Producer Information The Iron Side journey began in 2009 with a simple mission: to craft bold and finessed wines that tell a uniquely California story. Our bi-coastal wine-making team in Sonoma County and Boston began searching for a selection of special vineyards in California. Working with fruit from Paso Robles, Napa Valley, and Sonoma County we crafted the first vintage of our flagship Iron Side Cabernet Sauvignon. Our journey has evolved over the years, but our mission has never wavered. We have continued to seek out some of the best grapes California has to offer, and are now working with top vineyard sites in several premium appellations: Russian River Valley, Santa Ynez, Red Hills and Alexander Valley. Our collection has expanded beyond our flagship Cabernet Sauvignon to also include a selection of Reserve offerings - Pinot Noir, Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and our newest release, Chardonnay.

The gravity-flow winery at the Winery Hills site was completed in 2001 and in 2015, owners Grace and Ken Evenstad also bought Château de la Crée, an estate in Burgundy. Since its first commercial release in 1990, which received a 90-point score from critic Robert Parker, Domaine Serene has been a significant force in Oregon luxury wine. This includes a range of single-vineyard expressions, as well as the flagship Evenstad Reserve. A rich and full mouthfeel leads a layered finish of vanilla and dark chocolate. Producer Information Herzog family has been making wine for a long time. They trace their winemaking origins back to Philip Herzog, who made wine in Slovakia for the Austro-Hungarian court more than a century ago. Philip’s wines were so appreciated by Emperor Franz-Josef, that the emperor made Philip a baron. The Baron Herzog wines-a line of premium yet moderately priced California varietals-are named to commemorate the honor. Baron Philip made both kosher and non-kosher wines. The kosher wines were made in a separate cellar and tasted remarkably like his non-kosher wines. Indeed, the wines were made in the same basic manner. However, the kosher wines required a Jewish, Sabbath-observant cellar crew. In 1985, the Herzog family decided to expand their winemaking operations to California, where they make wine under two separate labels: Baron Herzog and Herzog Wine Cellars. After twenty years of renting space in various wineries, the family was finally able to build its own state-of-the-art winery just south of Santa Barbara, in the town of Oxnard. Here, under the supervision of head winemaker Joe Hurliman, Herzog Wine Cellars has created a center for high-end contemporary winemaking in a tradition that dates back nearly six centuries.

The winery, and thus the two friends, are noted for producing a tremendously broad selection of Pinot Noirs from far flung vineyards representing some of the better sites in the Ribbon Ridge, Dundee Hills, Chehalem Mountains, and the Eola Hills growing regions. We look to produce Pinot Noirs that show the distinctions of the sites we work with. All of the vineyards we either maintain or purchase fruit from are extremely well-tended sites that seek to grow the best fruit possible through rigorous attention to detail on every single vine. To ensure that our sites truly show the characteristics of the soil, micro-climate and clonal material none of them use irrigation. In the winery the philosophy of attention to the smallest details is further extended all the way from the fermenting must to the final bottling process. All of our wines at all of their points of evolution are handled and manipulated as little as possible while being smelled and tasted on a regular basis. Our selection of barrels has been limited to one cooper noted for producing some of the best made Pinot Noir barrels in the world. As we produce as many as 15-16 different bottlings of Pinot Noir under our own label each vintage the decisions we make about the quality of every single barrel is quite rigorous ensuring that each bottling represents the best possible wine from each vineyard with which we work.

Producer Information For years, vintners have coveted a stretch of land in the western end of Santa Barbara's Santa Rita Hills AVA known to have the perfect microclimate, soils, and exposure to grow world-class Pinot Noir. In 1999, fulfilling a long-held dream of owner Bob Davids, this sought-after stretch of land became Sea Smoke Vineyard. At Sea Smoke, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on the south-facing hillsides of our estate vineyards. On summer evenings, the Santa Ynez River canyon funnels a cool maritime fog layer (sea "smoke") across our hillsides, slowing the ripening process and providing the extended maturation period essential to the development of top-quality Pinot Noir. Our shallow clay soils are planted to French clones on vigor-reducing rootstocks, resulting in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, and our artisinal approach to winemaking results in wines that are a reflection of the unique land on which they are grown. We believe that Sea Smoke's rare geography and commitment to quality have produced wines of exceptional complexity and grace. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.

Smoky note to the fruit. Crunchy, fresh acidity and attractive creamy texture. Producer Information The history of the Schlumberger family business begins with Robert Alwin Schlumberger, born in Stuttgart in 1814. After the untimely death of his father, Robert was forced to abandon his studies and become a merchant. Arrived in the city of Reims in the Champagne region of France, he began working at the Ruinart Pere et Fils Champagne winery until he became the production manager. The meeting with the Viennese girl Sophie Kirchner during a boat trip on the Rhine, made a turning point in her life. It was the beginning of a love story and they decided to get married. But Sophie's parents were against her moving to Germany and therefore Robert decides to follow her to live in Austria. Schlumberger rented the vineyards on the "Goldeck in Maital" in the city of Bad Vöslau and thus founded his company. Just two years after the factory started, they presented the first bottle of sparkling wine called "Vöslauer Weiber Schaumwein" (White Sparkling Wine from Vöslau). Bunches of Blauer Portugieser from the Goldeck farm provided the basis for the bubbles produced with the traditional method. In 1859, after winning several international awards, the "Vöslauer Goldeck" brand became the first protected brand in Austria. The fame went up to the London exhibition of 1862, when Schlumberger's "Sparkling Vöslauer" was served to Her Majesty the Queen. Returning home to Vienna, Schlumberger's "Champagner" became a refined product and was subsequently designated as the official supplier of the Royal and Imperial House of Austria-Hungary. During the mid-nineteenth century, Schlumberger also became a pioneering producer of still red wine. Robert Schlumberger imported the classic red berry vines from Holland and was the first to plant them in Austria. In this field, he was the first to plant and cultivate French noble vines, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in France. Vöslauer Sparkling became the favorite drink of the Viennese society's elite. In 1878, Robert Alwin Schlumberger was officially named a knight with the noble title of "Edler von Goldeck"....

The palate is bright with ripe blackberry flavors, but a woody grip and vanilla-bean element on the midpalate ensures both quick pleasure and a long life. Producer Information San Antonio Winery is one of the oldest producing wineries in Los Angeles, established in 1917 by Italian immigrant, Santo Cambianica. The winery has vineyards in Paso Robles' El Pomar AVA, as well as in Santa Lucia Highlands, Arroyo Secco and Napa Valley, making a wide range of red, white, sparkling and dessert wines. The flagship wine, under the Riboli Family Wine Estates label, is a Cabernet Sauvignon wine from an estate vineyard in Rutherford. The Los Angeles winery has been a historical landmark since 1965 and remains family-owned after four generations. San Antonio survived Prohibition in the United States by gaining permission to produce altar wines, becoming one of the leading producers of sacramental wines in the region. It still makes a range of sacramental wines today. It is currently run by the third generation of the Riboli family. Along with the Riboli Family Estate wines, there are around 20 brands under the San Antonio umbrella. These include Stella Rosa, San Simeon, Opaque, Kinderwood, Villa Alena, Three Pines, and Maddalena (named after the family's matriarch Maddalena Riboli – niece of founder Santo Cambianica). San Antonio produces a host of value-driven wines from classic varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Syrah, to name a few. The operation has three locations: the original property and winery in Los Angeles; a wine store and tasting room in Ontario (California), and a winery in Paso Robles, established in 2016.

Firm, mature tannins—evidence of Ten’s ageability—are followed by a long, velvety finish. Reviews: Vinous: The 2019 Pinot Noir Ten is bright, punchy and super-expressive. It shows a bit more depth and textural resonance than the Southing. Sweet red cherry fruit blood orange, plum and spice flesh nicely with a bit of time. There's plenty of energy and persistence to support a number of years of fine drinking. Producer Information Sea Smoke Cellars is a Californian winery in Santa Barbara County that focuses on premium Pinot Noir. The estate was established in 1999 by Bob Davids in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Its production is relatively small and mostly distributed through its mailing list. The name of the winery was inspired by the cooling marine fog that is carried into the vineyards along the Santa Ynez River. All the grapes used in Sea Smoke wines come from the estate vineyard. The property has 40 hectares (98 acres) of vines planted with ten different Pinot Noir clones as well as 4ha (10 acres) of Chardonnay. The vines are in transitional soils, with elevations between 300-700ft (90-210m) above sea level, which makes for varied growing conditions. Sea Smoke has used organic and biodynamic farming practices since the 2013 vintage. Sea Smoke makes three Pinot Noir wines: Botella, Southing and Ten, which is a blend of all ten Pinot Noir clones. A change in the winemaking approach around the 2009 vintage shifted the style of the Pinot Noir, with subsequent vintages having less extraction and getting less new oak. In the mid-2000s Sea Smoke introduced the Gratis Chardonnay exclusively as a reward for mailing list members. It was so well received that a second Chardonnay was introduced and added to the regular catolog of available wines. Sea Smoke rounds out its collection with a sparkling Pinot Noir made in the traditional method as a Blanc de Noirs. In 2016, Sea Smoke acquired the 61-acre (24-hectare) Rita’s Crown Vineyard which neighbors the estate...

Inspired and informed by the Burgundy model of “climats,” Bernard and Béatrice produce an inspiring palette of cuvées indicative of their estate’s stellar terroir by crafting similar wines with similar compositions from diverse soils, environments, and orientations. Principal efforts are placed on responsibly developing the vineyards according to sustainable farming practices that combine Lutte Raisonnée (minimal intervention) with organic cultivation and biodynamics. These endeavors, along with skilled and spirited craftsmanship, are what ensures each wine’s amazing aging potential, finesse and ability to translate the particularity of the parcel from which it is sourced.

Producer Information Belle Pente (bell-pont') means "beautiful slope" - a perfect description for our 70 acre hillside vineyard & winery site in Oregon's Willamette Valley. It also reflects the inspiration that we draw from the exquisite wines of Burgundy and Alsace, following the guiding principle that great wine is made in the vineyard and merely nurtured in the winery. We are located on a historic 1840s farmstead two miles east of the town of Carlton in the Yamhill-Carlton American Viticultural Area. The vineyard site rises from 240' to 500' with south, south-east, and south-west exposures. The first vineyard was planted in 1994, and now includes over 16 acres of Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Chardonnay. The estate vineyard is supplemented with high quality fruit grown to our specifications in partnership with carefully selected independent Yamhill County vineyards. Our 3-level, gravity flow winery was built in 1996 (our first vintage), and our average production is now 4500 cases per year, 2/3 of which is Pinot Noir, and 2/3 of which is from estate grown grapes.

While the “Willamette Valley” appellation describes a fairly large area – almost 160 miles long, and nearly 45 miles at its widest – it is in the much smaller, northern corner of this region where its overall best vineyards are found. Here in the “North Valley”, we work to nurture and craft our artisan wines, honoring the best raw materials that nature has to provide. Further, we seek a noteworthy diversity of sources from within the six sub-appellations of the region, giving us a broad palate of flavors and profiles from which to assemble our blends. So whether it is the Dundee Hills, Ribbon Ridge, the Eola-Amity Hills, Yamhill-Carlton District, Chehalem Mountain area, or McMinnville, we are there, spending time with our growers in their vineyards each week, from flowering all the way through harvest.

Producer: Domaine Serene Ratings: WA 97 JS 94 Vintage: 2019 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: United States, Willamette Valley A brilliant ruby red color, the 2019 Evenstad Reserve Pinot Noir expresses aromas of dark dried cherries, pink peppercorn, and saddle leather on the nose. On the palate, layers of composed tannins and savory characters of cherrywood, ground sage and dried shiitake mushrooms reveal themselves, leading to an acidic finish that lingers with soft and silky tannins. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Medium ruby, the 2019 Pinot Noir Evenstad Reserve has pure, layered aromas of cranberry, pomegranate and raspberry with accents of tobacco leaves, graphite, mushroom and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate is harmoniously structured and seamless with delicate, perfumed fruit and a very long, spicy finish. This strikes a fine balance between a fruity, savory and earthy character. James Suckling: A firm and linear wine with some herbal and bark character. Blue fruit and dried strawberry. Floral. Full and tight with firmness and intensity. Give it three to four years to come around. Producer Information Established in 1989, Domaine Serene is a well-regarded wine producer based in Dayton, Oregon. It makes wines throughout the Willamette Valley, with most vineyards in the Dundee Hills AVA (in which the winery is located). In keeping with the region, much of Serene's portfolio is based on Pinot Noir, although Chardonnay features prominently as well. The domaine is made of six estates all up – as well as sites in the the Dundee Hills, Serene has the Abbey Oaks Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, and the Jerusalem Hill Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The gravity-flow winery at the Winery Hills site was completed in 2001 and in 2015, owners Grace and Ken Evenstad also bought Château de la Crée, an estate in Burgundy. In 2021, Evenstad Estates (Domaine Serene's parent group established by the Evenstads) also acquired Vougeot-based operation Christian Confuron et Fils. The move added six hectares (15 acres) to the family's Burgundy holdings, predominantly in the more northern Cote de Nuits. Since its first commercial release in 1990, which received a 90-point score from critic Robert Parker, Domaine Serene has been a significant force in Oregon luxury wine. Fruit is grown on...

Producer Information Lemelson Vineyards is an Oregon-based wine producer with vineyards stretching across three of Willamette Valley's key AVAs: Dundee Hills, Yamhill-Carlton District and Chehalem Mountains. The estate's history has been closely tied with that of the Pinot Noir grape variety, releasing its inaugural vintage in 1999. Founder Eric Lemelson planted his first Pinot Noir vines in 1995 and the grape variety has since been joined by Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Riesling vines planted over the estate's seven Willamette Valley vineyard sites: Briscoe, Chestnut Hill, Johnson, Meyer, Rocky Noel, Stermer and Washer. Taken together, these vineyards cover 63 hectares (156 acres) of land and are cultivated using only organic farming methods. The gravity-flow winery was built using mainly environmentally sustainable materials and has a maximum capacity of 12,000 cases of wine (over 100,000 liters). The winery is also fitted with a solar photovoltaic system that is able to produce up to 40 percent of its energy requirements through solar power. Below ground, the estate's temperature-controlled concrete cellars house its Pinot Noir wines, which age in French oak barrels for 14-16 months. Lemelson Vineyards' portfolio of Pinot Noir wines includes several single-vineyard expressions and a range of multi-vineyard blends including its house cuvée, Thea's Selection, which is made from grapes harvested in all seven of the estate's vineyards. All wines produced by the estate are fermented using native yeasts.

Wine Enthusiast: Fresh aromas of smashed black cherry and dark strawberry prove quite juicy on the nose of this bottling, while tarragon, cinnamon and nutmeg elements add nuance. The palate is like a bowlful of cherries and strawberries, sprinkled generously with chai and French toast spices, proving immensely easy to quaff.

Producer Information Founded in 1987, Argyle quickly stood out as a study in contrasts – honoring the deep traditions of wine and embracing innovation and experimentation; proud to be Oregonian and pulling knowledge and support from winemakers around the world. When common knowledge said a winery could produce either great still wine or great Sparkling wine, Argyle answered, “Why not both?” We’ve answered that question with wines that have long astonished tasters with range, complexity, and quality. Talk about winemaking and you’ll hear a lot about terroir, the all-important connection between the land and the wine. Here, in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, we believe this concept goes even deeper. Here there’s a community of winemaking, a shared culture that is incredibly special and unique. Our neighbors are our friends and collaborators. We learn from each other. We support each other. We challenge each other. Because that’s what gets us closer to the goal. And the goal is, always, to make great wine. When Rollin Soles, the founder of Argyle, visited the Willamette Valley in 1979, this spirit was a big part of what he fell in love with. Those were early, pioneering days, and the ethos of Oregon winemaking was already developing. There was a sense of work to be done and discoveries to be made and Rollin instantly knew he belonged here. It took him nearly another ten years — working and learning in Europe and Australia — before he came back home to Oregon. Today, Argyle remains the essential Oregon winery by continuing to embrace the contradictions that make us strong. We are deeply established here, yet young at heart, led by stand-out winemaker Nate Klostermann, who grew up here at Argyle, and innovative viticulturist Geoff Hall. Together they have continued Rollin’s pioneering mission to explore and expand the possibilities of modern winemaking. Along the way, they’ve produced the most highly-rated wines in Argyle’s long history.

Warm cinnamon and white-pepper spices fill the mid palate, stippling the silk-spun curve of fruit and smooth bevelled tannic lines. Pinewood smokiness of lapsang souchong in a low register. A fine lattice of dried herbs. Chiffon and evensong. Producer Information Schloss Gobelsburg is a highly regarded wine estate and historic property in the Kamptal region of Austria. It is one of the oldest wine estates of the country, particularly known for its wines from the Grüner Veltiner and Riesling grape varieties. Wine production at the site dates back to 1171. The monks of the Zwettl monastery managed the vineyards until 1995, when the business was taken over by Michael Moosbrugger, with the guidance of Willi Bründlmayer. The Gobelsburg castle itself was first documented in 1178 as a fortified property with adjoining church. It evolved into a more residential-focused property in the 16th Century and was completely rebuilt in 1725. Schloss Gobelsburg has 35 hectares (87 acres) of vineyards in various sites near the castle. These include the famous Erste Lage sites Heiligenstein and Gaisberg for Riesling, and Lamm, Steinsetz, Grub and Renner for Grüner Veltliner. These vineyards make the estate's range-topping, single-vineyard wines. Grüner Veltliner represents half of Gobelsburg's total plantings, with Riesling accounting for one quarter. Zweigelt, Sankt-Laurent, Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir) and Merlot are also planted in the vineyards. In the cellar, large maturation barrels are placed on wheels so wine can be moved around without needing to be pumped. In the pursuit of regional authenticity, oak for the barrels is sourced from Manhartsberg, north of Langenlois, rather than the normal French or American sources.
