59.18 CAD
The bindings are tight and square. Text is clean; light, even age-toning. Moderate shelf handling wear. Dust jacket has loss of much of the spine and edge-wear. 8.5 inches tall; 119 pages. This is a curated anthology of essays that sheds light on the complexities of Fitzgerald’s life, offering a diverse range of perspectives on both the man and his work. Rather than being a traditional biography, this collection compiles critical essays that explore Fitzgerald's influence on American literature, his personal struggles, and the cultural significance of his writing. The collection includes contributions from a variety of esteemed figures, who provide insightful analysis of Fitzgerald’s understanding of the American psyche and his exploration of wealth and disillusionment. Through these contributions, Kazin presents a more textured view of Fitzgerald—not only as a writer who captured the essence of the Jazz Age but as a man deeply affected by personal tragedies, fame, and the elusive pursuit of success. The volume gives readers an opportunity to see Fitzgerald from multiple angles, providing critical insights into both his public persona and private struggles. [Adapted from Reviews] Subjects: F. In Heaven as on Earth: A Vision for the Afterlife The author of the best-selling The Road Less Traveled presents a visionary account of the soul's journey in the afterlife, told through the experiences of a fictional psychiatrist who attempts to fulfill his destiny. Dr. Peck looks past the boundaries of life itself to give us this work, his singular vision of what we can expect when life, as we know it, ends. It is a stirring work of imagination -- a novel that offers a fascinating view of what the afterlife may bring. It is also a profound book about the self -- a book in which we come to see that Dr. Peck's vision of how to thrive in the afterlife can teach us important things about living our own lives here on Earth. About M. Scott Peck M. Scott Peck's publishing history reflects his own evolution as a serious and widely acclaimed writer, thinker, psychiatrist, and spiritual guide. Since his groundbreaking bestseller, The Road Less Traveled, was first published in 1978, his insatiable intellectual curiosity has taken him in various new directions with virtually each new book: the subject of healing human evil in People of the Lie (1982), where he first briefly discussed exorcism and possession; the creative experience of community in The Different Drum (1987); the role of civility in personal relationships and society in A World Waiting to Be Born (1993); an examination of the complexities of life and the paradoxical nature of belief in Further Along the Road Less Traveled (1993); and an exploration of the medical, ethical, and spiritual issues of euthanasia in Denial of the Soul (1999); as well as a novel, a children's book, and other works. A graduate of both Harvard University and Case Western Reserve, Dr. Peck served in the Army Medical Corps before maintaining a private practice in psychiatry. For the last twenty years, he has devoted much of his time and financial resources to the work of the Foundation for Community Encouragement, a nonprofit organization that he helped found in 1984.
