Palate: Dense fruitcake leads to demerara sugar and dried herbs. Finish: Lingers with notes of raisins and ginger. Distillery Information The Inchgower distillery was founded as ‘The Great Distillery of Inchgower’ in 1871 by Alexander Wilson and Co. It was intended that Inchgower would utilise the buildings and equipment of the old Tochieneal Distillery. The Inchgower distillery lies in Banffshire not far from the mouth of the River Spey and just on the outskirts of the fishing town, Buckie. The distillery was bought out by Buckie Town Council in 1936, following the bankruptcy of Alexander Wilson and Co. Two years later Arthur Bell and Sons acquired the distillery for £3,000. During the 1960s Arthur Bell and Sons renovated the distillery and installed a further two stills, doubling the total capacity to a little less than two million litres annually. They also included Inchgower Scotch whisky as a component in the popular Bells blend, the vast majority of whisky produced at the distillery, as much as 99%, is used as a blending component. In 1985, Guinness acquired the distillery, and following the merger with Grand Metropolitan, Inchgower is currently under the watchful eye of Diageo. Despite being a relatively small-scale distillery, Inchgower boasts thirteen onsite warehouses which hold up to 60,000 casks. There have been very few official releases, though independent bottlings are available.

Finish: Orange peel, winter spice, and candied fruits, with drying herbs tailing off in the distance. Distillery Information In 1852, William Mackenzie founded Dailuaine Distillery. Dailuaine derives from the Scottish Gaelic ‘An dail uaine’ meaning ‘green valley’, named most probably for those elegant undulations of the Spey valley in which the Dailuaine whisky distillery lies.William had also been a farmer who worked in the Carron area. Following his death in 1865, William Mackenzie’s wife leased the distillery to a banker from Aberlour called James Fleming, who, with William’s son, formed Mackenzie and Company in 1879. Five years later an extensive rebuild commenced, leaving the distillery as one of Scotland’s largest. Another five years on and Charles Doig built Scotland’s first pagoda roof, which graced the distillery until it collapsed in 1917 after a menacing conflagration desecrated the buildings.

Palate: Currant buns and gooey flapjack are followed by hearty layers of toasted spices, malt loaf, and roasted nuts. Finish: Ginger, cinnamon and just a touch of fennel finish things off. Distillery Information The Glen Garioch distillery may well be Scotland's first licensed distillery. Varying dates are given as to the founding of the distillery, but all are predated by an article in the Aberdeen Journal on the 1st December 1785, which announced the first distillation of spirit at the site. Glen Garioch (pronounced ‘Glen Geery’) lies at the village of Old Meldrum in Aberdeenshire. The distillery buildings sit huddled on a little outcrop flecked with heather gorse and grasses and surrounded by barley pastures - it is said that some of the best barley in Scotland is to be found there. Having changed hands many times over the course of the 19th and early 20th centuries, Glen Garioch distillery was shut down in 1968. Stanley P Morrison acquired the distillery two years later. In 1973, following extensive renovations, production resumed. The whisky produced was much more reminiscent of traditional Highland single malts, this was due in part to the floor maltings at the distillery and the malt maker’s schooling on Islay, where he learnt the joys of peated whiskies. At a time when the Islay malt whiskies were very fashionable, Glen Garioch’s new, robust character did much for the fortunes of the distillery. The floor maltings were decommissioned in 1979, though recently there has been much talk of using them once more. Today, the distillery is under the Japanese Suntory ownership, after they acquired Morrison Bowmore in 1994. Glen Garioch currently runs at three quarters of capacity, producing around 700,000 litres per annum and selling roughly one third of this yearly, much being exported for the Asian market. Palate A touch of ginger, candied orange peel and lemon drop sweeties, with delicate spice and hints of marshmallow. Finish Grapefruit, mint chocolate, pepper, and anise. Distillery Information Auchentoshan is a Scottish distillery known for producing some of the lightest and most delicate whiskies in the world. The Auchentoshan distillery is located in the Lowlands of Scotland, and has been in operation since 1823. Auchentoshan whiskies often have a floral aroma and a sweet flavor profile. Auchentoshan (pronounced ‘OKKen-TOSHan’) is one of the few triple-distilled single malts in Scotland. In May 2008 Auchentoshan went through a revamp. Bottle labels were altered, the range was changed and the visitor centre was renovated. The origins of the distillery are quite shrouded, it originally started life under the name ‘Duntocher’, which was first mentioned around the turn of the nineteenth century. In 1834, it was renamed Auchintoshan, taking from the Gaelic ‘achad oisnin’ or ‘corner of the field’. Auchentoshan lies only just within the Lowlands and, although a Lowlander, Auchentoshan’s water source – near the Cochna Loch in the Kilpatrick Hills is in the Highlands. During the Second World War, bombing on the Clydebank shipyards, which lie in close proximity, left the Auchentoshan distillery greatly damaged with a substantial loss of spirit. In 1948, reconstruction began and the distillery was also given the new, modern spelling ‘Auchentoshan’. In 1984, the Auchentoshan distillery was bought by Morrison Bowmore, which itself became a subsidiary of the Japanese company Suntory a decade later. None of the current range is peated, and at the heart lies the 2008 release, ‘Classic’, an eighteen year-old and ‘Three Wood’; matured in Oloroso, Pedro Ximinez Sherry and Bourbon casks.

The 2013 vintage Island single malt Scotch whisky was matured in a single refill barrel (cask #DL18142), which yielded 245 bottles at the Old Particular preferred strength of 48.4% ABV. Arran 10 Year Old 2013 Cask #18142 - Old Particular Douglas Laing Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Very elegant and precise aromas. Palate: A rich, complex, and smooth taste. Finish: Long, delicate and complex. Distillery Information The distillery is situated to the East of the village of Lochranza at the North of the island and takes its water from the Loch na Davie. Founded in 1993, by Chivas Brothers’ retiring managing director, Harold Currie, the distillery is the only one on the Isle of Arran since the most recent legally run distillery, ‘Lagg’, was closed in 1837. Mr Currie stylized the buildings with the intention of giving them a much more traditional, classic appearance. During the early stages of building, work was briefly interrupted when a pair of Golden Eagles, nesting in the crags above the distillery, tended to their young. The eagles can be seen, to this day, from the courtyard at the distillery. Production began on the 17th August 1995. A year later and a one year old was released, of course not technically a whisky, it was released as ‘Arran 1 Year Old Spirit’, and showed great promise for a spirit still in its proverbial adolescence. The core expressions include a ten year old, officially released in 2006, and a cask-strength, the ominously named ‘100 Proof’. Yearly single cask special editions are released, finished in either sherry or bourbon butts. Some interesting finishes have also been released, including a Bordeaux, a port and a Calvados. 2010 saw the release of a 15th anniversary bottling, released on the distillery open day on 3 July. Autumn 2010 also saw the release of the first official 14 year old to be released by the distillery. The first peated Arran single malt, Machrie Moor, has been available since December 2010. In 2017, business growth saw two more stills added to the Lochranza site. In the same year, a special bottling was released to celebrate distillery manager...

Distillery Information The River Laggan journeys many miles through Islay, cutting its course through ferrous rocks, peat bog, moss and grassy mound, ‘til it finds itself at the Western harbour town of Bowmore, Islay’s capital. Their whisky distillery produces some two million litres annually and adheres to strict traditions; production methods have scarcely changed in two centuries. Founded in 1779, by John Simpson, Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery. Following purchase in 1837, by William and James Mutter, the distillery was resold in 1892 to the Bowmore Distillery Company Ltd. Changing hands twice during the late 1920s, in 1963 the distillery was purchased for £117,000 by Stanley P Morrison. Bowmore has had a long affiliation with Japanese pioneers Suntory, who acquired a stake in the company during the late 1980s. In 1994, they bought the company outright. Bowmore enjoys a curious middle-ground as far as flavour is concerned; far from being a lighter offering - à la Northern Islay-based Bunnahabhain - the spirit is not as heavily peated nor as smoky, as its three Southern cousins surrounding Port Ellen.

Distillery Information The Linkwood distillery sits in Elgin, drawing its water from the springs of Millbuies Loch. Next to the distillery is a large and rather beautiful reservoir which plays host to a variety of local wildlife including ducks and swans, the latter can be seen gracing the label of the twelve year-old bottling. Linkwood is home to two stillhouses, Linkwood A, which is currently not in use, houses the two original stills and Linkwood B, in which a further four stills operate. The distillery has a capacity of 2.24 million litres per annum and the majority of the whisky produced is used for blending, notably in Johnnie Walker. Thanks to Diageo there have been, of late, several single malt whiskies released from Linkwood. In 2008, three twenty-six year-olds were launched, notable for their 50cl bottles and having spent the last fourteen years of their maturation in either rum, red wine or port casks. There have been quite a number of independent bottlings in recent times, joining a few special editions and the Flora and Fauna twelve year-old. The Linkwood distillery was founded in 1821 by Peter Brown and rebuilt fifty-one years later following William Brown’s inheritance of the distillery in 1868. Linkwood is currently under Diageo ownership following Scottish Malt Distillers takeover in 1933 and their subsequent amalgamation to form the drinks giant.

Glen Ord 10 Year Old 2014 Cask #19106 - Old Particular (Douglas Laing) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Satisfying and charming aromas. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information One of but a handful of Scotch whisky distilleries that possess onsite barley maltings, Glen Ord has a decidedly large maltings capacity of around 36,000 tonnes annually, thus it also provides malt for several other Diageo-owned distilleries. The Glen Ord distillery lies in the village of Muir of Ord to the north of Inverness. It was during the 13th century that King Alexander III gave areas of land to the Mackenzie’s of Ord. In 1820, Thomas Mackenzie inherited a plot of land and used much of it to grow barley. The Black Isle, as the area is known, has long since been associated with the cultivation of barley and accordingly the Ord Distillery Company was founded in 1838 and licensed to Donald MacLennan and Robert Johnstone. The pair filed for bankruptcy some nine years later, but continued to run the distillery illegally until Thomas McGregor and Alexander McLennan applied for a new licence in 1855. There have been several bottlings over the years, including a few limited releases and a couple of twelve year-olds, including the Singleton of Glen Ord, which is destined for Asian consumers.

Today, Tormore has a capacity of 3.7 million litres annually, all of which is filled at Chivas Bros warehouses. Some of the spirit is returned for maturation at the distillery. Allied Domecq acquired Tormore in 1989 and five years later the first official house bottling was released, Tormore twelve year-old.
