Inside in excellent clean and bright condition. A very nice copy of this monograph, a comprehensive survey of traditional Malekulan ethnography, based on Deacon's own field observations during the period of 1925-1927, and the memories of his native informants dealing with earlier historical periods. Deacon was a brilliant young ethnologist who in 1925 went out from Cambridge to study the natives of the northern New Hebrides, and particularly of the large island of Malekula. After more than a year's intensive work he fell victim to blackwater fever and died. A great loss to the field of ethnology.
