It makes some of the most famous wines in the whole of the Rhône Valley, from a classic southern Rhône blend that includes Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, as well as the lesser-known Counoise and Cinsaut varieties. The estate reportedly dates back to 1549 when Pierre de Beaucastel bought a barn and a plot of vineyards in the region and inscribed his family's crest onto the walls. It is now a modern hospital, with the original buildings serving as a museum. The wines are made at the Hospices winery from around 60 hectares (150 acres) of vineyard holdings which have been donated to the charity over many decades. On the palate it is medium to full bodied with interesting acidity and very high quality tannins, while aromas of red fruits, earth and metal together with tobacco and spices dominate. The aftertaste is long, complex with constant evolution. Producer Information Domaine Skouras is a Greek wine estate, based in Nemea on the Peloponnese peninsula. Founded in 1986, Skouras produce a range of wines based on the Agiorgitiko grape variety as well as from international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon. The flagship wine from Skouras is the Megas Oenos, which combines Agiorgitiko from Nemea with a smaller amount of Cabernet Sauvignon from Corinthia. It is aged in new French barriques for 18 months. Skouras also produce a cuvée Labyrinth which is a blend of Megas Oenos from consecutive vintages. There are a few white wines in the portfolio, made from Chardonnay and Viognier as well as some native varieties. The domaine comprises of vineyards in Nemea and in the non-PDO region of Argolida, although Skouras brings in grapes from carefully selected local growers as well. The winery itself is in Nemea, and provides a modern, state-of-the-art backdrop to Skouras' wine tourism.

The domaine was founded in 1872 by the Ponsot family in Morey-Saint-Denis. Since then, Ponsot has looked into various counterfeiting measures, and in 2009, the bottles were fingerprinted with unique bubble codes that were impossible to reproduce.

The French king fell in love with the location’s beauty and quality of wine. Producer Information Guillaume Demoulin is the fourth generation of his family to farm the beautiful vineyards of Chateau de Trinquevedel. His great-grandfather, Eugène, bought the eighteenth-century chateau in 1936—an opportune decision that coincided with the establishment of Tavel's A.O.C that same year. However timely, the vineyards were in terrible disrepair, and Eugène had an enormous task ahead. By 1960, the grapes were finally producing wine worthy of the Demoulin's own bottlings, and the chateau had at last been restored to its former glory. Louis XIV was among the first to sing the praises of Tavel's delicious and memorable rosés, which only stands to reason given the appellation’s grand cru reputation today. Tavel is the only A.O.C. entirely made up of rosé, which prohibits any whites or reds from wearing the label of this Southern Rhône cru. No more than sixty percent of the final blend can be made up of the noble Grenache. In other appellations where rosé is made, it is often regarded as an afterthought— most of the grapes are frequently sourced from lesser parcels, as the lighter maceration of the grapes is seen as "wasting" precious juice. In Tavel, even the best parcels may contribute to the blend, yet another aspect that makes this cru so special.

The operation has therefore been managed by the Cazals family for more than 120 years, now headed by Delphine Cazals, 4th generation. The particularity of this House is the property of an exceptional plot in a delimited area: Le Clos Cazals, with an area of 3.70 hectares of old vines in the village of Oger, classified Grand Cru. The entire Cazals vineyard consists of 9 hectares in 4 municipalities: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Vertus and Villeneuve. One part is therefore classified Grand Cru (including Clos Cazals) and the other part is classified Premier Cru. Producer Information Château Minuty is a Provence winery in Saint-Tropez best known for its rosé wines. Minuty was one of the Cru Classés of Provence designated in 1955 in an effort to classify top producers in the region and create a tiered system similar to Bordeaux. However, the classification never secured as much credibility as Bordeaux, and instead recognizes longevity over quality. Château Minuty's rosé wines are some of the best-selling rosés in the United States. The estate has 65 hectares (160 acres) of estate vineyards in Saint-Tropez and 15 hectares (37 acres) in nearby Ramatuelle on the slopes of Val de Rians. Farming practices follow many organic techniques such as not using pesticides or herbicides, although Minuty has no formal organic certification. Grenache is the most important variety here, although Cinsaut, Syrah and Mourvèdre also feature in blends and also appear as varietal wines. In 2009, construction was completed on a new tank room with temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks and a total capacity of 400,000 liters. Each individual vineyard block has a designated tank and is fermented separately. Minuty mostly makes Provence-designated wine but also has a range of Var IGP offers as well. The Rosé et Or, Prestige Rosé and the M Rosé have become Minuty's most recognizable wines, and are distributed in the US by Treasury Wine Estates. The success of the rosé has led to more Grenache plantings which, along with Rolle, replaced Ugni Blanc and Carignan in the vineyards in the 1990s.

Reviews: Wine Advocate: The 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Baron includes a higher proportion of Syrah than the regular cuvée, being a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre. The estate considers Syrah something of specialty, and this does appear to have a bit more substance to it, delivering ripe black cherry and allspice flavors. Full-bodied, rich and velvety, it finishes with ample length. James Suckling: Very striking nose of crystalized violets. Ripe and slightly sweet entry, but then the powerful tannins make themselves felt, turning the wine in a decisively dry direction. Slightly bulky, but with plenty of depth and some complexity at the finish. Sustainable. Producer Information The Domain Chateau Fortia, is one of the oldest of Chateauneuf du Pape. The estate is situated in the "grenade" neighborhood where the lands are cultivated with vines since the 17th century. It is in the 19th century that Paul Antoine de Fortia, son of Hercule Paul de Fortia developed the vineyard and constructed new buildings; a notorized act of 1815 mention a castle named "la Fortiasse". You can't help but feel the sense of the history of Chateauneuf du Pape, when you see the beautiful buildings at Fortia. Since 2016 Sandra Rochel has been the winemaker and essentially the vineyard manager at Chateau Fortia. During which time she oversaw the conversion to certified organic status for a portion of their holdings. She has broad winemaking experience, having made wine in the Rhone and even Hawkes Bay in New Zealand.

Producer Information The Château de Parenchère, whose foundations were laid in 1570 by Pierre de Parenchières (governor of Sainte-Foy-la Grande), is situated at the easternmost edge of the Bordeaux appellation, next to Bergerac. Renovated by Raphaël Gazaniol in 1958, the estate consists of 378 unbroken acres (153 hectares), 156 (or 63 hectares) of which are under vine. In January of 2005, Mr. Per Landin took over as majority shareholder in the estate. Today, Raphaël’s son Jean and granddaughter Julia strive to meet the challenge of producing fine Bordeaux wines, demonstrating that great wines can come from lesser-known terroirs.
