Ripe black cherries and plump blueberries are lightly accented by mint and cocoa as mild tannins keep it smooth through the finish. Producer Information Sebastiani Vineyards and Winery is a major Sonoma County producer that has been heavily involved in the history of the Sonoma wine industry. It offers a wide selection of wines at various price points but has been most successful with value wines made from the popular California varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The estate was established in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani after he relocated to Sonoma from Tuscany. It was the only Sonoma winery to remain operational during Prohibition by making wine for sacramental and medicinal purposes. Sebastiani's son, August, bought the winery from the estate and expanded its facilities and introduced new varieties. August focused on producing dry table wines, increasing production so that in 1975, Sebastiani's production surpassed a million cases. In the 1980s, the winery was one of the largest in the United States, and was run by successive generations of the Sebastiani family. In 2001, Sebastiani sold a large collection of its most inexpensive brands under the Turner Road Vintners umbrella to Constellation Brands, and in 2008 the Sebastiani family sold the company to Bill Foley. Foley began shifting Sebastiani's focus toward its fine wine labels. Production and yields were lowered and the equipment and facilities were upgraded. Sebastiani takes advantage of some of the cooler climatic features of Sonoma by producing Roussanne, Viognier and Pinot Noir in addition to the signature California varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Zinfandel and Chardonnay. Most of the wines carry the Sonoma County appellation designation or its sub-AVAs with Sonoma Coast, Alexander Valley and Russian River Valley being well represented.

The palate would go down very easy on a hot day, with just a touch of acid-carrying flavors of gardenia, guava, mango and kaffir lime leaf. Producer Information Buena Vista Winery is located on the Sonoma side of the Los Carneros AVA in California. Founded in 1857 by Agoston Haraszthy de Mokesa, it is considered to be the oldest winery in northern California and its founder as the father of California wine. Today, Buena Vista produces a large array of wines, mainly focused on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Agoston Haraszthy de Mokesa immigrated to the US from Hungary in 1840, and eventually made his way to northern California in hopes of finding his fortune in the Gold Rush. He saw Sonoma's fantastic potential for growing vinifera grapes instead, and planted vines in Carneros. In 1869, Haraszthy tragically died in an alligator-infested river in Nicaragua, and the winery was forgotten until 1943, when it was purchased by Frank and Antonia Bartholomew. Bringing on the famous winemaker André Tchelistcheff, they replanted the vineyards and restored the winery, producing their first vintage in 1949. In 2011, Buena Vista became part of Boisset Family Estates, which owns several wineries, including Raymond Vineyards in Napa. The Los Carneros AVA is shared between Napa and Sonoma counties. With its strong, cooling breeze from the San Pablo Bay, it is suitable for cool-climate varieties including Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Merlot and Syrah also do well on the clay-dominated soils. Buena Vista grows all four of these varieties, and they are the focus of the portfolio. In addition, Buena Vista sources fruit from all over Sonoma County to make a range of other wines.

Founded in 1996 by David Ramey, it produces a collection of wines sourced from multiple Californian AVAs (American Viticultural Area) with Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah the primary grape varieties. David Ramey is known for his pioneering work in creating the style of Chardonnay that California is famous for today. The richer, full-bodied style is created through the use of indigenous yeasts, prolonged sur lie ageing, and the use of malolactic and new oak barrel fermentation. Unsurpringly, varietal Chardonnay features heavily in the portfolio. Grapes are sourced from notable vineyards such as Ritchie Vineyard in Russian River as well as Hyde in the Carneros of Napa Valley. Ramey also produces a collection of Cabernet Sauvignon, most notably from the Pedregal Vineyard in Oakville as well as a small amount of Syrah. These wines are well-received and met with high acclaim. Ramey achieved his graduate degree at the University of California at Davis, where his thesis on how aromas evolve in wine is still utilized in the industry to understand how a wine will age. After graduation, he worked at Pétrus in Bordeaux, where he learned winemaking techniques that he would bring back with him to the USA. For 16 years, Ramey made wine at some of California's best-known wineries, including Chalk Hill and Dominus Estate, before founding Ramey Cellars.

Producer: Platt Vineyard Ratings: 96 D 95 JS 98 VN Vintage: 2023 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.7% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: United States, California Produced from the blocks that harness both power and freshness, this wine’s chiseled structure and fruit density showcase why the Calera clone is such a perfect fit here and the predominant clone in the blend. The Estate Reserve translates the year and site with great transparency: deep and darkly colored while intensely concentrated and vibrant, this bottling captures the essence of Platt. For the Reserve bottling, we select lots that are pure, focused and with the longest ageing potential. Reviews: Like the Reserve Chardonnay, this represents a step up in terms of savoury complexity and sophistication but interestingly, despite the Reserve designation, none of that is overtly reliant on oak. Playing much less on fruit and more on earthy, savoury and textural qualities, this takes time to unfurl but, as it does so, shows spice and energy to match its density and layered fruit. The dominant fruit tone is a dark, dusky cherry note but it’s all fruit derived as this is entirely de-stemmed. Ripe and luxurious with lovely length. 97/100 – Matthew Hemming MW The 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve stains the palate with an exotic mélange of blood orange, pomegranate, spice, new leather and cedar. A Pinot of tremendous density and sheer power, the 2023 Platt will need to shed some of its baby fat. This is a quintessential wine from one of the very greatest sites in the United States. 98/100 – Antonio Galloni Medium to deep ruby-purple colored, the 2023 Pinot Noir Estate Reserve slowly emerges with a graceful perfume of red roses, red currant jelly, fresh cranberries, and crushed rocks, followed by earthy nuances of moss and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate reveals jaw-dropping elegance and grace, featuring bright red berry and floral layers with firm yet silky tannins and a refreshing backbone, finishing long and earthy. Firm and fresh. Producer Information We use the phrase “North Valley” as a geographical reference to the area from which we source, farm and produce our artisan Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and dry Rose. While the “Willamette Valley” appellation describes a fairly large area – almost 160 miles long, and nearly 45 miles at its widest – it is in the much smaller, northern corner of this region where its overall best vineyards are found. Here in the “North Valley”, we work to nurture and craft our artisan wines, honoring the best raw materials that nature has to provide. Further, we seek a noteworthy diversity of sources from within the six sub-appellations of the region, giving us a broad palate of flavors and profiles from which to assemble our blends. So whether it is the Dundee Hills, Ribbon Ridge, the Eola-Amity Hills, Yamhill-Carlton District, Chehalem Mountain area, or McMinnville, we are there, spending time with our growers in their vineyards each week, from flowering all the way through harvest.

In the mouth, flavors of minerality and lively juicy fruit lead to a long, refreshing finish. Producer Information Clos du Bois is a California producer located in Sonoma County with close ties to the history and development of the Sonoma wine industry. It was founded in 1974 by Frank Woods and the first commercial wines produced were a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir. Clos du Bois now has a large portfolio and its production is over one million cases annually. The company has a selection populated by wines at a range of price points, but are mostly made from varieties common in California and Sonoma – Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc. In 1978 Clos du Bois introduced Sonoma's first Bordeaux-style red blend, while Frank Woods was also a significant force in popularizing appellation and vineyard designations on California labels, favoring them over brand names. Clos du Bois began with a relatively significant amount of land for a new winery: just over 210 hectares (520 acres). Over the course of its history it has been an advocate for sustainable and green vineyard practices. The winery has over 4000 solar panels which provide almost the entirety of its energy needs. Woods sold the winery in 1988, eventually leading to its purchase by beverage giant Constellation Brands Inc. The winery and brand were among several lower-end Constellation brands sold to Gallo in a deal that was approved in January 2021. Although the winery has since been mothballed, the brand continues to be produced.

It specializes in wines made from the Bordeaux varieties, and in particular Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc. The estate was founded by Katheryn Walt Hall and her husband Craig after she inherited vineyards from her father – a grapegrower in the region. Around half of Hall's wines come from around 300 acres (120 hectares) of estate vineyards in St Helena, while the rest comes from a number of grower vineyards throughout Rutherford, St Helena, Atlas Peak and the Alexander Valley. Grapes are handpicked block by block in each vineyard, with individual plots depending on soil type and terroir. The majority of the red grapes are then taken to the Hall winery in Rutherford, whereas the Sauvignon Blanc grapes and the fruit for the Napa Valley Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon wines are taken to the winery in St Helena for vinification.

Reviews: Wine Advocate: Deep garnet-purple in color, it prances out of the glass with showy notes of warm cassis, baked black berries, Black Forest cake and menthol, plus suggestions of cardamom and licorice. The medium to full-bodied palate is refreshing and elegantly styled with bags of juicy, expressive black fruits and a satisfyingly savory finish. James Suckling: Aromas of blackcurrants, hazelnuts, chocolate and violets follow through to a full body with round, creamy tannins and a pretty finish. Producer Information In the 1990's, a group of friends with a passion for good wine and fun times together crushed a few tons of grapes in the Napa Valley for their personal cellars. The resulting wine was so well-received that they started producing wine the very next year to share with the public. They chose to name the wine, appropriately, Amici ("friends" in Italian). Amici's owners — John Harris, Bob and Celia Shepard, and Bart Woytowicz—are all great friends with a passion for making and enjoying great wine. At Amici the focus is on quality, not quantity. Because they insist on keeping the production small, they can carefully control the process of creating each wine, crafting what they like to consider a small work of art in each bottle. What started as a few friends crushing some grapes for fun is now an award-winning premium wine known around the country, but one thing will never change: Amici is a wine created by friends, for friends.
