Small Island Andrea Levy [Very Good] [Hardcover] Small Island Andrea Levy [Very Good] [Hardcover] 68.08 CAD First edition, first printing. Hardback in dustwrapper. 20.5 × 15.5cm, 441pp. It is 1948, and England is recovering from a war. But at 21 Nevern Street, London, the conflict has only just begun. Queenie Bligh's neighbours don't approve when she agrees to take in Jamaican lodgers, but with her husband, Bernard, not back from the war, she has little choice in the matter. Gilbert Joseph was one of the many Jamaican men who joined the RAF to fight Hitler. But when he returns to England as a civilian he doesn't receive the welcome he was expecting, and it's desperation that drives him to knock at Queenie's door. Gilbert's wife Hortense, who for years has longed for a better life in England, soon joins him. But London is far from the golden city of her dreams, and even Gilbert is not the man she thought he was. Small Island explores a point in England's past when the country began to change. In this delicately wrought and profoundly moving novel, Andrea Levy handles the weighty themes of empire, prejudice, war and love, with a superb lightness of touch and generosity of spirit. Condition: The book is in good plus condition, with some very light spotted foxing to the page edges. The dustwrapper has some minor surface abrasion but remains very good and has not been price-clipped.

KROLLER-MULLER HONDRED JAAR BOUWEN EN VERZAMELEN [Very Good] [Hardcover] KROLLER-MULLER HONDRED JAAR BOUWEN EN VERZAMELEN [Very Good] [Hardcover] 85.88 CAD KROLLER-MULLER HONDRED JAAR BOUWEN EN VERZAMELEN 1988 LARGE HARD COVER DUTCH. I am pleased to be able to offer this very large and heavy hard cover book about the Kroller-Muller Museum outside Amsterdam in the Netherlands. It is all in the Dutch language. The book is titled: Kroller-Muller- hondred jaar bouwen en verzamelen (Kroller-Muller- one hundred years of building and collecting). This large hard cover book (8 ¾ x 11 ½ inches, 319 pages) was published by Joh. Enschede en Zonen of Haarlem dated 1988 and is copyright by the Kroller-Muller Foundation of Otterlo. Wikipedia provided, as always, some additional information about the Museum and I offer a bit more here for your further information: The Kröller-Müller Museum is a national art museum and sculpture garden, located in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo in the Netherlands. The museum, founded by art collector Helene Kroller-Muller within the extensive grounds of her and her husband's former estate (now the national park), opened in 1938. It has the second-largest collection of paintings by Vincent van Gogh, after the Van Gogh Museum…The Kröller-Müller Museum is also famous for its large sculpture garden, within the forest park, of more than 75 acres (30 ha) and one of the largest in Europe, with a fine collection of modern and contemporary sculptures. The book is bound in bright yellow boards with green titles on the spine and protected by a pictorial dust jacket. Although much of the book is composed of essays about the Museum, its history and collections, it is also very well illustrated throughout in both color and b&w. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The dust jacket shows some very faint edge wear. The hard covers are clean and bright and very handsome. Inside a former owner has left a small, inked notation referencing some underlining about a sculpture whose work can be seen on page 274. Those are the only marks in the book. The interior pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder.
