It's the most popular and widely available Pinot from the winery and should find a place in every Pinot-lover's cellar. Producer Information Patricia Green Cellars is located in the Ribbon Ridge district of Yamhill County on the 52 acre estate purchased in 2000 by Patty Green and Jim Anderson. The winery, and thus the two friends, are noted for producing a tremendously broad selection of Pinot Noirs from far flung vineyards representing some of the better sites in the Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains, and the Eola Hills growing regions. We look to produce Pinot Noirs that show the distinctions of the sites we work with. All of the vineyards we either maintain or purchase fruit from are extremely well-tended sites that seek to grow the best fruit possible through rigorous attention to detail on every single vine. To ensure that our sites truly show the characteristics of the soil, micro-climate and clonal material none of them use irrigation. In the winery the philosophy of attention to the smallest details is further extended all the way from the fermenting must to the final bottling process. All of our wines at all of their points of evolution are handled and manipulated as little as possible while being smelled and tasted on a regular basis. Our selection of barrels has been limited to one cooper noted for producing some of the best made Pinot Noir barrels in the world. As we produce as many as 15-16 different bottlings of Pinot Noir under our own label each vintage the decisions we make about the quality of every single barrel is quite rigorous ensuring that each bottling represents the best possible wine from each vineyard with which we work.

Producer Information For years, vintners have coveted a stretch of land in the western end of Santa Barbara's Santa Rita Hills AVA known to have the perfect microclimate, soils, and exposure to grow world-class Pinot Noir. In 1999, fulfilling a long-held dream of owner Bob Davids, this sought-after stretch of land became Sea Smoke Vineyard. At Sea Smoke, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on the south-facing hillsides of our estate vineyards. On summer evenings, the Santa Ynez River canyon funnels a cool maritime fog layer (sea "smoke") across our hillsides, slowing the ripening process and providing the extended maturation period essential to the development of top-quality Pinot Noir. Our shallow clay soils are planted to French clones on vigor-reducing rootstocks, resulting in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, and our artisinal approach to winemaking results in wines that are a reflection of the unique land on which they are grown. We believe that Sea Smoke's rare geography and commitment to quality have produced wines of exceptional complexity and grace. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.

Umami, savory wild mushroom with notes of Rainier cherry and spruce tips roll over the mid-palate followed by a lingering pop of vanilla bean on the finish. Producer Information Twomey Cellars are a Californian wine producer, located in the heart of Napa Valley. It produces a portfolio of Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc from top vineyards and coastal growing regions in California and Oregon. The Duncan Family established Twomey in 1999 with the purchase of Soda Canyon Ranch Vineyard in the Napa Valley. The estate now has two wineries: one in Calistoga dedicated to Merlot production and one in the Russian River Valley for the production of Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. The portoflio is led by a range of single vineyard Pinot Noir as well as a regional collection of the variety from Anderson Valley, Russian River Valley and the Dundee Hills. Pinot Noir is barrel-aged in French oak for an average of 18 months depending on the vintage. The winery is one of a few in Northern California to practice the labor-intensive winemaking method of soutirage traditionnel whereby wine is racked from one barrel to another by gravity, without the use of a pump. This process is used for Twomey's Merlot to soften tannins and clarify the wine.

The '08 Estate has harmonious and silky texture while the tannins are soft and perfectly integrated giving this wine elegant and graceful frame. The finish is long and fresh, full of red fruit and spices. Producer Information De Ponte Cellars is the site of one of the oldest vineyards in the Willamette Valley. This scenic property up in the Dundee Hills was acquired by the Baldwin family in 1999 and soon De Ponte Cellars Winery was born. The name De Ponte comes from the matriarch of the Baldwin family, Shirley Baldwin. De Ponte, her maiden name which is of Portuguese origin, honors her father who grew grapes and made his own wine in California's San Joaquin Valley. De Ponte released its first Pinot Noir to critical acclaim in 2001, reflecting the dedication of the Baldwin Family and its French Winemaker Isabelle Dutartre to produce a remarkable wine. Dutartre learned the art of winemaking in her home of the Burgundy region of France and each vintage reflects her uncompromising commitment to quality and tradition. In addition to its Pinot Noir, De Ponte is known for its Melon. The Melon grape is not only rare in Oregon, but also in the whole U.S. The original growers thought the vines would produce Pinot Blanc grapes, though they were mistaken. It turns out the varietal they planted was Melon de Bourgogne, which is identical to the grape used in France's Muscadet which is produced in the Loire Valley of France. The result is a delightful white wine which has generated a loyal following for De Ponte.

They were instantly wowed and captivated by the quality of wine from this young winegrowing region. Soon after, they made the decision to invest in a 100-acre piece of vineyard land in an untried area of the northern Willamette Valley, in what is now the Yamhill-Carlton AVA. Their ambition was to grow grapes for some of the best winemakers in Oregon and beyond. More than 30 years later, that continues to be their greatest passion.

Thankful to have been graced by prominent Napa families in its early days, such as the Franks and the Rombauers, Napa Cellars now paves its own path, building on the rich heritage to craft wines that are a classic, unmistakable interpretation of the Napa Valley. Napa Cellars now owns three vineyards: Vista Montone Vineyard is located in South Napa Valley, and provides the fruit for Napa Cellars Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Main Street Vineyard is located in St. Helena, Napa Valley, and provides the fruit for Napa Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon. Salvador Vineyard is located in Oak Knoll AVA, north of Downtown Napa, and provides fruit for the Cabernet Sauvignon. The founder of Napa Cellars, Charlie Woods, started a tasting room in a geodesic dome that still welcomes guests today. This warm and casual tasting room is the perfect first or last stop for any visitor to Napa. Conveniently located on Highway 29, the friendly tasting staff encourages wine novices and connoisseurs alike to try their well-worth-the price Napa Valley wines. The winemaker for Napa Cellars, Joe Shirley, grew up in Napa Valley but never became interested in wine until he crossed paths with an influential wine buyer in England. Upon returning home, Joe dove into the wine industry head first. Joe realized he was meant to live a life at the intersection of scientific precision and passionate artistry. This life exists now in the vineyard, in the cellar, and ultimately in the glass, where a sense of place-and his expression of that place, comes to life. “I don’t try to put a big winemaker signature on my wines,” Joe says. “The terroir of the vineyards here is so distinct, so extraordinary; I simply guide the wine toward the purest interpretation of the land.”

A rich and full mouthfeel leads a layered finish of vanilla and dark chocolate. Producer Information Herzog family has been making wine for a long time. They trace their winemaking origins back to Philip Herzog, who made wine in Slovakia for the Austro-Hungarian court more than a century ago. Philip’s wines were so appreciated by Emperor Franz-Josef, that the emperor made Philip a baron. The Baron Herzog wines-a line of premium yet moderately priced California varietals-are named to commemorate the honor. Baron Philip made both kosher and non-kosher wines. The kosher wines were made in a separate cellar and tasted remarkably like his non-kosher wines. Indeed, the wines were made in the same basic manner. However, the kosher wines required a Jewish, Sabbath-observant cellar crew. In 1985, the Herzog family decided to expand their winemaking operations to California, where they make wine under two separate labels: Baron Herzog and Herzog Wine Cellars. After twenty years of renting space in various wineries, the family was finally able to build its own state-of-the-art winery just south of Santa Barbara, in the town of Oxnard. Here, under the supervision of head winemaker Joe Hurliman, Herzog Wine Cellars has created a center for high-end contemporary winemaking in a tradition that dates back nearly six centuries.

They share a long standing passion for Chenin Blanc and fondness for the more obscure grape varieties. Shortly after, their friendship was solidified over Chenin Blanc with the creation of their first wine "Pointe Blanc". Currently the Vinum Cellars team is working with over 10 grape varieties from Placer County Cabernet Franc to San Benito County Viognier. In addition to the Vinum Cellars partnership, they are employed as winemakers: Chris with Kathryn Kennedy Winery and Richard as a Napa winemaking consultant. "We are a small, California winery committed to crafting quality wines from single vineyards in California’s premium coastal and cool climate growing areas. “It is our basic winemaking philosophy to work with great grape growers to develop the best fruit in the vineyard. We pick the grapes at optimal ripeness and gently process the fruit. In the winery, we are experimental with yeast strains and use different cultures for each variety. Our belief in the use of older French Oak barrels allows the varietal fruit of our wines to be expressed. We are committed to experimenting and learning new winemaking methods while preserving an old world approach.” - Richard Bruno & Chris Condos

Fresh raspberry and bright strawberry flavors are concentrated, yet balanced, in this pretty, floral wine. The finish is smooth, with silky tannins, mineral notes, and lingering fresh fruit. Producer Information Cakebread Cellars, in the Rutherford AVA of Napa Valley, is one of the best-known family-owned and operated producers in California. It is best known for wines made from Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon and is a popular feature of US restaurant winelists. Founded in 1973 by Jack and Dolores Cakebread, it was expanded in 1982 through the purchase of adjacent land. Cakebread now has 15 estate vineyards and has not grown any more since 2005. The winery produces around 175,000 cases a year. Cakebread's flagship wines are the Napa Chardonnay and Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is also a range of single-vineyard and estate wines. These include an Anderson Valley AVA Pinot Noir and a Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc. In 2008, the winery became Napa Green Certified, as well as being a part of the Napa River Restoration Project. The goal in the vineyard is to get fully ripe grapes, but with a lower value Brix to ensure a more restrained style of wine than Napa is famous for. The Chardonnay is 90-percent barrel-fermented, with roughly one third of that taking place in new oak. A small portion is allowed to go through malolactic fermentation. Cakebread Wineries recently opened a second label in Walla Walla, Washington called Mullan Road Cellars. It released an inaugural 1500 cases of a Bordeaux-style blend in 2014.
