of Saint-Émilion. Located close to the Pomerol border, the vineyard covers approximately 29 hectares (71 acres). The majority of plantings are Merlot (89 percent) with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and an addition of Malbec in 2019. Here, a gentle slope and sandy gravel soils with slighlty more clay than its neighbor Cheval Blanc create the terroir. In the winery, movement of juice and wine is done gently, powered by gravity to aid the preservation of phenolics. Grapes undergo 12-24 hours of cold maceration, and then vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The grand vin is then aged oak barrels, a majority of which are new for 16 months. Records for La Dominique date back to 1690, although it was first mentioned as a wine estate with its current name in 1785. The name is derived from Dominica in the Caribbean where the owner made his fortune. The estate's reputation dipped in the first half of the 20th Century, but in 1969 it was bought by industrialist Clement Fayat who also owns Château Fayat in Pomerol and Clément-Pichon in the Haut-Médoc. Sustained investment has brought about a return to form.

Reviews: Wine Advocate: Deep purple-black in color, the 2018 Valandraud is still sporting a fair bit of oak on the nose, with the cedary notions giving way to a profound core of Black Forest cake, stewed plums and boysenberry preserves, plus suggestions of espresso, clove oil, unsmoked cigars and charcuterie with a waft of Chinese five spice. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with rich black fruit preserves, framed by sturdy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and tinged with exotic spices. James Suckling: This is really rich and intense with beautiful blackberry, violet and blueberry aromas that follow through to a full-bodied palate with extremely polished tannins that caress your palate. Love the texture and purity to the wine. Fantastic. Producer Information Château de Valandraud is a producer in Saint-Émilion classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B. The Merlot-dominant grand vin is part of a relatively large portfolio which includes a number of red wines made from the classic Bordeaux blend, as well as a couple of white wines made from Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. Offers a persistent, silky finish. Producer Information Château La Serre (sometimes also written as Château la Serre) is a seven-hectare (17-acre) Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé wine estate situated a short distance east of Saint-Émilion town in northeastern Bordeaux, on the so-called Right Bank of the Dordogne river. The château is known for its Merlot-dominant grand vin, and also produces a second label: Les Menuts de la Serre. The estate takes its name from its 17th Century owner Romain de Labaym, Sieur de La Serre, who was responsible for the construction of the château. In 1956, it was purchased by Bernard d'Arfeuille and in the 1970s his son Luc d'Arfeuille carried out extensive renovations. The estate has been run by his nephew, Arnaud d'Arfeuille, since 2013. It was named a Grand Cru Classé in the original Saint-Émilion classification of 1955 – a title it has retained through every subsequent iteration of the ranking. Merlot is the most prolific grape variety in the vineyard, occupying 80 percent of the total hectarage. Cabernet Franc makes up the remainder. The vines are on average 35 years old and are planted on south-facing limestone slopes. The vines are handpicked and the château uses laser optical sorting in the winery. After a cold pre-fermentation and subsequent alcoholic fermentation in concrete cuves, Château La Serre ages its wine for 15 to 18 months in oak barrels, roughly half of which are new oak.
