Producer: Chateau Cap L'Ousteau Vintage: NV Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Haut-Medoc This wine, already soft and generous, is ripe with black-currant fruits and balanced acidity. Ripe Merlot contrasts with the structured Cabernets. It is full, rich and ready to drink. Producer Information Chateau Cap l’Ousteau is located at Lamarque, close to Margaux and Saint-Julien. The Chateau dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Among its prestigious owners over the years, you’ll find Monsieur de Bethman who was mayor of Bordeaux, and the Clauzel family. It is on this privileged site that the 78 hectares of the estate Chateau du Cartillon are cultivated. Cap l’Ousteau is the second wine of Chateau du Cartillon and is given the same attention as its prestigious elder. This allows the younger vines on the estate, when reasonably blended with the older vines, to show their full potential. The vineyard occupies a remarkable position on two hilltops whose thick layer of gravels is an eminently favorable environment for winegrowing. The nature of the terroir, the traditional approach to managing the vineyard and the work in the vinifying cellar make the wine from Chateau Cap l’Ousteau a typical, classic example of the appellation.

It's smooth, rich and extremely good quality, with an oak smokiness evident but well integrated. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 la Tour Carnet has an earthy nose with tobacco and underbrush over a core of warm plums, kirsch and tea. The medium-bodied palate is refreshing, elegant, juicy and soft with a savory finish. James Suckling: For a Haut-Médoc, this has an impressive depth of blackberry and blueberry character, together with a fine vanilla-oak note that beautifully complements the supple and finely nuanced, medium body. I love the crisp and delicately herbal, dry finish. A blend of 62 per cent merlot, 35 per cent cabernet sauvignon, two per cent petit verdot and one per cent cabernet franc. Better from 2020. Producer Information Château La Tour Carnet is a Left Bank Haut-Médoc estate and one of the ten châteaux designated as Fourth Growths in the 1855 Bordeaux classification. The estate, and some of the structures of the château, date back to the 12th Century. La Tour Carnet makes both red and white Bordeaux blends but only the red wines carry Haut-Médoc on the label – the white carries the broader Bordeaux Blanc AOC. In 1999, Carnet was bought by French businessman Bernard Magrez, who owns a number of wine labels in and out of Bordeaux, including the Pessac-Léognan winery Château Pape Clément. Magrez increased the property size of Carnet as well as the percentage of Merlot in the vineyards. The estate, which lies west of the Saint-Julien appellation, just outside the town of Saint-Laurent-Médoc, now has 73 hectares (180 acres) under vine. Plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are almost equal and are rounded out with small plots of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The proportions of Merlot has also increased in the Château La Tour Carnet wine itself – a trend becoming more popular on the Left Bank. The plantings of white grapes are relatively small and include the varieties Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon and Sauvignon Gris. The palate is rich and flavoursome underpinned by fine-grained, silky tannins. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Belgrave has a nose of crushed black currant, chocolate-covered cherries, warm plums and lilacs with touches of garrigue and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied with firm, ripe, grainy tannins and wonderfully pure black fruits with lovely floral accents, it finishes long and perfumed. James Suckling: A dense and layered red with wet earth and blue fruits. Sweet tobacco, too. Soft tannins give this full-bodied wine a juicy richness and decadence. Plump mouthfeel. So good now but better in two or three years. Producer Information Château Belgrave is a Bordeaux wine estate and classified fifth growth château in the Haut-Médoc appellation, close to the border with Saint-Julien. Its grand vin is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant red blend with Merlot and, historically, Cabernet Franc, though this has recently been replaced with small amounts of Petit Verdot. The estate was classed as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 classification of the Médoc and Graves, but was known as Château Coutanceau at the time and throughout the 19th Century. "Bellegrave" began appearing on bottles in 1845, when the estate was restructured by Bordeaux négocaint Bruno Devès. He built new winery facilities, tank rooms and the château as it stands today, constructed around a hunting pavilion that dated back to the reign of King Louis XV. Château Blegrave finally became the name of the estate in the early 20th Century. Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2016 Belgrave is a blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot and 3% Petit Verdot and was picked from 28 September until 20 October. It has a generous bouquet with small dark cherries, blueberry and crushed violet aromas, quite Margaux-like in style. There is certainly good intensity here. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening: blackberry, mint and cedar. From the start there is fine tension and there is very impressive structure towards the finish, plus a long saline aftertaste. This is a very strong follow-up to the 2015 Belgrave and indeed, it may surpass it. James Suckling: Extremely enticing aromas of ripe plums and peaches with spices, such as nutmeg. The wine is generally elegant and aromatic, in a similar vein to the wines of Margaux some 10km (six miles) north of the estate. Most vintages can be approached at a relatively youthful age. The organically farmed vineyard covers 80 hectares (200 acres) on a south-facing gravel hill of well-drained, white pebbles which reflect the sun back onto the fruit – an aid to ripening. The estate is planted to 65 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, with 30 percent Merlot and 5 percent Petit Verdot. A second wine, Moulin de La Lagune, is produced from younger vines which do not make the grade for the grand vin. Since 2004, a third wine, Mademoiselle L, has been made from another 30-hectare (74-acre) plot further down the La Lagune slope. It is a 50-50 blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and is intended to be drunk young. In the gravity-fed winery, the grapes pass along three separate sorting tables for strict selection before being dropped in to one of 72 thermo-regulated stainless steel vats, which vary in size between 2200 and 20,000 liters to cater for different vineyard plots. Producer: Château Cambon la Pelouse Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.7% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Haut-Medoc Producer Information Château Cambon la Pelouse is a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionelle wine estate based in the Haut-Médoc commune of Macau, north of Bordeaux city and just south of Margaux. It is one of the oldest estates in the region with a history dating to the 17th Century and produces a number of red wine labels. It was acquired by Australian wine giant, Treasury Wine Estates (owners of the likes of Penfolds and Wolf Blass), in 2019. The château and its estate lies just a few hundred meters north of Fifth Growth estate, Château Cantemerle. Both lie to the southwest of Macau town, albeit not far from the southern limits of the Margaux appellation (Château Giscours sits just over two kilometers, or 1.2 miles, to the northwest of Cambon La Pelouse). The 35-hectare (86-acre) Cambon La Pelouse vineyard is planted to 50 percent Merlot, 45 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and five percent Petit Verdot with vines averaging around 30 years old. The soils are composed of sandy gravel with rocks and stones. Grapes are hand and machine harvested, sorted twice, and undergo a so-called cold macerateration in stainless steel tanks for six to eight days prior to fermentation. The wines remain on skins for a total of around two to three weeks, including fermentation. The grand vin is barrel-matured for around 20 months in French oak before bottling, around half of which is new. Some 15,000 cases of Château Cambon la Pelouse are produced annually. The château produces a second wine, Château Trois Moulins, composed of roughly 50 percent Merlot, around 30 percent Cabernet Sauvignon and 20 percent Cabernet Franc. The estate also owns a small, half-hectare (1.25 acre) plot in central Margaux and uses fruit from this parcel to produce a third label, L’Aura de Cambon, made from equal portions of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Prior to its acquisition by Treasury Wine Estates, the estate had been owned by Jean Pierre Marie since 1996.

Producer: Château Cantemerle Ratings: WA 92 JS 95 Vintage: 2019 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Country/Region: France, Bordeaux Regularity is the key word when speaking of this vintage. A deep color sets the stage, followed by a complex and delicate aromatic expression. Then, there is a lively sensation in the mouth, with a good reserve of energy. Finally, a long finish, fine and precise. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Opening in the glass with notions of rich berry fruit, licorice, cedar, violets and loamy soil, the 2019 Cantemerle is medium to full-bodied, with a fleshy core of fruit, lively acids and powdery tannins that gently assert themselves on the finish. This shut down a little after bottling (some 11 months ago at the time of writing), but it is beginning to bounce back to reveal a wine of real charm and character. Best after 2025. James Suckling: A red with lots of currant, blackberry, fresh-herb and tobacco character. Hint of mushroom, too. It’s full and layered with polished, chewy tannins and a bright and fresh finish. Very long and focused. Give it time to come together. Very classic character here. Best after 2026. Producer Information Located in the southern part of Bordeaux Medoc peninsula near the villages of Macau and Ludon, Chateau Cantemerle, designated a great growth in the famous 1855 Classification, has deep gravel soil. Thanks to its unique terroir, Cantemerle produces complex, well-balanced, and refined wines. After belonging to the Villeneuve (1579-1892) and Dubos (1892-1980) families, the chateau was acquired in 1981 by Groupe SMA, a large mutual insurance company in the construction and civil engineering sector. The estate's long history is reflected in the chateau's distinctive architecture and the magnificent grounds that surround it. Cantemerle exudes romantic charm and its wine has a magical feel to it!

Producer: Château Sociando-Mallet Vintage: 2004 Size: 1.5L ABV: 12.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Bordeaux The palate is powerful and complex. A wine of great finesse and an impressive length in the mouth. Producer Information Château Sociando-Mallet is a wine estate located in the northern Médoc (the wines are bottled under Haut-Médoc appellation), and generally regarded as the equal of many classed growths. Although not featured in the 1855 Bordeaux classification, the property was rated a fifth growth in wine trading site Liv-Ex's unofficial 2011 version. It has the reputation of making full-bodied, classically structured wines with firm tannins and great aging potential from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The property is situated in the commune of Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne, just to the north of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, and its nearest neighbour is Château Charmail a few hundred meters to the west. It was bought by the négociant and winemaker Jean Gautreau in 1969, when it was in a state of disrepair and had only 5 hectares (12 acres) of vines. A new winery was built, other buildings were renovated and the vineyard was replanted, with additional plots bought from neighbors. The property now covers 110 hectares (270 acres), of which 85 hectares (210 acres) are planted to vines. The main blocks are situated to the east of Saint-Seurin village around the château and estate buildings on the Baleyron hillock, a typical Médoc bank of gravel on a clay subsoil close to the Gironde estuary. Numerous other small parcels are dotted around the village. Plantings are split almost equally between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with just a small amount of Cabernet Franc. Wines are vinified in temperature-controlled concrete and stainless steel vats. Lots chosen for Sociando-Mallet are aged for 12 months in new French oak. La Demoiselle de Sociando-Mallet, the second wine, is made from vats not selected for the main wine, and is aged in around 25 percent new oak. The range is completed by the Jean Gautreau cuvée which was introduced in 1995. This is a selection of the best barrels left over from the grand vin, and typically contains more Cabernet Sauvignon than Sociando-Mallet. Jean Gautreau, for decades associated with the estate, died in November 2019. He is succeeded by daughter Sylvie and grandson Arthur. The château ranked highly...

On the nose high-toned red fruits combine with notes of earth, mushroom & coffee. The palate is quite flat with developed mushroomy fruit & ripe, high-toned notes. The wine is quite light-bodied, but structured. Acidity is fresh & alcohol is balanced, but the finish is firm & angular with the fruit currently quite closed. Producer Information Château de Camensac is a Bordeaux wine estate in the Haut-Médoc region, just over the border from Saint-Julien. In classic Bordeaux tradition, the estate portfolio boasts two wines: the eponymous Château Camensac and a second wine, La Closerie de Camensac. The estate has around 172 acres (70ha) of vines with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot planted. Vineyards are largely continguous; the railway line divides the main blocks from the "Lagrange" plots, which are adjacent to Château Lagrange in Saint-Julien. Soils are predominantly gravel (with a zone of sandy gravel) and planted to Cabernet Sauvignon; areas of chalky clay around the borders of the property are where most of the Merlot blocks are situated. Harvest is undertaken manually and, after sorting, fermentation takes place in concrete and stainless steel tanks. After blending, the grand vin is aged for 17 to 20 months in French oak barriques, of which around 40 percent are new. Château Camensac was acquired in 2005 by the Merlaut family (well-known Bordeaux négociants who also own châteaux Chasse-Spleen and Gruaud-Larose). It had previously been owned by the Rioja-based Forner family of Marqués de Cáceres fame.

Producer: Château Cambon la Pelouse Ratings: WE 92 JL 90 Vintage: 2014 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Haut-Medoc The 2014 Cambon la Pelouse is showing better on the nose in bottle than in barrel with plenty of redcurrant and blackberry fruit, a touch of espresso just in the background. Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: This is a tight and firm wine that will take some time to develop. The fruit, an almost equal blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, is all present and will fill out over the next few years. It is a serious dense wine with great aging potential. Jeff Leve: Fully developed, the wine is medium-bodied, round, fruity, and still holding an oaky edge on the nose and dark currant palate, this is not a wine to age. Producer Information Château Cambon la Pelouse is a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionelle wine estate based in the Haut-Médoc commune of Macau, north of Bordeaux city and just south of Margaux. The château produces a second wine, Château Trois Moulins, composed of roughly 50 percent Merlot, around 30 percent...

Producer: Château La Tour Carnet Vintage: 1989 Size: 750ml ABV: 14% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Bordeaux Deep purple-black colored, de la Tour Carnet jumps out of the glass with notes of dark plums, fresh black currants and kirsch and notes of bay leaves, pencil lead, camphorsuckle and wood smoke. The medium-bodied palate has a great core of tight, muscular black fruit with a firm, grainy texture and well-knit freshness, with a long and savory finish. The grand vin Château La Tour Canet has a production of roughly 15,000 cases annually. The estate also produces a generally Merlot-dominant second wine: Les Pensées de La Tour Carnet.

Reviews: Wine Enthusiast: Close to the Gironde estuary in the town of Lamarque, this vineyard is planted with 70% Merlot, which has produced a luscious, ripe wine with warm blackberry fruits. Young tannins give a rich structure that will soften. Producer Information Chateau du Cartillon is located on the itinerary which follows the Medoc Chateaux in the Bordeaux area, in the village of Lamarque, halfway between the Margaux and Saint-Julien vineyards. In the heart of the Haut-Medoc appellation, the 69 hectares property adjoins three prestigious representatives of the Moulis appellation : the Chateaux of Poujeaux, Maucaillou and Chasse Spleen. The quality of the soil, which has long been recognised as such, gave the Chateau du Cartillon a reputation as early as the 19th century. In 1850 this Cru Bourgeois was clearly mentioned in the first edition of the Fe´ret Guide. At that time the property was owned by Monsieur Alexandre de Bethmann (1805-1870) who was Mayor of Bordeaux from 1867 to 1870. It is reported in the Guide : "located on a gravely terrain, producing one of the best wines in Lamarque".
