Many other small liquor store sites will end up cancelling your order due to the high demand and unavailability. Size: 700ML Proof: 96 (48%ABV) Origin: Japan Distillery: Miyagikyo One of two releases launched in late 2021 as part of the Nikka Discovery series, the Miyagikyo Peated single malt is made using peated malts, showing off the distillery's smoky side of things. A brilliant Japanese whisky that is well worth exploring for enthusiasts. Miyagikyo Peated (bottled 2021) - Nikka Discovery 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Rich and complex. Subtle notes of toast, dry peat and twigs highlight the distinguished character of the first nose. Allowed to breathe, the peat becomes more intense, almost meatier while simultaneously taking on a light veil of smoke. In the climax, exotic fruit and fresh fig bring lots of breadth and energy to the palette of aromas. Palate: Distinguished and dynamic. The attack is just as exotic, while also revealing both honeyed and floral notes. As for the peat, it finesses itself into every nook and cranny. Covered in a fine layer of ash, the mid-palate is deeply rooty allowing the expression of a refreshing minerality. Finish: Long and well-balanced. At the start of the finish, a chocolate, vanilla and spicy peat takes centre-stage. Tangy flavours of ripe fruit slowly spread across the taste buds. The empty glass precisely replicates the aromas of cigar, wildflowers and black liquorice. Distillery Information Miyagikyo distillery, formerly Sendai and Sakunami, was founded in 1969 as Nikka’s second distillery after the celebrated Yoichi on Hokkaido. As with Yoichi thirty-four years earlier, Miyagikyo was the brainchild of the great Masataka Taketsuru. Supposedly he stumbled upon the picturesque location by chance, instantly realising its potential as a prime spot for whisky production. The distillery has eight pot stills and two pairs of Coffey stills making its capacity more than double that of its more famous elder brother. Award winning in their own right, Miyagikyo’s whiskies are softer than those made at Yoichi making them vital for a number of Nikka products.

Imperial 1979 (bottled 2021) - Private Collection (Gordon & MacPhail) 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Sweet honeycomb notes combine with vanilla custard and a subtle hint of beeswax polish. Cocoa powder develops alongside pecans and soft-baked apple. Palate: Ripe red apples intertwine with clove-studded tangerine. Malted biscuit flavours come to the fore accompanied by chocolate-covered hazelnuts and faint Seville orange zest. Finish: A full and long finish with black pepper and light herbal tones. Distillery Information The Ballintomb Burn rises in the Mannoch Hills before running some two and half miles to the Imperial distillery, not far from the village of Aberlour. The decidedly colonial-sounding Imperial was named for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897; construction having commenced that same year. Thomas Mackenzie founded the Imperial. The distillery was designed by the prolific architect Charles Doig. The distillery lies in Moray, an eminent whisky region, though aesthetically the whisky distillery bares little semblance to its distilling neighbours; Imperial is made of Aberdeen red brick and utilizes an iron framework to protect the buildings from fire damage. Production was halted for two decades following the Pattison Crisis. Imperial reopened in 1919 following its acquisition by a group headed by Distillers Company Limited three years prior. Closing once more in 1925, Imperial did not reopen until it was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers in 1955. The maltings were upgraded a decade later with the addition of a Saladin box. Two further stills were also installed. The distillery had been closed for four years when Allied acquired it in 1989. Allied renovated Imperial and reopened it in 1991. It was mothballed in 1998 and passed on to Chivas Brothers in 2005 following their acquisition of Allied. The distillery remains woefully silent to this day, though there are, however, several independent bottlings and an official expression - a fifteen year-old.

Distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2021, the label carries a charmingly retro design, harking back to Glentauchers releases from decades gone by. Glentauchers 2007 (Bottled 2021) - Distillery Labels (Gordon & MacPhail) 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Fresh orchard fruits, sweet peaches with notes of floral honey, and buttery toasted oak. Palate: Soft vanilla shortbread with gentle lemon zest, sweet roasted malt balances baking spice warmth. Finish: Big creamy barley, more sweet apricot, silken vanilla, crisp zest with a sprinkling of peppery nutmeg. Distillery Information The Glentauchers whisky distillery was founded in 1897 by W P Lowrie, a Glasgow-based whisky trader, and James Buchanan, a renowned blender. Five years later, Lowrie experienced financial hardship and James Buchanan subsequently bought him out. The distillery was built at Tauchers Farm, four miles west of the town of Keith. The location was chosen for its proximity to a rail line and main road. Indeed, the Glentauchers distillery boasts its own railway siding. The distillery was designed by a Keith-based architect, John Alcock, and the construction was directed by the famed Charles Doig, an Elgin-based architect who was instrumental in the design of many Scotch distilleries. James Buchanan merged with Dewars in 1915 and during the 1920s the distillery went through considerable renovations. This included the rebuilding of the mash house and floor maltings. The newly formed Buchanan-Dewars merged with Distillers Company Limited in 1925 and five years later the distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers. During the 1960s, further stills were installed, bringing the total capacity to 3.4 million litres per annum. In 1985, the distillery was closed down. It was four years later that Caledonian Malt Whisky Distillers, a subsidiary of Allied, acquired the distillery and in August of 1992 spirit flowed from the stills once more. Glentauchers is at present under the watchful eye of Chivas Brothers, following the acquisition of Allied. Recently there have been substantial investments to refurbish the buildings and equipment. The spirit is filled onsite into bourbon casks. The distillery even boasts its own warehousing...

Palate: Jammy apple and plum compote, with charred oak, and hints of malt loaf. Finish: Lingering cocoa nibs, vanilla, and a touch of drying oak. Distillery Information The Cragganmore distillery was founded in 1869 by John Smith, who managed The Macallan and The Glenlivet distilleries. Sited close by the main Speyside railway line and in close proximity to the elegant River Spey, the Cragganmore whisky distillery draws its water from the mineral-rich Craggan Burn, which tumbles down its namesake, the Craggan More hill. Of the 1.52 million litres the distillery produces annually, the majority is used for blending, for blenders have always revered the spirit. Today, it can be found in Old Parr, among other blended Scotch whiskies. The name derives from the Scottish Gaelic ‘creagan mór’ or ‘big rock’. In 1901, Cragganmore was among many whisky distilleries to benefit from the architectural skill of Charles Doig, the Elgin-based architect, who renovated the buildings. The stills, which have numbered four since 1964, have an unusual shape with a flat top. This is said to contribute to the unique character of the spirit. At present, Cragganmore is under Diageo ownership and has been featured accordingly in their Classic Malts range. There are currently several independent bottlings as well as a substantial core range.

Delightful and refreshing. Palate: On the palate it is very elegant, rich and full-bodied. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information One of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, the Balblair distillery was founded in 1790 by John Ross. The distillery lies in Edderton in the Northern Highlands, surrounded by rugged mountains, from whence the Allt Dearg - Balblair’s water source - springs. Following John Ross’s death in 1836, the distillery was passed down to his son, Andrew Ross. In 1872, he resited the distillery further up the hills on which it sits and converted the old buildings into warehousing facilities. There is evidence that illicit distillation was carried out in the area of Edderton in the mid eighteenth century. The area was known as the ‘Parish of the Peats’ in reference to the prolific distillation and the abundance of peat in the surrounding soil. The distillery was forced to close during the First World War and did not reopen until 1949, a year after it was acquired for £48,000 by Keith-based lawyer, Robert ‘Bertie’ Cumming. Cumming ran the distillery until his retirement in 1970. In 1996, the distillery was sold by Allied Domecq to its current owners, Inver House Distillers. Just fifteen percent of Balblair’s 1.33 million litre capacity is sold as single malt, though there are many independent bottlings as well as a good range of official bottlings.

St. Magdalene was established at least by 1798 (and possibly as early as 1765). During its early life, it was known as "Linlithgow" after the town in which it was built, and was originally located at Bonnytoun. It moved to the St. Magdalene site in 1834, to be close to the Union Canal. Before the distillery existed, the site was home to a leper colony, convent, and hospital at various points in time between the 12th century and the distillery's 18th-century founding. The distillery took its name from St Magdalene's Hospital, a lazar house which once stood upon the site.

Size: 700ML Proof: 86 (43%ABV) Origin: Scotland Distillery: Brora A rare 1982 vintage from Brora, bottled in 2006 for Connoisseurs Choice by Gordon & MacPhail. This has classic late-era Brora elegance with soft coastal smoke, mineral depth and mature Highland fruit. Brora 1982 (Bottled 2006) - Connoisseurs Choice (Gordon & MacPhail) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 700ML Tasting Notes Nose: Rich and delicate nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information Brora was founded in 1819, originally under the name Clynelish. The distillery was established by the Marquis of Stafford who, after marrying into the Sutherland family, became the first Duke of Sutherland. The distillery was initially intended to take some proportion of local whisky supply away from the smugglers. In 1896, James Ainslie & Heilbron, a Glasgow-based blending company, acquired the distillery and rebuilt it. Brora still retains the floor maltings and kiln that were then installed. In 1967, a build commenced on a new distillery, also named Clynelish, located just across the road from the original Clynelish. The build was completed a year later and the former Clynelish distillery was renamed Brora (pronounced ‘Broar-err’) in 1969. The name derives from the Old Norse ‘Bru’r aa’ meaning ‘the bridges river’. Brora was purchased in 1930 by Scottish Malt Distillers, who later became a subsidiary of Diageo. Closing in May of 1983, the buildings that made up the Brora distillery are now used by the new Clynelish distillery as a visitor centre and warehouse. Clynelish remains active with a large capacity of 4.2m litres per annum thanks to a seven day working week. In October 2017 Diageo said it was going to revive the closed Brora Distillery. In 2021, the very first cask of the reopened Brora was filled, to much joy and excitement.

Today, they have an extensive range of fine, and often rare, single malts, known as Connoisseur’s Choice. In 1993, Gordon and MacPhail purchased the silent Benromach distillery which was reopened by the Prince of Wales in 1998. In 2004, Benromach launched Traditional, the first official release from Benromach since its previous closure.

Size: 700ML Proof: 80 (40%ABV) Origin: Scotland Distillery: Dallas Dhu A rare single malt from the dearly departed Dallas Dhu distillery. Distilled in 1980, the whisky matured until 2000 when it was independently bottled by Gordon & MacPhail. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information Dallas Dhu was originally founded in 1898, under the name Dallasmore by Glasgow-based blenders Wright and Grieg Ltd and designed by Elgin-based distillery architect Charles Doig. Lying in a hollow to the south of Forres and taking its water from the Altyre Burn, the distillery was built on the estate of Alexander Edward of Sanquhar. Renamed Dallas Dhu (pronounced ‘DAL-assDOO’), deriving from the Gaelic ‘dail eas dubh’ or ‘dark water valley’. In 1899, the spirit was used in Wright and Grieg’s blend ‘Roderick Dhu’. The blend had good overseas sales, particularly throughout Australasia and India. The distillery has changed hands several times, following rise and falls in demand. Dallas Dhu was purchased by JP O’Brian in 1919 and then in 1921 by Benmore Distillers Ltd. In 1929, Distillers Company Ltd acquired the distillery and it passed on a year later to Scottish Malt Distillers, now part of Diageo. Following the whisky recession of the 1980s, Dallas Dhu was closed, alongside the first wave of distillery closures, in 1983 and its licence was revoked in 1992. It was reopened in 1988, though not as a distillery; the site now holds a visitor centre and a whisky production museum.

This exceptional 1979 vintage single malt was selected by indie bottler Gordon & MacPhail, who bottled it up in 1994 for the Connoisseurs Choice series, which is still ongoing to this day! Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste. Distillery Information The Port Ellen distillery was founded in 1825 by Alexander Ker Mackay. The distillery lies not far from the centre of its namesake town, Islay’s main port, and draws its waters from the Leorin Lochs. John Ramsay, a local Member of Parliament, acquired the distillery after Mackay went into bankruptcy. Ramsay was a leader in his field and recognised the opportunities that exportation to America could offer. The Port Ellen whisky distillery remained in Ramsay family hands until 1920, when John Dewar & Sons and James Buchanan & Co purchased it, merging with Distillers Company Limited five years later. In 1930, the Port Ellen distillery was transferred to Scottish Malt Distillers. The distillery had ceased whisky production a year prior, but continued to malt barley. Indeed, to this day the maltings at Port Ellen supply most of the distilleries on Islay as well as the Isle of Jura distillery.

A very collectable mini single malt. Glentauchers 1979 (Bottled 1998) (Gordon & MacPhail) Single Malt Scotch Whisky 350ML Tasting Notes Nose: Rich and delicate nose. Palate: Balanced and rich flavors. Finish: Elegant long-lasting aftertaste.
