Size: 700ML Proof: 99.8 (49.9%ABV) Origin: Scotland Distillery: Bowmore This 39-year-old single malt from Bowmore pays homage to the White Tiger of the West, one of the four gods found in Chinese Constellations. The fourth and final release in the Chinese Mythical Guardians Series was aged in sherry before 888 bottles were filled at 49.9% ABV. Bowmore 39 Year Old Four Guardian Collection - Tiger of the West Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Impressive and charming nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The River Laggan journeys many miles through Islay, cutting its course through ferrous rocks, peat bog, moss and grassy mound, ‘til it finds itself at the Western harbour town of Bowmore, Islay’s capital. Their whisky distillery produces some two million litres annually and adheres to strict traditions; production methods have scarcely changed in two centuries. Founded in 1779, by John Simpson, Bowmore is Islay’s oldest distillery. Following purchase in 1837, by William and James Mutter, the distillery was resold in 1892 to the Bowmore Distillery Company Ltd. Changing hands twice during the late 1920s, in 1963 the distillery was purchased for £117,000 by Stanley P Morrison. Bowmore has had a long affiliation with Japanese pioneers Suntory, who acquired a stake in the company during the late 1980s. In 1994, they bought the company outright. Bowmore enjoys a curious middle-ground as far as flavour is concerned; far from being a lighter offering - à la Northern Islay-based Bunnahabhain - the spirit is not as heavily peated nor as smoky, as its three Southern cousins surrounding Port Ellen. Today, Bowmore produces a heralded malt and the second best-selling Islay whisky after the leviathan Laphroaig. The range is quite large and independent bottlings have been released as well as a core range of acclaimed house bottlings, including the rare 1993 released Black Bowmore, a 1964 vintage whose initial asking price was around £2,500. Distillery Information The Cragganmore distillery was founded in 1869 by John Smith, who managed The Macallan and The Glenlivet distilleries. Sited close by the main Speyside railway line and in close proximity to the elegant River Spey, the Cragganmore whisky distillery draws its water from the mineral-rich Craggan Burn, which tumbles down its namesake, the Craggan More hill. Of the 1.52 million litres the distillery produces annually, the majority is used for blending, for blenders have always revered the spirit. Today, it can be found in Old Parr, among other blended Scotch whiskies. The name derives from the Scottish Gaelic ‘creagan mór’ or ‘big rock’. In 1901, Cragganmore was among many whisky distilleries to benefit from the architectural skill of Charles Doig, the Elgin-based architect, who renovated the buildings. The stills, which have numbered four since 1964, have an unusual shape with a flat top. This is said to contribute to the unique character of the spirit. At present, Cragganmore is under Diageo ownership and has been featured accordingly in their Classic Malts range. There are currently several independent bottlings as well as a substantial core range.

Benriach 21 Year Old 1999 Sponge Edition No.21 (Decadent Drinks) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: It has very pleasant and lovely aromas. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information Benriach Distillery was founded in 1898 by John Duff. The Speysider has overcome a chequered history that began with opening just a year before The Pattison crash of 1899 followed by years of dormancy or changing of hands. Following monetary difficulties the distillery was sold to the Longmorn Distilleries Company, who closed it at the turn of the twentieth century. Benriach, named for the Gaelic for ‘speckled mountain’, saw an upturn in fortunes in the 1960s, however, and from 1965 onwards was run by new owners The Glenlivet Distillers. Seagrams purchased the distillery in 1978, then in 1985 two extra stills were added bringing the total to four. When Pernod Ricard took over Seagram’s whisky division in 2001 Benriach was mothballed, but in April of 2004, Benriach was sold, along with several thousand casks, for £5.4million to the South African company, Infra Trading, combining their efforts with Burn Stewart director Billy Walker. They reopened the distillery the following year and soon established the Benriach Distilling Co. In 2008, the Benriach Distilling Co acquired a second distillery from Chivas Brothers in the shape of GlenDronach, before adding Glenglassaugh Distillery to its portfolio in 2013. Brown-Forman, the Louisville, Kentucky-based producer of Jack Daniel's, in-turn bought the Benriach Distilling Co in 2016 for £281 million.

It was aged in a first-fill hogshead cask since 2003 and bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.1% ABV. Glen Garioch 21 Year Old 2003 Decadent Drams (Decadent Drinks) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Rich and delicate nose. Palate: The palate is very powerful and complex. Smooth texture. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The Glen Garioch distillery may well be Scotland's first licensed distillery. Varying dates are given as to the founding of the distillery, but all are predated by an article in the Aberdeen Journal on the 1st December 1785, which announced the first distillation of spirit at the site. Glen Garioch (pronounced ‘Glen Geery’) lies in the village of Old Meldrum in Aberdeenshire. The distillery buildings sit huddled on a little outcrop flecked with heather gorse and grasses and surrounded by barley pastures - it is said that some of the best barley in Scotland is to be found there. Having changed hands many times over the course of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the Glen Garioch Distillery was shut down in 1968. Stanley P Morrison acquired the distillery two years later. In 1973, following extensive renovations, production resumed. The whisky produced was much more reminiscent of traditional Highland single malts, this was due in part to the floor maltings at the distillery and the malt maker’s schooling on Islay, where he learned the joys of peated whiskies. At a time when the Islay malt whiskies were very fashionable, Glen Garioch’s new, robust character did much for the fortunes of the distillery. The floor maltings were decommissioned in 1979, though recently there has been much talk of using them once more. Today, the distillery is under the Japanese Suntory ownership, after they acquired Morrison Bowmore...

Highland Park 21 Year Old 2003 Cask #924 - Fruitful Spirits Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Light, heathery peat, lifted by soft fruit sweetness and honeyed malt. Palate: Rich and rounded, with bright fruit layered over gentle peat smoke and malt depth. Finish: Lingering and harmonious, with fading smoke and warm, mellow fruit tones. Distillery Information Highland Park is Scotland’s northernmost whisky distillery, lying just to the North-east of fellow Orcadian, Scapa. Orkney is a rugged, beautiful island and the Highland Park distillery sits on a hillside near Kirkwall. Not far off, are sweeping plains of barley field and the rocky outcrops which protrude ominously from the ground. The sea beats the coast; her salty air and the island’s geology contribute to the rich character of Highland Park single malts. The distillery draws its water from the mineral rich springs to the east of the distillery as well as the Crantit Spring. Highland Park was founded in 1798, by David Robertson on what was once the site of Magnus Eunson's cottage. Eunson was not only a beadle at the local church but also a notorious smuggler. Highland Park was officially licensed in 1826. After James Borwick inherited the distillery in 1869, the production at Highland Park was slowed; James was a priest and believed that whisky production contradicted with his religious status. Accordingly, in 1876 Stuart and Mackay moved in and dramatically helped sales through overseas exportation. In 1895, James Grant of Glenlivet fame acquired the Highland Park distillery. Three years later he installed further stills, bringing the total to four. One of the few Scotch whisky distilleries to operate onsite floor maltings, Highland Park’s weekly malted barley production of 35 tonnes supplies twenty percent of its own malt requirements, the remainder is shipped in from Simpson’s and Edrington’s maltings respectively. £18 million was spent relaunching the brand; the range was repackaged and remarketed and the buildings were extensively renovated. Highland Park’s future is bright having recently overtaken Islay giant Lagavulin in terms of sales.

Chocolate-coated Brazil nuts. Distillery Information Over the course of Loch Lomond’s existence, the distillery has released seven different malts. Four of them were destined for blending, the remaining three were intended to be bottled as single malt whiskies, though most have been released as such over the years. Bottlings have been under the names: Inchmurrin, Inchmoan, Inchfad, Crotengea, Glen Douglass, Craiglodge and, naturally, Loch Lomond, each with varying peat levels. The name Loch Lomond is used for single malt releases though it is also used for a blended Scotch produced onsite using both grain and malt whisky. Loch Lomond was in such a good position to release so many different whiskies as it had an unusual set up of stills. There were three sets of stills, two were fitted with rectification columns as well as five continuous stills. Loch Lomond sits in an industrial complex, once home to Britain’s earliest car factory. The distillery was built in 1965 by the Littlemill Distillery Company Ltd, under the ownership of Duncan Thomas and American Barton Brands. Production began a year later. The distillery has a total yearly capacity of four million litres, though just 2.5 million litres of malt whisky are produced. However, the distillery turns out ten million litres of grain whisky per annum. The distillery closed in 1984 and it was acquired a year later by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd. In 1987, production began once more and six years later a Coffey Still was installed. The final pair of stills were installed in 1999, for two years prior, the distillery had experienced a devastating fire and as much as 300,000 litres of whisky was lost.

It was aged for 21 years and bottled without added colour or chill filtration. Glen Scotia 21 Year Old - Pre 2015 Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Ground mixed nuts and spice. Hints of citrus rind and toffee. Palate: Treacle and hints of gingernut biscuits. Tropical fruit and a malt. Finish: Creamy, sweet finish with manuka honey and toasted pecans. Distillery Information Glen Scotia is one of just three distilleries in Campbeltown producing single malt at the moment (along with Springbank and Glengyle). It was founded in 1832 by Stewart, Galbraith and Co and sited to the north of the town. The distillery draws its cooling waters from the Crosshill Loch and two bore holes, drilled over twenty metres into the rock below. Campbeltown was the capital of Scotch whisky production before the US Prohibition was enacted. There were some twenty-eight distilleies, though after the act was passed only three survived. Glen Scotia was acquired by West Highland Malt Distillers in 1919 and five years later the company went bankrupt. Duncan MacCallum, a director, purchased the company. The distillery was closed again in 1928 and a couple of years later, following great financial trouble, Duncan MacCallum threw himself into the very loch from which the Glen Scotia distillery draws its water. It is said that his ghost haunts the distillery. Glen Scotia survived the Second World War, having restarted production in 1933 after the repeal of Prohibition. In 1954, Hiram Walker acquired the distillery and shortly after it was purchased by A Gillies and Co. In 1979, £1 million was spent on reconstruction which lasted until 1982 and two years later the distillery closed once more. Glen Scotia was acquired by Glen Catrine Bonded Warehouse Ltd and in 2000 Loch Lomond distillery took over, providing staff and running the operations. Today, the Glen Scotia produces 100,000 litres annually - substantially lower than its three quarter million capacity. The distillery now has a staff of just two; James Grogan, the long time stillman, and Hector Gatt of Springbank fame. There have been several official releases and a few independent bottlings.
