Its history dates back to 1892 when Hugo Asbach (1868–1935) founded the company in the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Asbach, a native from Cologne, learned the distillery trade at the local "Export-Company for German Cognac" and further improved his knowledge in France. He founded his own company on 11 May 1892, distributing domestic "Rüdesheim Cognac" which soon became popular. After World War I, when the Treaty of Versailles decreed that the word Cognac could only be used for French products, Hugo Asbach coined the term Weinbrand for German brandy.

Producer: Chateau Cap L'Ousteau Vintage: NV Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Bordeaux Blend Red Country/Region: France, Haut-Medoc This wine, already soft and generous, is ripe with black-currant fruits and balanced acidity. Ripe Merlot contrasts with the structured Cabernets. It is full, rich and ready to drink. Producer Information Chateau Cap l’Ousteau is located at Lamarque, close to Margaux and Saint-Julien. The Chateau dates back to the 18th and 19th centuries. Among its prestigious owners over the years, you’ll find Monsieur de Bethman who was mayor of Bordeaux, and the Clauzel family. It is on this privileged site that the 78 hectares of the estate Chateau du Cartillon are cultivated. Cap l’Ousteau is the second wine of Chateau du Cartillon and is given the same attention as its prestigious elder. This allows the younger vines on the estate, when reasonably blended with the older vines, to show their full potential. The vineyard occupies a remarkable position on two hilltops whose thick layer of gravels is an eminently favorable environment for winegrowing. The nature of the terroir, the traditional approach to managing the vineyard and the work in the vinifying cellar make the wine from Chateau Cap l’Ousteau a typical, classic example of the appellation.

Using an artisanal stone mill to grind grains like corn and rye into meal, Sugarlands Distilling Company then mixes in pure Smoky Mountain water to create the mash. From there, the liquid is transferred to the fermenter to simmer for a few days, and when the time is right, that "wash" is pumped into the copper pot still where it is heated and distilled. The alcohol vapor filters through the copper pipes and rises through the plates of the distillation column, down through the chilling column to cool and is finally poured out of the Spirit Safe.
