Long, long flavors of pure cherry and currant. Luscious, refined and lovely all the way through. Sweet and sour like a cassis fruit paste. Producer Information Domaine J.M. Boillot (also known as Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot) is a Burgundy wine estate producing pure, aromatic wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The operation is based in Pommard but it makes a large range of wines from numerous appellations mostly located in the Côte de Beaune. Jean-Marc Boillot worked with his grandfather Henri Boillot between the late 60s and 1984 when he became winemaker for Olivier Leflaive. He created his own domaine in 1989 after inheriting vines from his grandfather, and later from his maternal grandmother, Etienne Sauzet's daughter. His brother Henri runs Domaine Henri Boillot in Volnay. Winemaking differs considerably between the red and white wines. The Pinot Noir fruit is destemmed and undergoes a cold maceration before fermentation. After basket pressing, it is aged in barrels (around 50 percent new oak) for around 16 months without racking. The Chardonnay grapes are pressed in pneumatic presses. The juice is racked off the heavy lees then fermented in oak barrels. The white wines are aged for around 11 months in oak, around 30 percent of which is new. The wines are not racked, although the lees are stirred weekly. Wines are sampled just before bottling to determine whether fining or filtration are required. In addition to its Burgundy wines, J.M. Boillot produces wines under two Languedoc-Roussillon labels: Vermentino and Syrah from Domaine de la Truffière; and a Roussanne and Syrah-Carignan blend from Domaine les Roques.

Producer Information J. Moreau & Fils is a wine producer and négoce firm in the Chablis wine region of northwestern Burgundy. Established in 1814, it is known for its three grand cru wines from the Vaudésir, Valmur and Les Clos climats, as well as several premier crus from parcels in Mont de Milieu, Vaucoupin, Fourchaume, Montmains and Vaillons. Like many wineries in the area it also produces a standard Chablis and Petit Chablis. The company operates through a series of contracts with growers and winemakers in the region. The winemaking at the J. Moreau & Fils cellar in Chablis is overseen by Chablis native Lucie Depuydt. The village wines age for six to eight months in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. The premier and grand cru wines are aged for 10-14 months, with some partly fermented and aged in oak barrels. The estate's signature grape variety is Chardonnay, but J. Moreau & Fils also works in partnership with a number of winegrowers to cultivate a range of other grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Aligoté, Gamay, Merlot, Syrah, Cinsaut and Grenache. These vineyards collectively cover an area of 200 hectares (494 acres) that span more than 300 plots in numerous regions and appellations including Pouilly-Fuissé, Sancerre, Vouvray, Bourgogne and IGP Pays d'Oc. Since 1998, J. Moreau & Fils has been part of the Boisset group (also known as Boisset La Famille des Grands Vins), based in Nuits-Saint-Georges.

The aromatic base note is that of blackberries and blueberries. In the mouth it is well structured, full and rich, the “attack” is very straightforward. Producer Information Domaine Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier is a Burgundian wine producer based in Chambolle-Musigny. It is particularly well-known for its Musigny Grand Cru wine which is regarded as a benchmark for that vineyard. While the estate is most closely associated with Pinot Noir wines from Chambolle-Musigny, it has 10 hectares (25 acres) of vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges as well. The Château de Chambolle-Musigny has been owned by the Mugnier family since 1863. From 1950, as there was no winemaker in the family, the vineyards were contracted out to Faiveley and Bruno Clair, with the latter selling the wine in bulk. Between 1985 and 2004, Frédéric Mugnier was able to take back the vineyards as leases expired. On top of the Musigny Grand Cru, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier makes a wine from the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru vineyard, as well as two premier cru wines, Les Fuées and Les Amoureuses, and a village-level wine. From the Nuits-Saint-Georges holdings, Mugnier makes a Clos des Fourches premier cru wine, and a red and a white premier cru from the Clos de la Maréchale vineyard, which is a monopole of the domaine. Vineyards are farmed without herbicides or pesticides and just two mildew treatments per year. Grapes are de-stemmed and whole berries are fermented in old open wooden vats. After around 16 months in oak, wines are bottled without fining and filtration.

Consistent with the nose the middle weight and even more intensely mineral-driven flavors are restrained and chiseled while displaying first-rate persistence on the bitter chocolate-inflected finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: There are two and a half barrels of the 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses (Domaine Louis Jadot), a wine that saw some whole-cluster fermentation this year. Exhibiting aromas of raspberries, orange rind, dried flowers and creamy new oak, it's medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with fine but youthfully firm tannins and a long, precise finish. It was quite marked by its wood when I tasted it, but I suspect that will have settled down by the time it's bottled. Vinous: The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru has a charming bouquet of red berry fruit infused with orange pith and hints of nougat. There is real intensity to this Les Amoureuses, equal to that of the Bonnes-Mares. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, beautifully integrated oak, lovely depth and a hint of dark chocolate on the lactic finish. It will take time for everything to meld together, but this feels very assured even at such a premature stage.

Ratings: BH 92 V 94 Vintage: 2018 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Pinot Noir Country/Region: France, Burgundy Aromas of raspberries, Indian spices, orange rind and rose petals preface Mugnier's 2018 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées, a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated wine that's rich but vibrant, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, lusty finish. Reviews: Burghound: Here too the nose is quite ripe but also quite fresh with its aromas that are comprised mostly by the essence of plum, spice and pretty floral nuances. There is both fine volume and verve to the slightly more refined and more mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that deliver excellent length on the firmly structured, ever-so-mildly warm and youthfully austere finale. This is not as refined as the exquisite 2019 version, but it is more powerful and broad-shouldered. A qualitative choice. Vinous: The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has a vivid bouquet of red cherries, cranberry and raspberry preserve enmeshed with crushed stone and light sous-bois scents, all very well defined. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple entry, offering crisp red berry fruit laced with white pepper and clove. This is so harmonious – not the most powerful Fuées I have encountered, but sleek and sensual. On top of the Musigny Grand Cru, Jacques-Frédéric Mugnier makes a wine from the Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru vineyard, as well as two premier cru wines, Les Fuées and Les Amoureuses, and a village-level...

Producer: Les Cretes Vintage: 2019 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Petit Rouge Country/Region: Italy, Aosta The Torrette Superiore by Les Cretes is a wine deeply linked to the regional tradition, produced with pure Petit Rouge grapes. This vine, quite common below Mont Blanc, gives life to a wine consumed throughout the meal by the enthusiasts of the Aosta Valley, thanks to the perfect balance and the richness of its scents. Producer Information Valle d’Aosta is located in the northwest Italy. Surrounded by the Alps, the Valle d’Aosta is home to the highest elevated vineyards in all of Europe. Founded in 1989 by Costantino Charrere and Jolanda Plat, Les Cretes is one of only a few commercial wineries in the quaint region of Valle D'Aosta. The winery is located in Aymavilles with the cellar lying one mile from Monte Bianco tunnel. Comprised of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, as well as the indigenous varieties of Petit Rouge, Fumin, Petite Arvine and Gros Rouge, with 60 acres of vineyards in 6 communes along the river Dora Baltea. Until recently, their entire annual production of a few thousand cases was sold entirely within Italy. Originally from France, the Charrère family moved in the mid-1700s to what is now the Aosta Valley of Italy. They started out as farmers and millers, establishing a home site and building a water powered mill on their property in Aymaville. In 1955 the Charrères planted their first two hectares of grapes, focusing on making quality wines out of the indigenous vinifera varieties grown in the Aosta Valley. In 1989 the Charrères enlarged the original estate and built the Les Crêtes winery. The old mill and home site will soon be restored for use as an agritourism destination. Because the Charrères believe great wines always start with quality grapes, vineyard management at Les Crêtes is firmly based on a meticulous agronomic management system. Spraying to control diseases is kept to a minimum to protect the regions delicate terroir and to follow the new E.U. rural policies for preserving mountainous areas. The soils that have developed over the centuries on the glacial hillsides around Aymaville are composed of a mixture of sand and calcareous rocks. Les Crêtes vineyards are located at relatively high mountain elevations (600 to 1,000 m. /1,970 to 3,280 ft.), and due to the high elevation climatic conditions, the harvests at...

Producer: Luciano Sandrone Ratings: WA 100 VN 98 Vintage: 2016 Size: 750ml ABV: 14.5% Varietal: Nebbiolo Country/Region: Italy, Piedmont Sandrone's Barolo "Le Vigne" is a robust and very intense wine , aged for 24 months in tonneau. The nose is soft and complex, with fascinating notes of spices, violets, berry jam and balsamic hints. The taste is elegant, full, balanced and long, with excellent sapidity and noble tannins. The class made in wine! Reviews: Wine Advocate: I absolutely adore this wine on every emotional and intellectual level. I can still taste it today, weeks after my first sampling. The Luciano Sandrone 2016 Barolo Le Vigne is a stirring and profound expression that pulls on your heartstrings. I found it to be unforgettable, quite literally, inspiring one of those celebrated "wow" moments that we wine lovers so desperately seek in bottle after bottle. Le Vigne is a clever blend of fruit from Baudana in Serralunga d'Alba (offering the power), Villero in Castiglione Falletto (shaping the precision), Vignane in Barolo (adding to the purity of the aromas) and Merli in Novello (that helps to flesh out the fruit). This intersection of various vineyards spanning the appellation creates a pyramid of perfection and beauty. The wine shows large construction, but that fruit weight is balanced against the vivid cherry, spice, aniseed and campfire ash that gently lift from the bouquet. Vinous: The 2016 Barolo Le Vigne is brilliant and explosive in the glass, with tons of brightness, energy and tension. Classically austere, the 2016 is going to take a few years to be at its best, and yet the wine is so arrestingly beautiful today. A mix of freshly cut and dried flowers, mint and pine add an intriguing upper register. In 2016, Le Vigne is finely chiseled and sculpted from start to finish. Bright saline notes add a closing kick of freshness. Producer Information Luciano Sandrone is one of the most iconic producers in Barolo, and his is both a well known and extraordinary story. He started to learn viticulture at the age of 14 or 15, and after years of work as a cellarman he depleted his life savings and purchased his first vineyard on the Cannubi hill in 1977, though he could only manage his land on the weekends while he...

He is of course most studied for his political philosophy, but his work on pedagogy, Emile, is perhaps even more influential. His pedagogical essays are continuous with his broader philosophical stance, and owe a great debt to nature and natural history in particular. Emile emphasizes the importance of an understanding about the natural world, both for its complexity and its simplicity. Rousseau was deeply curious about the world of plants (an engraving by Meyer of Rousseau "herborisant" or herbalizing illustrates this beautifully), and wrote the present treatise in the form of letters to a woman teaching her daughters botany. This epistolary structure is a very XVIIIc mode, drawing ultimately on Cicero. Pierre-Josephe Redouté (1759-1840) was a rather more professional botanist. He came into the favor of the Empress Josephine in particular, and illustrated the roses, irises and lilies (inter alia) in her gardens at Malmaison. He is widely esteemed as the greatest of all flower-painters, and in 1805 his powers were at their apex. It is therefore unsurprising that it is his name and not the great Swiss philosopher's that has been applied to the spine of the volume. The present item is the first state of the first edition, with pl. 54 mis-numbered "62" and without printed titles.
