Producer: Ferrari Vintage: NV Size: 750ml ABV: 12.5% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: Italy, Trentino Bright golden yellow color with a fine mousse. In the nose we smell nice notes of toasted bread, flowers and yellow fruits, nice and broad. In the mouth, the Ferrari Spumante is nicely dry and powerful with a perfect mousse, beautiful white fruit, pear and peach, citrus, lively, nicely toasted and a very good length. Producer Information The Spumante house Ferrari from Italy has become the sponsor of Formula 1. An unprecedented step that for the first time a non-champagne house is allowed to sparkle on the Formula 1 podium and also a reward that beautiful Italian Spumantes (often made from the same grape and an equivalent Terroir) can be of equal quality (or higher) than their French counterparts. This set is a must-have for every Wine and Formula 1 enthusiast. Like the other Ferrari wines, it is made exclusively from Chardonnay, harvested from vineyards at an altitude of between 300 - 700 meters with exposure to the southeast to southwest, so nicely located in the afternoon sun. The Special Edition Formula 1 is therefore also a Blanc de Blanc. Yields are kept limited and the grapes are harvested by hand in September. To make a really nice quality, only the first part of the pressing is used, the rest would give too much vegetality and sharpness. The bottle fermentation lasts no less than three years to create a perfect mousse. A delicious glass, nicely balanced, soft, with a wonderful length and nice acidity.

The company was formed in 1902 by Giulio Ferrari, with the intention of taking on the best wines of Champagne. In doing so, Ferrari became one of the first Italian estates to make substantial plantings of Chardonnay. Giulio Ferrari had no children, so in the 1950s, passed the company onto Bruno Lunelli, owner of a wine shop in Trento. Over the next couple of decades, Lunelli increased production from 9000 bottles a year to 100,000. The third generation of the Lunelli family runs the business today. The range includes Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noir and rosé styles. The Maximum range is the estate's premium selection, although the Perlé range of vintage wines are some of Ferrari's most famous wines. Ferrari works with around 500 vine growing families in the mountains of Trentino, as well as farming some of its own vineyards. The wines are made in Italy's largest sparkling wine facility, which cellars millions of bottles in extensive underground cellars.

Producer: Ferrari-Carano Vintage: 2019 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon Country/Region: United States, California This wine is full-bodied and rich with layers of boysenberry jam, currants, leather, maple and cedar aromas complemented by black cherry preserves and warm clove flavors. Firm tannins and a touch of toasty mocha linger on the finish. Producer Information Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery is a California producer with facilities located in Dry Creek Valley and vineyards across five other appellations. It produces wine from a range of popular California varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon being the most prevalent. Ferrari-Carano began its history in 1979, when casino and hotel proprietors Don and Rhonda Carano bought a small 12-hectare (30-acre) plot in the Alexander Valley. In the early '80s they established a winery and released their first commercial bottles in 1987 under the name Ferrari-Carano – Ferrari being Don's grandmother's surname. Ferrari-Carano now sources fruit from around 20 vineyards in five California AVAs: Carneros, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, and Mendocino Ridge. Sustainable farming practices are used in the vineyards, including the recycling of organic matter to be reused as mulch, interplanting other crops to inhibit soil erosion, and promoting biodiversity in insect and animal life to facilitate natural nutrient recycling. The flagship collection of Ferrari-Carano is the Classics selection, made up of single varieties including Sauvignon Blanc (used to make the Fumé Blanc), Viognier, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. The other collections in its portfolio are Vineyard Selects, Spirit of Italy, the premium Prevail, and dessert wines. Among the more familiar grapes found in California, Ferrari-Carano uses Sangiovese in its Siena red blend under its Spirit of Italy range. It also releases a premium Bordeaux-style red blend titled Trésor. The winery was bought by Foley Family Wines in 2020.

Producer: Moët & Chandon Vintage: NV Size: 750ml ABV: 12% Varietal: Champagne Blend Country/Region: France, Champagne The Moet and Chandon Imperial Brut champagne is golden straw yellow with green highlights, and has the vibrant intensity of green apple and citrus fruit, the freshness of mineral nuances and white flowers, and the elegance of blond notes like brioche, cereal, fresh nuts. Its palate is a generous combination of sumptuousness and subtlety, with white-fleshed fruits like pear, peach, and apple, and the soft vivacity of citrus fruit and nuances of gooseberry through fine bubbles. Producer Information Moët & Chandon, based in the so-called "Champagne capital" of Épernay, is easily the most famous house in the Champagne region. It is one of the largest too, comprising 1150 hectares (2850 acres) of estate vineyards plus more from growers, 28km (17 miles) of cellars and a production capacity of 60 million bottles a year. The house was founded by Claude Moët in 1743. However, his grandson, Jean-Remy Moët, is credited with having brought Champagne to a wider audience and, by the 19th Century, the house was recognized both domestically and internationally. In the 1970s and '80s, Moët & Chandon expanded its empire beyond Champagne, partnering first with Cognac house Hennessy and then with fashion giant Louis Vuitton, forming the well-known luxury conglomerate Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy –often referred to simply as LVMH. Today, the group owns several other famous wine brands, including Krug and Veuve Clicquot in Champagne, Château Cheval Blanc in Bordeaux, and Cloudy Bay in New Zealand and Cape Mentelle in Western Australia. Moët's house style is fresh and fruit-forward, and the non-vintage Brut is dominated by Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, with a smaller amount of Chardonnay. Grapes are drawn from 800 different parcels from 230 of the villages in Champagne. This wide range of terroirs to draw from means that blenders have more control over the finished wine, and despite the massive output every year, Moët's wines are remarkably consistent. The majority of processes in the winery are controlled by machine – unsurprising given the scale of production. Moët & Chandon's range is straightforward, comprising of non vintage brut, rosé and demi...

Producer: Krug Ratings: WA 96 WE 96 Size: 750ml ABV: 12% Varietal: Champagne Country/Region: France, Champagne The 168ème Édition of Krug Grande Cuvée was composed around the harvest of 2012, a beautiful year with a low yield due to the panoply of meteorological events the region endured. Frost, rain, storms and hale all hit the vineyards of Champagne in winter and spring 2012, followed by the driest ripening season since 1974, resulting in 20% fewer grapes. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Krug's NV Grande Cuvée 168ème Édition is a classic in the making, wafting from the glass with aromas of dried fruits, pear, toasted nuts, orange zest, honeycomb and freshly baked bread. Medium to full-bodied, generous but incisive, it's deep and elegantly fleshy, with a beautifully refined mousse and an enveloping core of fruit that's complemented by the characteristic Krug patina of nutty complexity imparted by barrel fermentation. Even if this is more open out of the gates than the 2011-based 167ème edition, the 168ème edition is also the more concentrated and intense of the two. It's based on the 2012 harvest, complemented by fully 42% reserve wines—a blend of 198 wines from 11 different vintages dating back to 1996. Wine Enthusiast: In line with the producer’s practice of numbering each bottling of its flagship Grande Cuvée, this is the latest release. Following the house style, there is some marvelously impressive Pinot Noir in this rich, full blend. That gives the Champagne its luxurious feel, contrasting with the tension from the dryness and minerality. This bottling, which shows maturity, is ready to drink. Producer Information The House was established in Reims in 1843, by Joseph Krug, a visionary non-conformist with an uncompromising philosophy. Having understood that the true essence of Champagne is pleasure itself, his dream was to craft the very best Champagne he could offer, every single year, regardless of annual variations in climate. Paying close attention to the vineyard’s character, respecting the individuality of each plot and its wine, as well as building an extensive library of reserve wines from many different years allowed Joseph Krug to fulfil his dream. Producer Information Krug is one of Champagne's most prestigious houses and its wines are among the most collectible and expensive in Champagne. The house was founded in 1843 by Joseph Krug, a native of the Mosel region in Germany, who had moved to France and spent some time working for Jacquesson, the leading Champagne house of the time. Krug's philosophy was that every Champagne should be the best possible expression, and eschewed the common idea of a hierarchy of Champagne. Instead, he began to craft a premium wine from a reserve of wines vinified separately by the growers themselves, a wine that would eventually become the Grande Cuvée. This wine sits alongside the likes of Dom Pérignon and Cristal at the top of the Champagne tree, and is a blend of 120 different wines from 10 or more vintages from the so-called Krug Library (a repository of still wines held prior to blending and refermenting in bottle). It is aged for six years, and is noted for its complex brioche and spice characters. Today, the wines are still vinified by individual plot, and are stored in the Krug Library. Every year, the chef de cave heads a tasting committee which decides on the final blend. This library holds reserve wines anywhere from the current vintage to those 50 years old and are produced from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier, which are all grown at Krug and used throughout the collection. Krug also makes several other Champagnes, including a rosé non-vintage and a Krug vintage, which is only produced in the best years. Krug is part of the wider Moët Hennessy group of companies. While the house is headquartered in Reims, a new winery is being developed at the Clos d'Ambonnay site and is due to open in 2023.

In the late 1950s, Robert-Jean de Vogüé, a maverick and non-conformist, had the vision, courage, and stamina to redefine luxury sparkling wine. He was convinced that the road less traveled led to an exciting future for quality sparkling wine, so he set off on an epic journey to find unexpected new lands in Argentina. What he found there, in Mendoza–a high-altitude semi-desert in the Andean foothills – was the perfect terroir for pure, expressive, fruit-driven world-class fizz. He decided his hunch – export the savoir-faire, not the bottles – was right. And so, it began in 1959, when Maison CHANDON was founded on the tradition of innovation. CHANDON Argentina, born of Robert-Jean de Vogüé’s original vision, broke ground in 1959 in Mendoza in the Andean foothills. From there, a world of unique sparkling wines opened up. Napa, California was the next territory to beckon, after Robert-Jean became convinced of the potential of this region for quality sparkling. The idea was considered revolutionary both in France and in America. The United States had always been a minor market for wines and US demand for California sparkling wines even smaller. CHANDON California was founded in 1973, betting the emergence of a sparkling-wine maker, and began producing under the...

In the bouquet juicy red fruits like currants and cherries, notes of freshly baked brioche and toasted bread. On the palate fresh, full-bodied with red berries. Silky tannin gives a smooth structure. Perfectly balanced with lively freshness and delicate residual sweetness. Producer Information Taittinger is one of Champagne's most famous houses. Based in the city of Reims, Taittinger is known for its Chardonnay-dominant cuvées, the pinnacle of which is the blanc de blancs prestige cuvée, Comtes de Champagne. The family-owned estate has approximately 290 hectares (710 acres) of vines, around half of which is planted to Pinot Noir, with Chardonnay and a small amount of Pinot Meunier making up the rest. These vineyards contribute 50 percent of Taittinger's output, with the rest coming from growers who have historical relationships with the house. Taittinger's Brut Reserve NV is composed of 40 percent Chardonnay, with the two Pinots making up the remainder. This makes for a fresh and reasonably delicate house style. In addition to this, Taittinger makes a range of Champagne styles, including a demi-sec, several rosés and an array of single-vineyard, vintage and otherwise limited-edition wines. The Comtes de Champagne is Taittinger's top wine, and was first made in the 1952 vintage. The grapes are mostly sourced from grand cru vineyards across Avizé, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger. Oak is used sparingly to impart flavors of brioche and grilled almonds, rather than to add any tannins or weight. The bottles are kept for at least 10 years in the underground chalk galleries beneath the former Saint-Nicaise Abbey in Reims (now the Taittinger headquarters). Taittinger's flagship is considered one of the most consistent blanc de blancs (effectively a Chardonnay-only Champagne) from the region. Silky smooth tannins and a touch of cinnamon linger on the finish.

Producer: Piper-Heidsieck Vintage: NV Size: 750ml ABV: 12% Varietal: Champagne Blend Country/Region: France, Champagne Producer Information Piper-Heidsieck is one of the most famous houses in Champagne. It is known for its structured, fruit-driven house style made predominantly from Pinot Noir, with smaller portions of Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier. Piper-Heidsieck's top wine is the Rare Millésime, made from a Chardonnay – Pinot Noir blend with the former dominating. The wine is full-bodied and well-structured, and is aged for seven years in the cellars before release. Rare is only made in the very best years – fewer than 10 vintages have been released in the past 30 years. The winery is home to temperature-controlled cellars and a host of reserve wines which are used to keep the house style consistent from year to year. Grapes are vinified by grape variety and by individual plot to allow for more control in the blending process. Grapes for the Piper-Heidsieck Brut, Demi Sec Sublime and Rosé Sauvage come from around a hundred cru vineyards in Champagne. The Piper-Heidsieck Vintage Brut is produced from between 15-20 grand and premier cru plots, and is usually a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, without any Pinot Meunier. The company has its origins in the cloth- and wine-trading company Heidsieck and Co. which was founded in 1785 by Florens-Louis Heidsieck. The brand itself came about in 1838 after the marriage of Madame Heidsieck and Henri-Guillaume Piper, but went into a period of decline for the next hundred years. It was resurrected in the mid-20th Century, and has gone on to become one of the world's most recognizable Champagnes.

The range includes Blanc de Blancs, Blanc de Noir and rosé styles. The Maximum range is the estate's premium selection, although the Perlé range of vintage wines are some of Ferrari's most famous wines. Ferrari has had considerable international attention – in 2015, it won the Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championship, beating the Champagne houses Charles Heidsieck and Louis Roederer. Ferrari works with around 500 vine growing families in the mountains of Trentino, as well as farming some of its own vineyards. The wines are made in Italy's largest sparkling wine facility, which cellars millions of bottles in extensive underground cellars.
