Hardcover First Edition - First Printing New York: Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 1969. $4.50 cover price. States "First Edition" on the copyright page which indicates a first printing. Turquoise boards and clothed in a colorful illustrated dust jacket with wrap-around artwork, title and author above and below the illustration. NOTE: NOT x-lib and NOT book club. An animated feature film was produced containing most of the series called "The Black Cauldron". Near Fine in Very Good+ Dust Jacket. An excellent copy, not pristine, typical age-toning to the text-block, common with these children's books produced in the 1960's and 1970's, some shelf wear and wear to the edges. A few small dirt spots on the boards here and there but not too significant. The jacket is definitely in above-average condition, mostly intact, there is a strange clip to the bottom right-hand corner of the front flap, which may have been done by the manufacturer. (Similar "flap clips" appear on other children's books from the same period such as the first edition of "A Wizard of Earthsea" by Ursula Le Guin, published in 1968. which had to do with informational changes.) NO tears or chips on the front or back, but there are some holes on the back edge of the dust jacket at the fold, repaired with bookbinders adhesive but mostly unnoticeable. Small 1/4" also repaired. There is some age-toning to the lighter parts of the jacket, especially the areas above and below the illustration. Still an exceptional copy as most copies went to libraries and schools. NOTE: All modern books with dust jackets come with dust jacket covers. ALSO: The pictures are of the actual items for sale. (The pictures are NOT stock photos.)
