The winery is also known for the gondola that takes visitors from the carpark to the tasting room atop a 300-feet-high volcanic knoll. In 1977, Sterling was sold to the Coca Cola Company, which had a brief foray into the wine industry. Coca Cola decided to sell the vineyard in 1982 to Seagram, who ran the vineyard until it was bought in turn by the drinks conglomerate Diageo in 2001. The brand was purchased by Treasury Wine Estate in 2016.
