Producer Information HdV is a family venture between Hyde Vineyards of Napa Valley and Aubert & Pamela de Villaine of Burgundy, France. Aubert de Villaine, married to the Hyde’s cousin Pamela F. de Villaine, is one of Burgundy’s most recognized individuals. Born and raised in the rich traditions of France’s greatest winemaking techniques, Aubert brings to the partnership the foundation upon which the venture bases its theories and practices. Larry Hyde came to the Napa Valley over forty years ago with a great love of wine and the soil. In 1979, Larry left his job as an apprentice at some of Napa’s finest wineries to purchase and transform the Carneros soils into what is now known as Hyde Vineyards. Twenty-five years later, Hyde Vineyards has become renown for the unique expression of its Carneros terroir. Joining our venture in 2002, our winemaker, Stéphane Vivier, brings with him skills in vineyard management and winemaking from around the world. Born and raised in France, Stéphane’s skills were cultivated in the vineyards and cellars of Pommard, Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet and then expanded through his work in New Zealand and the Sonoma Coast Appellation. HdV is bottled under the coat of arms of the historic de la Guerra family from which Pamela de Villaine and the Hydes descend. The de la Guerra Family is one of the oldest winemaking families in California and traces its winemaking history back to a gold medal received at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Fair. The partnership feels that this coat of arms symbolizes the sense of tradition, family, and winemaking history that the new venture embodies in its philosophy.

Finishing with warming clove and a hint of gunpowder and flint, this wine expresses sophisticated elegance from start to finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Chalky at first, the 2016 Chardonnay takes its time to reveal citrus blossoms, lime peel, crushed stone, apricots and pure lemon and apple fruit with dusty, minerally nuances. The palate walks a wonderful line of pure, ripe fruits and fresh citrusy and rocky accents. It has a silky texture, tangy lift and a very long, nuanced finish. This has the stuffing and structure to be very long lived. James Suckling: This is very dense and serious with freshness and powerful acidity that gives it intensity and focus. Goes on and on with so much floral and sliced-lime flavor and hints of white flowers, pear blossom and minerals. So beautiful to drink now, but will improve with age. Shows intense mineral and sea salt notes on the long finish. Producer Information Patz & Hall is a Sonoma-based wine producer, specializing in the production of small-lot Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from single vineyards around California. The collection is sourced from more than 30 different vineyards in Napa Valley, Carneros, Russian River Valley, Mendocino County, Sonoma Coast and Santa Lucia Highlands. The estate was established in 1988 by James Hall, Anne Moses, and Donald and Heather Patz. Collectively, they established contracts with growers around northern California to create a full portfolio of site specific wines. In the vineyard, grapes are hand-picked to preserve phenolics and prevent excess oxidation. Fermentation takes place in both stainless steel and French oak barrels. Patz & Hall has a unique stave wood program where it dries, seasons, and ages its own Burgundian oak staves for three years before the barrels are coopered, around 18 months longer than normal. The percentage of new oak the winery uses on each wine varies between 50 and 70 percent. In 2016, Patz & Hall was purchased by Chateau Ste. Michelle of which in turn was purchased by Sycamore Partners Managment in 2021. A total of around 20,000 cases of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced annually.

This is a beautiful, full-bodied Chardonnay to drink over the next decade or more. Mark Aubert continues to set the bar incredibly high for the world-class quality of his Burgundian-styled, remarkable Chardonnays...As I indicated last year, Aubert is at the top of his game, and it is hard to believe any Chardonnay winemaker in the world is turning out a half-dozen Chardonnays at this qualitative level year in and year out. Vinous: The 2014 Chardonnay Larry Hyde and Sons opens with strikingly beautiful aromatics. Sensual, layered and polished, the Hyde boasts fabulous purity, nuance and class. Apricot pit, honey, candied lemon, crème brulee, wild flowers, mint and lightly buttered notes meld into the supple, radiant finish. This is a great example of Hyde. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is coated with silken-textured tropical and savory layers, complemented by a harmonious line of freshness and finishing impressively long and mineral laced. Producer Information Kistler Vineyards is a wine producer in northern California's Sonoma County. Its considerable reputation is thanks largely to its robust, buttery Chardonnay wines, which have established Kistler as a cult winery since the 1980s. The company was founded in 1978 by Steve Kistler and remains a family-owned and operated winery. It is a relatively small producer, making just 35,000 cases annually, much of which is sold through its significant mailing list. Kistler's focus is the Burgundy varieties, making 10 vineyard-designated Chardonnay wines and four designated Pinot Noir wines. The fruit comes from three AVAs within Sonoma: Sonoma Coast, Sonoma Mountain and Carneros (which overlaps with the Napa Valley AVA). Kistler is seen as one of the pioneers of the buttery, fruit-driven Chardonnays that have come to be closely associated with California. In the winery, the use of small, new-oak barriques and malolactic fermentation have been used over the years to achieve this style of wine. Recent trends have seen a move away from this style, however, and Kistler is beginning to experiment with making more restrained styles of the variety.

Located near the Hyde Estate winery, by virtue of chilly afternoon breezes, it is indeed among the coolest sites on the Napa side of the Los Carneros AVA. This section is planted to Corton-Charlemagne clone on St. George rootstock. A barrel sample, it is being aged in 50% new French oak barrels... This vintage no doubt played to the strengths of this site beautifully in 2019, delivering a very impressive wine of amazing singularity and intensity. Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Producer Information Abreu Vineyards is a wine producer in the Napa Valley, in northern California. The winery specializes in single-site Cabernet Sauvignon blends from four distinct sites in the St Helena and Howell Mountain sub-appellations. Founder and owner David Abreu has a long history in the viticultural industry, having previously managed properties for some of Napa's most famous estates, including Harlan Estate and Screaming Eagle. His own wines have reached cult status as well, and several have been awarded 100-point scores by Robert Parker. The estate was established in 1980 with the planting of the Madrona vineyard in St Helena. Over time, Abreu acquired vineyard holdings at three additional properties: Cappella, one of the oldest vineyard sites in St Helena, Howell Mountain vineyard in the AVA of the same name, and finally Thorevilos, which is wedged between St Helena and Howell Mountain, and was planted in 1990. Most of the Abreu Vineyards' wines are predominately made of Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The fruit is picked in the morning to retain freshness, and is hand-sorted twice prior to fermentation. All wines go through malolactic fermentation before being aged in new French oak for two years before bottling. After an additional two years in bottle, it is released to the public, and often sold out exclusively to Abreu's mailing list. The wines are ripe but structured and rich but not over-the-top.
