Distillery Information One of a few distilleries built to produce blending whisky, GlenAllachie (pronounced ‘Glen-al-ACK-ee’) was founded by Mackinlay, McPherson and Co to provide malt whisky for Mackinlay blends. The distillery stands in the heart of Speyside, at the foot of Ben Rinnes and in relatively close proximity to Aberlour. Both whisky distilleries draw their water from springs in the mountains. All of the three million litre annual production is intended for blending and it is rare to find single malt whisky from the GlenAllachie distillery. All of the spirit is matured onsite in ex-bourbon casks; the distillery boasts fourteen onsite warehouses. The building was planned as early as 1940, by the famed architect William Delmé-Evans, designer of Isle of Jura, though GlenAllachie was not founded until 1967. Invergordon Distillers acquired Charles Mackinlay Ltd from Scottish and Newcastle Breweries Ltd. The deal included the Isle of Jura and GlenAllachie distilleries. Following a brief closure in 1987, Campbell Distillers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard, acquired the distillery in 1989. GlenAllachie was later transferred to Chivas Brothers hands. 2005 saw the first official GlenAllachie bottling, a 15 year old cask strength expression, distilled when the distillery was reopened in 1989. In July 2017, Chivas Brothers announced plans to sell GlenAllachie to The GlenAllachie Distillers Company, operated by former BenRiach MD Billy Walker, along with Graham Stevenson and Trisha Savage, both previously from Inver House. In April 2018 six single cask bottlings were released, with GlenAllachie’s first core range of four single malts released in June 2018.

Palate: Oily and mouth coating, dried mango and fruitcake with an earthiness and leather. Finish: Medium length of cloves, candied ginger and dark cherry. Distillery Information Ben Nevis sits just at the base of its namesake, Scotland’s highest mountain. A coastal distillery in the Western Highlands, Ben Nevis draws its water from the Allt a’Mhuilinn which originates from two pools, Coire Leis and Coire na’Ciste, which are both sited a good way up the mountain. The distillery was founded in 1825, by the gloriously named ‘Long John’ MacDonald, for whom the renowned Long John blended Scotch was named. After Long John’s death in 1856, ownership was passed down to Donald McDonald, his son. A second distillery was sited nearby in 1878 and named Nevis Distillery. In a bid to keep up with growing demand, both distilleries eventually became one in the early twentieth century. The distillery joined the ranks of those experimenting with continuous distillation, installing a Coffey still in 1955 which remained on the site for twenty-six years. The famed Japanese company Nikka acquired the distillery in 1989 and subsequently the quality was markedly improved. The heart of the range has been, for some time, the ten year-old. There have also been a few cask-finishes, limited editions and independent bottlings, notably from Blackadder and Douglas Laing. In 1991, a visitor centre was opened, utilizing the wealth of tourists in the area, particularly those travelling to the rocky peak above the distillery.

Palate: On the palate it is very elegant, rich and full-bodied. Finish: Quite delicate and smooth texture on the long finish. Distillery Information Glentauchers’ make has always gone into blends which lie on the lighter side of the flavour spectrum, initially Buchanan’s and Black & White, and these days Ballantine’s. Accordingly, the set up – long ferments, slow distillation – has always been one where flowers have been preferred to earthy weight.

Finish: Elegant long lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information Caol Ila was founded to the North of Islay in 1846 by the pleasingly-named Hector Henderson. It is located near Port Askaig and sits in lush, floral surroundings, overlooking the cove and the Paps of southern Jura. The distillery draws its water from Loch Nam Ban, whose waters travel through limestone and peat before reaching their beneficiary, Caol Ila. The whisky distillery was sold to Norman Buchanan in 1852 and then, following monetary hardship, to the Glasgow-based blenders Bulloch, Lade and Co who renovated the buildings in 1879. Following liquidation, Distillers Company Ltd acquired Caol Ila and the distillery was subsequently transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers. The capacity is moderate at 3.65 million litres annually, the majority of which is used in Johnnie Walker blends. Just 5% is kept for maturation as single malt. From 1999, unpeated single malts have been experimented with and in 2006 the first unpeated bottling was released in the form of an eight year-old. Caol Ila, whose name derives from the Gaelic for ‘Sound of Islay’, has been included in the Diageo Classic Malts range, exhibiting twelve and eighteen year-old expressions as well as a Moscatel-finished Distillers Edition. Independent bottlings can also be found.

Ardnamurchan 7 Year Old 2018 - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Rich and delicate nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The Ardnamurchan Distillery, on Scotland’s west coast, is a standout in the whisky world. It uses both old crafting methods and new, sustainable practices. Located on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula, it makes single malt Scotch whisky. This whisky captures the feel of its wild and charming surroundings. Adelphi Distillery Ltd. runs Ardnamurchan. They commit to being eco-friendly. It's one of the few distilleries using local, sustainable resources. They get power from a hydroelectric generator, using water from a nearby river. Biomass boilers, fed with local woodchip, make heat. These methods mix quality whisky making with being sustainable. They cut the carbon footprint and help the local environment. Ardnamurchan’s whisky-making uses old methods. They focus on developing flavour and maturing the whisky. They use local resources, maturing the whisky in the coastal air. This might add complexity to the spirit. The sea air might give the ageing whisky a unique sea character. This would reflect where it's made. Although new to the industry, the distillery focuses on quality, not quantity. Their whiskies are well-made. They aim to show the spirit of their area. Their whiskies respect old Scotch profiles. But they also tell the story of their origin. They might have sea salt, rich fruit, or brine notes. These could come from the surrounding land and climate. Ardnamurchan’s bottles have a special feature. Each has a blockchain-enabled QR code. This lets consumers track the spirit from barley to bottle. This openness is rare in whisky. It lets consumers fully trace the product. It also connects them more to the land, people, and methods behind each bottle.

Lying in the prime pastures of the Livet Glen, at the heart of Speyside, the young distillery sits in close proximity to The Glenlivet. To avoid confusion, the distillery dropped the Glenlivet suffix in 1994 to become Braeval. During the 1970s the still capacity was increased dramatically, with a final still added, to total six in 1978. At an altitude of 350m, Braeval stands as the highest distillery in Scotland. Braeval was built on a mountain ridge, sharing its water source, the Pitilie Burn, with the highland based Aberfeldy. No official bottlings have been released, but there are two Braeval whiskies available as part of Aberko Ltd’s Deerstalker range. The distillery closed in October of 2002, following Pernod Ricard’s acquisition of Chivas Brothers the previous year. After renovation and refurbishment the distillery was reopened in July of 2008 - a year when Chivas reopened several silent distilleries in their portfolio. A thoroughly modern distillery, despite its old-fashioned, classic aesthetics, Braeval can be operated by just one worker, though nonetheless the capacity is quite substantial at 3.8m litres per annum.

Following his death in 1865, William Mackenzie’s wife leased the distillery to a banker from Aberlour called James Fleming, who, with William’s son, formed Mackenzie and Company in 1879. Five years later an extensive rebuild commenced, leaving the distillery as one of Scotland’s largest. Another five years on and Charles Doig built Scotland’s first pagoda roof, which graced the distillery until it collapsed in 1917 after a menacing conflagration desecrated the buildings.

Royal Brackla 16 Year Old 2008 - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Great elegance and charm on the nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The Bacardi-owned Royal Brackla gained its regal prefix in 1835 when King William IV bestowed a Royal Warrant upon the distillery. It was the first distillery to attain such an accolade and the spirit was heralded accordingly as the ‘King’s own whisky’. Lying in blissful serenity in the Highlands, not far South of the town of Nairn, Brackla's life blood is the pure waters of the Cawdor Burn. Its capacity today is large at some 3.9 million litres and all of this, save for a few thousand casks, is used in Dewar’s blended products. The distillery was founded in 1812, by Captain William Fraser and it was not until 1919 that it parted from Fraser-family hands, after it was acquired by the Aberdeen-based James Leict and John Mitchell. Brackla ran in-house maltings for some time, though they were closed in 1966. Four years later the still capacity was increased with the addition of two further stills. Royal Brackla is currently under John Dewar and Sons ownership - Dewars was acquired by Bacardi in 1998, ending Diageo tenure, save for the warehousing which the drinks giant still rent as part of a long time lease. Accordingly Royal Brackla spirit is matured elsewhere. An official ten year-old was released in 2004 and there have been several independent bottlings throughout the years.

An independent release of 312 bottles from Woodrow's of Edinburgh. Auchroisk 9 Year Old 2016 Cask #807630A-B - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Great elegance and charm on the nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Producer Information The Auchroisk distillery was built by Justerini & Brooks in 1974, to ensure a steady supply of malt whisky for their J&B blend. The land and springs, including the water source, Dorie’s Well, were bought for £5million. Although launched as a blending malt, master blender Jim Milne declared the quality of the bourbon-matured whisky sound enough to be sold as single-malt; however, it was still missing something. Accordingly, the spirit was given a year in sherry casks, which produced a much fuller, and fundamentally, more complex flavour. Although not sold as Auchroisk (pronounced ‘OH-thrusk’) - the company deemed the name difficult to read - the distillery’s own bottlings were first sold, up until 2001, under the name Singleton and in 1986 the first bottling, a twelve year-old, was released under this name. A very large distillery with substantial storage facilities- enough to hold 265,000 casks - Auchroisk is large enough to hold storage for other distilleries as well. Originally part of the group IDV, comprising of W A Gilbey and Justerini & Brooks, in February of 1972 the group was purchased by Watney Mann and, in July, merged with Grand Metropolitan. After the merger between Guinness and Grand Metropolitan in 1997, Auchroisk is currently under the ownership of Diageo. The distillery is still young and, as such, the range is small, based mainly around the ten year-old.

Glen Elgin 15 Year Old 2009 - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Delicate and impressive depth on the nose. Palate: The palate is an explosion of delicate flavors, nice and delightful mouthfeel. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The buildings of the Glen Elgin distillery are rather modest, this being due to a lack of funding when it was first built in 1898. The whisky distillery was designed by the renowned Charles Doig, who heralded from the namesake town, Elgin. Despite the size and the decidedly low annual production capacity of 1.83 million litres, the Glen Elgin distillery enjoys world wide popularity, selling nearly nine million bottles a year. The building was financed by the North of Scotland banker James Carle and William Simpson of Glenfarclas fame. Having begun distillation at the turn of the 20th century, Glen Elgin closed down just months later. In 1901, the distillery was acquired at auction by the Glen Elgin-Glenlivet Distillery Company for £4,000. Production began once more, though it only lasted from 1904 to 1905. It was not until Scottish Malt Distillers acquired Glen Elgin in 1930 that its fate improved. To this day, the bulk of whisky production is used for blending, particularly in the White Horse blends; Scottish Malt Distillers having licensed the distillery to White Horse shortly after purchase. In 1964, a further four stills were installed, bringing the total to six. Substantial renovations were carried out on the site and today the 1960s aesthetics remain.

Tamdhu 10 Year Old 2014 Cask #800930B - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Satisfying and charming aromas. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information It was in 1863 that the Strathspey railway first graced Speyside’s locality. A dependable means of travel was, at last, brought to the area and several distilleries were built as a result. Tamdhu was one of them; founded in 1896 by a group of whisky blenders, including William Grant and Sons among others, and designed by the famed, prolific Speyside distillery architect, Charles Doig of Elgin. The distillery is of good size; her six stills have a total capacity of four million litres annually, though at present Tamdhu runs at three quarters of this. Tamdhu installed a substantial Saladin box malting system in 1950. One of but a handful of distilleries with onsite maltings and the only one still using a Saladin box, Tamdhu produces all of its own malt as well as enough to supply other distilleries in the Edrington group, notably the Glenrothes distillery. Tamdhu lies on the banks of the mighty River Spey, not far from Knockando. The Knockando distillery's ancient railway station has since been converted into the Tamdhu visitor centre.

Glentauchers 17 Year Old 2008 Cask #901120A - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Great elegance and charm on the nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Producer Information The Glentauchers whisky distillery was founded in 1897 by W P Lowrie, a Glasgow-based whisky trader, and James Buchanan, a renowned blender. Five years later, Lowrie experienced financial hardship and James Buchanan subsequently bought him out. The distillery was built at Tauchers Farm, four miles west of the town of Keith. The location was chosen for its proximity to a rail line and main road. Indeed, the Glentauchers distillery boasts its own railway siding. The distillery was designed by a Keith-based architect, John Alcock, and the construction was directed by the famed Charles Doig, an Elgin-based architect who was instrumental in the design of many Scotch distilleries. James Buchanan merged with Dewars in 1915 and during the 1920s the distillery went through considerable renovations. This included the rebuilding of the mash house and floor maltings. The newly formed Buchanan-Dewars merged with Distillers Company Limited in 1925 and five years later the distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers. During the 1960s, further stills were installed, bringing the total capacity to 3.4 million litres per annum. In 1985, the distillery was closed down. It was four years later that Caledonian Malt Whisky Distillers, a subsidiary of Allied, acquired the distillery and in August of 1992 spirit flowed from the stills once more. Glentauchers is at present under the watchful eye of Chivas Brothers, following the acquisition of Allied. Recently there have been substantial investments to refurbish the buildings and equipment. The spirit is filled onsite into bourbon casks. The distillery even boasts its own warehousing facilities with space for 6,000 casks. The remainder of the new make spirit is transported to the Chivas central warehouse for maturation. The Scotch whisky from Glentauchers has long since been associated with blends; it is a large component of Ballantines, Teachers and Chivas...

Distilled in 2010, this peated single malt from Tobermory finished its maturation in a first fill sauterenes barrique, yielding 232 bottles when it was opened in 2026. Ledaig 15 Year Old 2010 Cask #56423 - Woodrow's of Edinburgh Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Great elegance and charm on the nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Producer Information Tobermory was originally founded in 1798 by John Sinclair, under the name Ledaig (pronounced ‘led-chigg’), hence the recently released Ledaig range. Closing in 1837 and reopening in 1878, the distillery was acquired in 1890 by John Hopkins and Company. Today, Tobermory is the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. The distillery has quite a small annual capacity of just one million litres and runs at but three quarters of this. In 1930, the distillery closed and was used as a power plant. It was not the only time Tobermory had been used for purposes other than whisky distillation; in 1982 the buildings were leased to a dairy company who used them for storing cheese. Tobermory is currently under Burn Stewart ownership following the acquisition of both the distillery and a good stock of whisky for £800,000. The malted barley is shipped from the Port Ellen maltings at the South-East of Islay, also home to a more recent experiment whereby some casks are sent for maturation on the island, these are bottled as Ledaig. There is now just one official bottling in production; a ten year-old. There have also been independent bottlings and although popularity has been weaning, under the management of Alan McConnochie of Bunnahabhain fame, there is expected to be a resurgence.

It was filled into 219 bottles on 8 July 2024 at 55.3% ABV, natural colour and non-chill-filtered. Aberlour 12 Year Old 2011 Cask #700323 Woodrow's Of Edinburgh Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Sweet aromas of toffee apples, vanilla custard, nutmeg and white chocolate. Palate: Fairly creamy with notes of citrus zest, green apple, honey, all-butter shortbread and cinnamon. Finish: Moderately spiced with white pepper and star anise, and underlying tones of caramelised pear, hazelnuts and continuing vanilla. Distillery Information Aberlour (pronounced ‘Ab-er-LAU-errr’) sits at the base of the rugged mountain range, Ben Rinnes. Nestled in the village of the same name, the distillery was founded by Peter Weir and James Gordon in 1826, though Peter was to pull out a year later. The village lies on the Lour Burn, which converges with the River Spey just 270 metres from the distillery. The 6th century Celtic saint St Drostan, baptised local chiefs in the distillery’s water source. Owned by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard, Aberlour is the seventh bestselling Scotch single malt. The distillery was rebuilt twice due to devastating fire damage; the first rebuild took place in 1879 and was financed by James Fleming, a local banker who relocated it upstream. It was rebuilt again in 1898 and was redesigned by the architect Charles Doig. The core expression, a ten year-old, is a marriage of sherry and bourbon butt and, in 2003, it won the trophy for best single malt at the International Wine and Spirits Competition. Aberlour opened up the doors to its brand new visitor centre in August of 2002, with tours tailored for whisky aficionados rather than hoards of tourists. 2008 was the first time that the 18 year old was introduced outside of France, while 2013 and 2014 saw the release of 2001 White Oak and White Oak Millenium 2004, respectively. Another sherried Aberlour expression made an appearance in 2018, in the form of Casg Annamh, a no age statement single malt.

Size: 700ML Proof: 92 (46% ABV) Age: 13 Year Origin: Scotland Distillery: Strathmill Distillery A full-flavoured Strathmill, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail as part of the inaugural Cask Strength Connoisseurs Choice range. This is a bit weightier than your average Strathmill – usually a lighter whisky that's key in producing J&B's blend – with the bourbon cask adding some creaminess while letting the spirit develop fruity flavours. Strathmill 2004 13 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Fresh and vibrant: banana, pineapple, coconut, pear, and green apple combine and transform into delicate floral layers. With time, a creamy butterscotch undertone develops. Palate: Firm, powerful. A well-balanced attack gives equal footing to aromas of peat, smoke, spices. Finish: Finish is lingering. Distillery Information Strathmill is one of three distilleries within the Moray town of Keith at the heart of "Malt Whisky Country". Bottled at 100 Proof (57.1% ABV) in 2025 without chill-filtration or added colour, it's elegant, rich, and a great choice for those who enjoy Speyside malts with added depth. Strathmill 12 Year Old 2012 - 100 Proof Edition #36 (Signatory) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Honeyed orchard fruits, cinnamon, and hints of dark chocolate. Palate: Ripe plums, spiced toffee, and a touch of nutty oak. Finish: Long and warming, with lingering sherried sweetness and soft spice. Distillery Information Single malt Scotch whisky from the Strathmill distillery is decidedly rare. There has been but one official bottling, discounting the two casks released in 1992 to celebrate the distillery’s centenary, and only a small number of independent releases. There is a dearth of whisky despite the unique, indulgent character that Strathmill Scotch tends to proffer. The distinctive taste is due, in part, to the addition of purifiers on the lyne arms and condensers of the stills, imparting a delicate nature to the whisky. The reason for this, is that the Strathmill distillery has long since produced whisky for blending and is notably a component in Old Master, Dunhill, and most significantly, J&B. It was in 1962, that the gin specialists W & A Gilbey merged with United Wine Traders. They subsequently formed International Distillers and Vintners. Justerini and Brooks were among their number, thus the association with J&B.
