The distillery is sited within an unused munitions factory from World War Two, sited in the Lowlands. Girvan has an impressive production capacity of fifteen million litres annually. The Ladyburn distillery was built within the Girvan complex in 1966, though it shut in 1975. Aside from producing a blending component, Girvan also releases single grain whiskies, many of which have received wide acclaim. In 1995, the single grain Black Barrel was released in France, Spain and Portugal.

Distillery Information Located in the Highland town of Invergordon, established by Invergordon Distillers Ltd. and operating since 1961 is the Invergordon grain distillery. It is one of only six dedicated grain distilleries in Scotland, and is famous for their Coffey stills, from which they produce some of the finest grain whisky in the world. The Navy withdrew from the town in 1956, leaving a peak of unemployment after which Invergordon was ready to welcome some industrial infrastructure. Oddly, it is based in a region associated with malt distilling, though the combination of easily accessible cereal crops and its port set it as an ideal site for a grain distillery. After a series of owners, Invergordon was absorbed into Whyte & Mackay in 1993, and the majority of liquid distilled goes into Whyte & Mackay blends. Producer Information Duncan Taylor is an independent bottler and blender of Scotch whisky, founded in Glasgow in 1938, and has ownership of one of the largest privately-held collections of rare scotch whisky casks. In 2001 Euan Shand, formerly of GlenDronach, acquired the firm, and in 2014 the company moved its headquarters to Huntly in Aberdeenshire, close to Speyside, to focus on the production and marketing of its own brands. Over time the company built strong ties with distillers and distilleries all over Scotland, with the company bringing their own casks to the distilleries to be filled with new make spirit. Palate: Marmalade, melted milk chocolate, and flamed herbs. Finish: Brown sugar and black pepper. Distillery Information The Teaninich Distillery is one shrouded in mystery. Founded in 1817, the Highland single malt whisky producer today has an annual capacity of 10.2 million litres and distills for brands including Haig Dimple, VAT 69 and Johnnie Walker. Despite its size and stature (it’s Diageo’s third-largest whisky distillery, covering more than 20 acres), there’s not much out there about Teaninich as a whisky in its own right – which is rather a shame as the liquid exudes as much character and body as its two illustrious near-neighbours: Dalmore and Glenmorangie. It was Captain Hugh Munro, head of the local clan, who set up Teaninich more than 200 years ago. Fun fact: in 1887 it became the first distillery north of Inverness to have electricity and a telephone. Teaninich remained in Munro family hands up until 1904, when Robert Innes Cameron, formerly a major shareholder, became the sole owner. After his death in 1932, the site was acquired by Distillery Company Limited the following year. Teaninich was passed from pillar to post through various mergers and acquisitions during the latter part of the 20th century, and today the distillery is of course owned by Diageo. If Teaninich is well-known for anything it is surely its unique blend of historic whisky distilling and cutting-edge technology – for example, it is one of just two Scotch distilleries to up its efficiency through using a mash filter instead of a mash tun or lauter tun. This focus on modernity has only accelerated in recent years: in 2013 Diageo invested £26 million in the site, essentially constructing a brand new, six-still-strong stillhouse and more than doubling capacity.
