Distillery Information Hardy Cognac located in the Crouin quarter of Dognac, France is a historic producer of Cognac brandy. It was founded in 1863 by British gentleman Anthony Hardy with the company remaining within the family to this day. Anthony Hardy was a wine and spirits merchant who reportedly fell in love with Charentes wines and the surrounding region. So much so that after founding La Maison Hardy he officially changed his name to Antoine. From 1872, the phylloxera louse had a devasting effect on the vineyards of Cognac destroying a majority of the vines until the end of the 19th Century. Thankfully, 1869, 1871, 1874 and 1875 harvest were particularly abundant and the company survived. Today, Hardy Cognac is run by two women of the fifth generation of the family, Bénédicte and Sophie Hardy. The Legend 1863 Cognac is the flagship of the portfolio, produced in commemoration of the Hardy family.

Size: 750ML Proof: 34 (17%ABV) Origin: France Distillery: Jules Gautret A tasty tipple from the Jules Gautret Cognac House, Pineau des Charentes is made by blending grape juice with Cognac in oak barrels. It is said that this method was first discovered by mistake in the 16th Century, when a French winegrower added grape must to a barrel of Cognac by accident! A happy accident indeed, this is a delightful sweet wine, with plenty of juicy fruit and Cognac richness. Ideal for summer evening sipping! Jules Gautret Pineau des Charentes Rouge Tasting Notes Nose: Subtle nose of ripe fruit, black cherries and currants. Palate: Rich, vinous red grapes, juices, and skins, bumped up by warming, poached fruit, and oaken Cognac. Finish: This powerful and tight-fitting pineau is fresh and fruity with a long aromatic aftertaste. Distillery Information Our history began back in the 19th century when two brothers, Jacques and Étienne Gautret, purchased Château de Jonzac in 1818. After being left fairly inactive for a while, in 1847 the Château became the spirits trading company “Gautret & Fils” founded by Jacques and Françoise Gautret’s son: Louis François Jules Gautret. Their son would subsequently choose to market his products under the brand name “Château de Jonzac”, where he set up his promising company. The Gautret trading company later officially took on the name “Jules Gautret” following the transfer of the company from the father, Jacques Gautret, to his son Jules Gautret. Back when business schools had barely begun to appear, he studied, as was customary at the time, in a trading company, while taking drawing and painting classes at the Bordeaux School of Beaux-Arts (Fine Arts). Hence, his taste for creating. Two centuries later, the Jules Gautret team’s drive has never stopped growing with each passing generation. Enhanced thanks to all those who have worked, and are still working, with this outstanding raw material, the company has been forging a new identity over the years. And now, the Jules Gautret team – made up of young, promising minds – is breathing new life and innovation into the age-old brand.

A wine of great finesse and an impressive length in the mouth. Producer Information Domaine de La Pousse d'Or is a high-profile domaine based in the village of Volnay, in Burgundy's southerly Côte de Beaune subregion. The domaine is known for both its Premier Cru Volnay homonym, the Bousse d'Or climat, as well as a raft of plots in top vineyards in the Côte de Beaune. It produces both red (Pinot Noir) and white (Chardonnay) wines from its headquarters in the impressive Château de Volnay (also known as the Pousse d'Or manor). Prior to its ownership by a conglomerate (with the estate and vineyards run by Gérard Potel) from 1964 to 1997, the Bousse d'Or vineyard had seen numerous owners since the Dukes of Burgundy and the King of France in the 15th to 17th Centuries. Successive ownerships followed the French Revolution, including the then-owners of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, the Duvault-Blochet family, in the mid-19th Century. Producer: Domaine des Comtes Lafon Ratings: WA 93 BH 92 Vintage: 2006 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: France, Meursault Charmes A maturing nose displays notes of pain grillé that frame aromas of roasted nuts, peach, pear, anise and clove that evidence almost no exotic elements. There is good richness to the full-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that confers a textured and seductive texture to the beautifully long and silky finish. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Lafon’s. 2006 Meursault Gouttes d’Or displays ripe pear and apple, along with a prominent alkaline mineral character. Penetrating, bright, and overtly chalky, this finishes with a long fruit and mineral colloquy, and invigoratingly bitter hints of citrus zest and quinine. I suspect this Meursault – which Lafon was set to bottle last – can be counted on for 7-10 years of interesting bottle maturation. The 2005 – plush wine with a spine – exhibits a saline, carnal intensity that calls to mind Chablis. Burghound: A maturing nose displays notes of pain grillé that frame aromas of roasted nuts, peach, pear, anise and clove that evidence almost no exotic elements. There is good richness to the full-bodied flavors that brim with dry extract that confers a textured and seductive texture to the beautifully long and silky finish. This is not especially elegant but the depth and punch are impressive plus in the context of the vintage, this finishes quite dry. Note that for my taste this has arrived at its apogee though it should continue to hold well for another 5ish+ years if desired. Producer Information Domaine des Comtes Lafon is a wine producer in Burgundy making some of the most lauded (and highly priced) white wines from Chardonnay in the region. It is located in Meursault in the Côte de Beaune subregion, but has vineyards in three other villages: Chassagne-Montrachet, Volnay and Monthélie. Liqueur: Hardy Le Pineau Des Charentes Le Coq D A delicate bouquet reminiscent of dried fruit, honey and lime tree. It is an intense, elegant, full Pineau. Size: 750ML Proof: 34 (17% ABV) Origin: France Distillery: Maison Hardy This white Pineau des Charentes is made using the Ugni blanc, Folle blanche and Colombard grape varieties, combining the lightly fermented grape must with Cognac eau-de-vie. Golden in colour with hints of honey and dried fruits, and full rounded palate. Served chilled in a fluted glass 8-10 degrees, treat yourself to something different. Hardy Le Pineau Des Charentes Le Coq D Liqueur Tasting Notes Nose: Hints of honey and dried fruits. Palate: Full rounded palate. Finish: A brilliantly seductive mezcal with rich body and a long deep finish. Distillery Information Maison Hardy owes its name to an authentic English gentleman, Anthony Hardy. Like any conscientious wine and spirit merchant, Hardy liked to get out of London as often as he could and head down to Charente to check on the progress of the finest Cognac crus. He finally succumbed to the region’s charms in 1863, relocating permanently and founding Maison Hardy. As a mark of his great affection for France and the French, he went so far as to adopt the Gallic form of his Christian name, henceforth being known as Antoine Hardy. He also adopted the iconic French cockerel as the emblem of his new company.

Producer: Domaine de La Pousse d'Or Vintage: 2005 Size: 750ml ABV: 13% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: France, Cote de Beaune It presents itself with great elegance and charm with precise aromas, imposing but very fine tannins and great length. The château building itself sits in the Clos de l'Audignac site on the southeastern edge of Volany (a certain François Audignac acquired the château/manor in the French Revolution) – one of three monopole vineyards in Volnay owned exclusively by the domaine. Just over the road to the northeast (and vaulting an intermediate premier cru plot) is the Bousse d'Or site while the Clos des 60 Ouvrées (a 2.4 hectare/six acre plot in the upper Caillerets vineyard at the southern end of Volnay) completes the trio. However, other big-name holdings include plots in Corton grands crus the Clos du Roi and Corton Les Bressandes (both planted with Pinot Noir) as well as 0.7 hectares (1.7 acres) in Puligny-Montrachet's Premier Cru Cailleret vineyard. La Pousse d'Or also has vineyards in Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard and Santenay covering around 18 hectares (44.5 acres). Some of these holdings were acquired when the domaine purchased the 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) Domaine Moine-Hudelot in Chambolle-Musigny, in the Côte de Nuits. As a domaine, the estate's history starts to come together in the late half of the 20th Century. The manor house has also been through numerous proprietors, from the d'Audignac family (sometimes spelled "Daudignac") to the...

Medium to full-bodied and velvety-textured, this is a soft, juicy, plump wine. Copious quantities of super-ripe white fruits can be found throughout its expressive character as well as in its admirably long, pure finish. Burghound: This has developed nicely since I last had it with its distinguished nose of ripe pears, spicy oak and honeysuckle that leads to rich, full, very powerful, textured flavors and exceptionally good length. This is still not especially complex but the volume this delivers is impressive and the overall impression is one of seduction yet make no mistake, this is serious juice. While the 2000 Goutte d'Or can certainly be enjoyed now, for my taste there is still a bit more of upside development to be had and I would cellar it for another 2 years or so first. It was Jules' grandson René Lafon who took an interest in the winery and fought to stop the division of the vineyards – a move that secured the future of the domaine. Despite René's intervention, many of the lease agreements with the sharecroppers remained in place for decades. Comtes Lafon was making highly regarded whites in many vintages but without consistency. It wasn't until René's son, Dominique, facilitated the end of the sharecropping agreements in the late 1980s and early '90s that Domaine des Comtes Lafon was able to reach its full potential. In 1995, it adopted organic practices and since 1998 has been entirely biodynamic. Comte Lafon's stand-out wine is its single grand cru Montrachet, which has consistently been listed as one of the most expensive wines in the world. The domaine also has a range of premier cru white and red wines and while the whites have always been highly regarded, its red wines have gained new recognition for their quality in more recent vintages. In 1999 Comtes Lafon expanded into the Mâcon in southern Burgundy with a second label: Les Héritiers du Comtes Lafon.

Twin borthers Pierre and Philippe farm parcels in the limestone and clay soils of Jouy, as well as sites in three other premiere cru villages: Pargny-les-Reims, Villedommange, and Coulommes-la-Montagne. Aubry also farms one and a half hectares of ancient grape varieties still permitted by A.O.C. law. Their plantings of Petit Mesilier, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris) and Arbanne were completed in 1989 to mark the 200 year aniversary of grape growing by the Aubry family. Aubry makes two different cuvees to showcase these rare grapes. The Le Novembre d’Or Veteres Vites blends all seven permissible grapes in the Champagne Appelation: Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc Petit Mesleir, Arbanne, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, and Chardonnay. The Blanc de Blanc Le November d’Or Sable Brut blends Petit Meslier, Arbanne and Chardonnay all from parcels in Jouy-les-Reims. Sable is named for the French word for fettle or fine, referring to this cuvee’s lower atmospheric pressure; four atmospheres, rather than the normal six.

The Nombre d'Or is exotic, racy and full of character. Producer Information In the heart of Petit Montagne de Reims, twin brothers Pierre and Philippe Aubry have shouldered a legacy dating from 1790, with 16.5 hectares from 60 individual locations. Today, Pierre holds a national diploma in enology and Philippe in biology; they run this small company in a highly innovative way. The yield is low and only “coeur de cuvée” is used for the vintage wines. The grapes are divided into five classes according to their quality, and a considerable amount is vinified in old, traditional 205-liter oak barrels. The most remarkable thing about Aubry is that, through almost archaeological search for old plant varieties, they have succeeded in making a brilliant Champagne out of three forgotten grape types: Pinot Blanc, Arbanne, and Petit Meslier. Furthermore many grapevines are planted “en foule,” as they were before phylloxera.

Producer: Domaine Henri Boillot Ratings: D 95 JM 94 Vintage: 2020 Size: 750ml ABV: 13.5% Varietal: Chardonnay Country/Region: France, Burgundy The 2020 vintage is still quite young and will benefit from a few years in the cellar before being opened. Reviews: Decanter: The slightly reductive winemaking has kept a bright, lemony freshness to the wine, yet it is not at all lacking mineral depth. Recent years have seen much less new wood - this is about 25% - and the wine has a compelling purity. Still, there is traditional Meursault richness here, and some hazelnut and butter on the finish. Very well done. From a domaine-owned parcel of 4 ouvrées (0.12ha), this is among the most impressive Gouttes d'Or that I have tasted this trip. Jasper Morris: Pale primrose colour. Rather more elegant in bouquet than Poruzots, super fine, iodine and mineral as well as white fruit flesh, I like the balance of this wine more than the Poruzots. Very persistent with excellent tension. Long tight and classy. Producer Information Domaine Henri Boillot is a wine producer based in Meursault known for its red and white wines from Côtes de Beaune appellations. The estate was named Domaine Jean Boillot until 2005, but was changed when Henri Boillot bought out his siblings in order to distinguish it from his brother's new Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot. Henri had previously set up Maison Henri Boillot for négociant wines and retains these labels to distinguish them from estate wines. A majority of Boillot's white wines are sourced from premier crus in Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, including the entire 4 hectare (10 ac) Clos de la Mouchere vineyard. The domaine's Pinot Noir-based wines come from premier crus in Savigny, Beaune and Volnay. In the vineyard, Boillot avoids the use of insecticides and herbicides. Heavy pruning takes place in spring to limit yields and fruit is harvested as late as possible to ensure maximum phenolic maturity. The Henri Boillot winery is situated in Meursault. The white wines are fermented in 350-liter barrels and bottled after 18 months of barrel ageing. The Pinot Noir is fermented in stainless steel tanks with some stems retained, and then sees 18 months of barrel aging. The premier and grand cru wines under the Maison Henri Boillot label are sourced from single-vineyard plots with single owners to preserve the authenticity of the site.

Producer: Seleque Ratings: WA 94 Vintage: 2016 Size: 750ml ABV: 12.5% Varietal: Pinot Meunier Country/Region: France, Champagne The Soliste Meunier 16 cuvée produced by Jean-Marc Sélèque is an atypical champagne, since it is only composed of Pinot Meunier. This Blanc de Noirs is a fruity and precise champagne. Reviews: Wine Advocate: Rich and seamless, the 2016 Extra-Brut Soliste Meunier Pierry 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or exhibits aromas of ripe yellow orchard fruit, fresh bread, orange oil, white flowers and clear honey. Medium to full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it's deep and complete, with a ripe core of fruit, lively acids and a long, saline finish. Along with the 2015, this is the most vinous, dramatic rendition of this bottling to date, and it's a real success. Producer Information Jean-Marc Sélèque has been in the business since 2008 and is now the third generation to run the winery. It is located at the eastern end of the Vallée de la Marne in the commune of Pierry, which is classified as a Premier Cru. Most of the 9 hectares of vineyards are also located in Pierry, which are spread over 45 plots in the 7 municipalities of Pierry, Moussy, Epernay, Dizy, Mardeuil, Boursault and Vertus. The plants are on average 40 years old and planted with 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Meunier and 10% Pinot Noir. In 2005, a modern and functional cellar was built, which houses steel tanks, oak barrels of various sizes, a concrete egg and a clay amphora for the aging of the base wines. Like many of the young vignerons, Jean-Marc works according to biodynamic ideas. A lot of manual work by the five employees in the vineyard, the use of a horse instead of a tractor and natural substances to fertilize and strengthen the vines ensure the biodiversity of the soil and promote healthy and resistant vines. The statement "the wine is made in the vineyard" sounds a bit trite, but it's true. Therefore, it is always the aim of the winemaker to produce grapes that reflect the terroir as best as possible and result in authentic wines full of character. The plots and grape varieties are vinified and expanded separately in order to later allow for a large scope in the composition of the different bottlings. Grandfather Henri, father Richard and Jean-Marc share a passion for music. They see...

The palate is well balanced with a zesty opening: pink grapefruit, orange zest and a touch of spice, this has good weight on the finish. Reviews: Decanter: The grapes for this wine are from the half-hectare on the border with Porusot. Despite its mid-slope location, this ripens late. The fruit is pressed as whole clusters and fermented in cask, with no more than 15% new. Rather surprisingly for the vintage, there is a lovely green apple and citrus fruit on the nose here and surprising freshness on the palate, although the wine never loses its typical Meursault richness and density. Wine Advocate: The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Les Gouttes d'Or is one of the highlights of the range this year, offering up aromas of citrus oil, honeyed pears, freshly baked bread and white flowers. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's deep and concentrated, with lively acids and a long, penetrating finish. Producer Information Bouchard Père et Fils is a sizable and historic Burgundy wine estate, based in Beaune. The largest vineyard owner in the Côte d'Or, it produces more than 100 wines mostly made from Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, in a range that also includes appellations in the Maconnais, Côte Chalonnaise and Beaujolais regions. The vineyard holdings total around 130 hectares (320 acres), spread across 450 parcels, including 12 hectares (30 acres) of grand crus vines and 74 hectares (183 acres) of premier crus, and four monopole vineyards. Bouchard makes wines from some of Burgundy's most famous vineyards, including Montrachet, Corton-Charlemagne and Chambertin. Its portfolio also includes a range of wines at premier cru and village level, as well as under the more generic Bourgogne appellation. Since 2005, Bouchard's wines have been made at a custom-built winery in Savigny-lès-Beaune. If barrel aging is required, the wines are then matured in oak in a 4000-barrel cellar at the headquarters of the operation in the Château de Beaune, which dates back to the 15th Century. Excavated directly into the earth, this barrel cellar...

Size: 700ML Proof: 92 (46%ABV) Origin: Scotland Distillery: Old Pulteney What we've got here is a whisky from a collection of four limited edition whiskies called The Coastal Series. Old Pultney was inspired by coasts around the world that, like the North Sea air at Pulteney, affect how liquids age and kicks things off with Old Pulteney Pineau des Charentes, a new territory for the brand thanks to the use of casks that carry echoes of the sweet aperitif native to the Charente-Maritime region. Old Pulteney Pineau des Charentes - Coastal Series 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Acacia honey, white pepper, and creamy vanilla with orange peel and dried fruit in support. Palate: Hazelnut whip, nutmeg, oak char, salted caramel, and red apples. Finish: Coastal elements linger with baking spice and toffee sweetness. Distillery Information During the nineteenth century, the town of Wick was the herring fishing capital of Europe and as many as 1,000 boats used the port. Indeed, Pulteneytown, the area of Wick south of the river, was built for this purpose in 1810 by its namesake, Sir William Pulteney. The Pulteney distillery itself was founded by James Hendersen in 1826. Lying close to the coast to the south of Wick, the distillery was only accessible by sea and to this day remains Scotland’s northernmost mainland distillery. The whisky was exported on boats and barley was shipped in and its maritime traditions were such that distillery workers also moonlighted as fishermen. Pulteney operated under Buchanan-Dewar, who became part of Distillers Company Limited in 1925. Five years later the stills of Pulteney fell silent. It was not before two decades had passed, that production restarted, following Robert Cumming’s acquisition in 1951. Allied Breweries purchased the distillery along with parent company James & George Stodart Ltd in 1961. Following the acquisition of Pedro Domecq, Allied sold the Pulteney whisky distillery to Inver House Distillers who remain the owners, though since 2006 they have been under Thai Beverage control. The distillery is relatively small with a capacity of just one million litres annually. Single malt whisky is bottled under the name Old Pulteney and there have been both official and independent releases over the years.

Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and open-knit, it's giving and accessible, concluding with a chalky finish. Producer Information Louis Latour (also known as Domaine Louis Latour) is a major négociant and wine producer in Burgundy. A majority of the wine portfolio is produced from the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wine grape varieties. Established in 1797, the company today continues to be family owned and operated. The domaine has the largest grand cru vineyard holdings of any producer in Burgundy. With roughly 48 hectares (118 ac) of vineyards, the company has a wealth of holdings all over Burgundy, as well as in the south of France in the Ardèche and Var regions. The Latour family have grown grapes as far back as the 17th Century in Aloxe-Corton. They acquired a 125 acre (50 ha) domaine and the Corton Grancey winery was built in 1834. This was built over five levels in order to make wines via gravity flow, the first of its kind in France. While the majority of Louis Latour's vineyard holdings are in Aloxe-Corton (26-ac of these are in the Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru vineyard), the company also makes wines in several other grand cru and premier cru vineyards, including Le Montrachet and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. The large range of wines from Louis Latour are produced based on the terroir of each region and vineyard plot. Red wines are fermented in French oak vats before spending up to 12 months in barrel, while the Chardonnay ferments areconducted in stainless steel prior to oak ageing. In 1979, Louis Latour acquired holdings in the Ardèche river in south-central France to produce Viognier and Chardonnay at a more accessible price point. The same was done with Pinot Noir in the Var region of southeast France. Louis Latour is distributed to...
