The lamination of this schist will result in rapid flow of water. The soil warms more quickly in spring and generate an early start to the vine. This crumbly side of the rock also allows deep rooting of vines. The roots find clay areas rich in minerals which are useful in summer to water resources. The difference between plots concerns the orientation of the vines, slope, soil thickness and age of the vines. Our vineyard is located south of the Loire, 50km from the Atlantic Ocean enjoys a rather oceanic climate. The winters are rather mild which generates a rather early start of the vine. Sometimes too much because the risks of frost exist until May 10th. In 1991 we sprayed an anti-freeze system for our hillside chardonnays. Summers are relatively dry but with mild temperatures. On some wet years, we cut the leaves around the fruit area to ensure good ventilation of the berries and the best possible maturity. The vine suffers little drought and especially the balance between sugar / acid in the berries allows to obtain aromatic wines while keeping its freshness. This climate is important in the character of our wines and gives it a real originality.

It is particularly notable for its wines made from Pinot Noir, and in particular the flagship Ocio, but makes a range of wines from many of Chile's key grape varieties, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carmenère and Chardonnay. The brand was created in 1993 when Concha Y Toro purchased the Santa Elisa estate in Chimbarongo, Colchagua. The estate had around 300 hectares (494 acres) under vine, including a plot of Pinot Noir vines which were, on average, 25 years old. The estate has grown considerably since, and now Cono Sur makes wines in most of Chile's key winegrowing regions, including the San Antonio Valley, the Maipo Valley, the Limari Valley, and Aconcagua. Pierre Moncuit and his wife Odile Moncuit-Delos started in the middle of the 20th century. Producer Information Duca di Salaparuta is a Sicilian wine group based in Casteldaccia in the province of Palermo. It has three main brands: the titular Duca di Salaparuta, the value-driven Corvo range, and the Marsala estate Cantine Florio. The Duca di Salaparuta label is a collection of premium wines, mostly classified as Sicilia IGT. Grapes are sourced from three separate estates around the island – SuorMarchesa in Riesi near the centre, Risignolo in Salemi in the west and Vajasindi on the slopes of Mount Etna towards the east coast. The flagship of the Duca di Salaparuta portfolio is the Duca Enrico, a varietal Nero d'Avola. After a hand pick in the vineyard, grapes are destemmed and macerated for approximately ten days. It spends 18 months aging in barrel prior to another 18 months of aging in the cellar in bottle before release. The white counterpart of the portfolio is the Bianca di Valguarnera, an oak-fermented Insolia. Other notable wines include the Nawàri - a varietal Pinot Nero and the Ala - a dessert-style red infused with morello cherry leaves. The Corvo label also has its origins in the creation of the company in 1824, and consists of a selection of value wines under the Terre Siciliane IGT classification. Cantine Florio, founded in 1833 in the town of Marsala, focuses on Marsala wine, sweet and fortified wines including Passito di Pantelleria, and sweet Moscato spumante. The original company was founded in 1824 by Don Guiseppe Alliata di Villafranca, and remained under the ownership of the family until 1960, when it was bought by the regional government of Sicily. It was then acquired in 2000 by ILLVA di Saronno, who created the Duca di Salaparuta group.

Producer Information In 2013, Bruno Balbás, along with three good friends, founded the Lolea Sangria brand in Zaragoza with the goal of reclaiming a drink that they loved; a drink whose reputation and virtue had been sullied by too many generic versions and too much tourist pandering. Producer Information The Royal Tokaji Company is a relatively recent addition to the ranks of Tokaj producers, having been founded in the Hungarian village of Mád in 1990. Acclaimed wine writer Hugh Johnson teamed up with Ben Howkins and winemaker Peter Vinding-Diers as founders after Johnson found the region to be not meeting its potential. Now, it is one of the most famous producers in the region. The range at the Royal Tokaji Company has everything from a dry Furmint to minute quantities of the luscious – and rare – Essencia. This Essencia can be fermented for up to eight years, resulting in a wine with less than 3 percent alcohol and sugar levels reaching up to 85 percent on any given year. A First Growth Nyulászó vineyard wine is included as well as single-vineyard bottlings from each of the five vineyards the company owns. Royal Tokaji focuses on the grape varieties Furmint, Hárslevelú and Muscat, which are grown in the estate's top vineyards. The Mézes Mály vineyard is classified the highest as a Great First Growth, with Nyulászó, Szt Tamás and Betsek judged First Growths, and Birsalmás a second growth. These vineyards were classified at the end of the 17th Century by Prince Rakoczi of Hungary, well before the 1855 classification of Bordeaux. The vineyards lie at the convergence of two main rivers. It is the presence of these rivers that encourages the early morning mists to flow across the grapes, providing the perfect environment for botrytis to flourish. The vines are approximately 20 years old and have such low yields that during some vintages one vine can yield only one glass of wine. The aszú grapes are picked, crushed and then fermented in large Hungarian oak barrels with natural yeasts.
