Its history dates back to 1892 when Hugo Asbach (1868–1935) founded the company in the town of Rüdesheim am Rhein. Asbach, a native from Cologne, learned the distillery trade at the local "Export-Company for German Cognac" and further improved his knowledge in France. He founded his own company on 11 May 1892, distributing domestic "Rüdesheim Cognac" which soon became popular. After World War I, when the Treaty of Versailles decreed that the word Cognac could only be used for French products, Hugo Asbach coined the term Weinbrand for German brandy.

Size: 750ML Proof: 90 (45% ABV) Origin: United States Distillery: Mountain Laurel Spirits Llc "Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskies pay homage to our state's rich tradition of making small-batch whiskey," says Herman Mihalich, master distiller at Mountain Laurel Spirits. Raised in Monessen (a small city situated in southwest Pennsylvania) and armed with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Wharton, Mihalich has spent most of his life in Pennsylvania. "I really wanted to revive that entrepreneurial spirit and rich rye heritage we have here,"he says. Dad's Hat Rye is made from a mash of 80% rye, 15% malted barley and 5% malted rye. After Mihalich sources all of the grains from local farmers in Pennsylvania, he slowly ferments the mash for approximately seven days before distilling it though a 500-gallon Christian Carl copper-pot still imported from Germany. The still, which is augmented by a side-column, allows Mihalich to remove any impurities in the whiskey, while simultaneously refining its flavor and texture. Dad's Hat Pennsylvania Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes Nose: Nose is woody and herbaceous. Palate: Bold and spicy rye flavor with a bit of heat on the back of the tongue. Initial rye notes gives way to subtle flavors of citrus, cinnamon, nuts and rock candy. Finish: Lingering, medium-long finish.

It is on this privileged site that the 78 hectares of the estate Chateau du Cartillon are cultivated. Cap l’Ousteau is the second wine of Chateau du Cartillon and is given the same attention as its prestigious elder. This allows the younger vines on the estate, when reasonably blended with the older vines, to show their full potential. The vineyard occupies a remarkable position on two hilltops whose thick layer of gravels is an eminently favorable environment for winegrowing.
