The bank was taking over the entire property until unpaid debts were settled. Over the course of the next 3 years, locals (and some “self-guided tourists”) slowly vandalized and looted the deserted buildings. They took whatever they could find including memorabilia, gift shop decanters and possibly a few barrels of whiskey with them. The story of Michter’s in Pennsylvania paused on that fateful day in February, 1990, but it didn’t quite end.

Although most of the stock was transferred into stainless steel tanks, which halted the age at 16 years, some was further matured in barrels and bottled at 18, 19, and 20 years.
