[Signed] [First Edition] The Healing of the Mind: The Technique of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy SIGNED 1st Edition Reuben Fine [Used - Very good]
235.18 CAD
Very uncommon SIGNED 1st edition of this major work by Reuben Fine, who was most known for his domination of the game of chess, being named an international grandmaster in 1950, though his contributions to psychoanalytic study have proven lasting and valuable as well. This volume is from 1971, far less common than its later reprint, and phenomenally uncommon signed. Excellent overall condition. Binding is solid, sturdy, square. Boards clean and firm. Interior has no marks whatsover except for the signature, which is on the front free endpaper in pen, not personalized, just flat signed. Otherwise quite clean, with slight age toning to pages but still fresh. Dustjacket is clean and intact, with some stray rubbing and scuffing, especially to the back panel . Scuffed along the front foredge of the DJ and moderately creased and worn at the bottom edge of the front panel as well, but still quite attractive and now protected in brodart. Altogether an excellent example of this uncommon edition and extremely uncommon signature.

Alfred A. Knopf. New York. 1961. 684 pages + index. First edition, second printing stated, November 1961; only a couple of weeks after the first printing on October 16, 1961. A most rare and uncommon signed copy by the book's artist and illustrator, Sidonie Coryn. Sidonie Coryn signed her name underneath "Illustrations by Sidonie Coryn" printed on the page opposite the title page. Additionally, laid-in is a handwritten, signed letter from Sidonie Coryn on her personal stationary to a friend: Dear ___, / I really didn't forget -/Just a bit of inefficiency on my/ part- The book sold so fast / I couldn't keep up with it- / My best regards for a / Merry Christmas and a / Joyous New Year / to you and your wife- / Sidonie Coryn. Book is tight, bright and clean. Binding and hinges are strong and sound. Minor toning along panel edges. Turquoise endpapers are clean yet front endpaper is age-toned from laid-in paper. Slight darkening to backstrip. Original first issue DJ with Julia Child's name third in the pecking order on front; just above Sidonie Coryn's name. $10.00 price intact on flap. DJ shows open chip on upper right corner, chipping along rear flap fold, and spine of DJ is absent. A solid VG copy of the classic in a poor DJ; signed by the artist of the book's classic illustrations, in addition to a handwritten letter by the artist, commenting on how quickly the book took off. The rest of course is history as this book launched Julia Child's career and celebrity. Worth noting is this book is lauded for its helpful illustrations (Coryn's) and precise attention to detail, and for making fine cuisine accessible. Sixty plus years later, the book is still in print and is considered a seminal culinary masterwork. A much rarer offering than a signed Julia Child copy.

Signed and inscribed by former Trump Administration Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos with thick black Sharpie/marker at the upper section of the full title page. "In this timely new book, Betsy provides a compelling look at the progress made in education under our administration and offers fresh ideas to put America's children first and prepare them to achieve and live the American Dream. This is a book for every parent, grandparent, and concerned citizen who cares about the futre of America and generations to come." - Mike Pence, 48the vice president of the United States. "No one has a bigger heart for students and has done more to ensure parents matter in ecucation than Betsy DeVos. In Hostages No More, sh lays out the path forward to get our education system on the right track." - Bovernor Kim Reynolds, State of Iowa. Long before Betsy DeVos gained national attention as the secretary of education, I witnessed firsthand how passionate and devoted she was to the fundamental right f every child in America to have the best education possible 'regardless of their zip code." - Kathie Lee Gifford. "A strong America requires every child to get a great education. Too many families are denied that right today. This must change. The prolonged and unnecessary closure of schools during the coronavirus pandemic opened the eyes of parents to this truth. But the story didn't begin there. Horace Mann, the nineteenth-century creator of America's industrial-style public education system, once said: "We who are engaged in the sacred cause of education are entitled to look upon all parents as having given hostages to our cause." Today, it's those who control America's public schools - politicians, bureaucrats, school union bosses, and progressive elites - holding kids hostage to advance their destructive, self-centered causes. They use their power to control what, where, and how America's students learn. From Common Core math to coronavirus school closures to critical race theory, students have been held hostage to the education establishment's preferred ideology and grip on power. From her unparalleled perspective and experience, former U.S. secretary of education Betsy DeVos explains how schooling came to be this way and what parents and students can do to change it. In Hostages No More, DeVos unleashes her candid thoughts about working in the Trump administration, recounts her battles over the decades to put students first, hits back at "woke" curricula in our schools, and provides a guide for parents on how they can help fix our broken education system. And she has stories to tell. DeVos offers blunt insights on the people and politics that stand in the way...
