Distilled in 2013, the whisky spent a dozen years maturing, finishing up in a sherry butt that yielded 303 cask strength bottles when it was opened in 2025. Palate: A rich, complex, and smooth taste. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information In 1852, William Mackenzie founded Dailuaine Distillery. Dailuaine derives from the Scottish Gaelic ‘An dail uaine’ meaning ‘green valley’, named most probably for those elegant undulations of the Spey valley in which the Dailuaine whisky distillery lies.William had also been a farmer who worked in the Carron area. Following his death in 1865, William Mackenzie’s wife leased the distillery to a banker from Aberlour called James Fleming, who, with William’s son, formed Mackenzie and Company in 1879. Five years later an extensive rebuild commenced, leaving the distillery as one of Scotland’s largest. Another five years on and Charles Doig built Scotland’s first pagoda roof, which graced the distillery until it collapsed in 1917 after a menacing conflagration desecrated the buildings. In 1898, Dailuaine-Talisker Distilleries Ltd was formed, the group included an Aberdeen based grain distillery, fellow Speysider Imperial, Dailuaine distillery and the Skye-based Talisker. In 1925, Distillers Company Limited acquired the company, latterly amalgamating with Diageo. Dailuaine also operates a dark grains plant, whose principal job being to convert draff into feed for cattle. The plant currently processes around 900 tonnes weekly. The bulk of single malt produced at the distillery is used for blending in Johnnie Walker. The spirit is filled at Cambus and then transported to Blackrange for maturation in the Diageo-owned warehouses. Single malt bottlings from Dailuaine are few and far between; there have been few independent bottlings and but a handful of official releases.

Here we got our hands on a single malt from Dailuaine, distilled in 2015, and bottled in 2022 – a twin to the other seven-year-old Dailuaine to join the ranks of our own indie bottling line of late. The two are not identical though (as you might have gathered from their different hues), instead of finishing in a sherry cask, this expression was treated to a stay in a first-fill bourbon barrel. Dailuaine 7 Year Old 2015 Bourbon Barrel Single Cask (Private Label) 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Citrus blossom and delicate lemon custard pudding, vibrant, fresh notes of vanilla pod lead to buttered tea loaf and cushions of soft sponge cake. Palate: Silky soft butter leads the way for a coating of juicy, oily malt, slick caramel, and vanilla fudge. A snap of pepper edges in with hints of pork crackling, though the creaminess keeps it in check with superb balance. Finish: Flaked, toasted almonds, sweet oak char, Custard Cream biscuits. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The Glengoyne distillery sits at the foot of Dumgoyne Hill near Loch Lomond. The distillery burn, as it is known, tumbles down the Dumgoyne Hill providing water for the 1.1 million litre capacity whisky distillery. In the past, the woodlands and undulations which covered the surrounding area gave superb shelter for the illegitimate distillations that were brought about by heavy spirit taxation. During the early 19th century, it is rumoured, there were as many as eighteen illicit Stills in the area. The whisky that came from these Stills was taken to the local blacksmith, who filled earthenware pots with the rough, wild spirit and employed local girls to walk the 14 miles to Glasgow with the whisky concealed beneath their hooped skirts. The dense woodland once provided shelter for Rob Roy MacGregor who secreted himself in a little hollow when pursued by the English army.

Distillery Information The Miltonduff distillery lies in the Glen of Pluscarden, whose barley rich pastures once played host to as many as fifty illicit stills during the 1800s. The site was once the meal mill of Pluscarden Abbey. The Benedictine Priory of Pluscarden was founded in 1236 and had been closed for some time, until 1948 when it was reopened. The Miltonduff whisky distillery was founded by Robert Bain and Andrew Peary in 1824, shortly after the Excise Act was passed. Miltonduff was named for an illicit distillery known as Milton and the suffix was added for the Duff family, who owned the land. It was following Hiram Walker Gooderham and Worts’ acquisition of George Ballantine and Son in 1935, that the need for a stable supply of Scotch malt whisky became evident. Accordingly, the Miltonduff distillery was acquired a year later and transferred subsequently to the supervision of George Ballantine. From then on, Miltonduff whisky has been an important component of Ballantine’s popular blended products.

All of the spirit is matured onsite in ex-bourbon casks; the distillery boasts fourteen onsite warehouses. The building was planned as early as 1940, by the famed architect William Delmé-Evans, designer of Isle of Jura, though GlenAllachie was not founded until 1967.

The name ‘Tamnavulin’ translates to ‘mill on the hill’ and is a reference to the ancient three-storey wool carding mi which sits on the distillery site and can be traced all the way back to 1560. The Tamnavulin whisky distillery draws its water from underground springs in the surrounding hillside and takes its cooling waters from the River Livet, whose headwaters rise in the Grampians in Moray before flowing eleven miles until their confluence with the River Avon.Tamnavulin was founded in 1966 by a subsidiary of Invergordon Distillers Ltd, the whisky distillery has changed little during its relatively short life. Tamnavulin is rather typical of 1960s-constructed distilleries and the exterior is decidedly industrial, in stark contrast to its markedly stunning locality.
