[First Edition] Beyond Peace - Richard Nixon 1994 First Edition, Near-Fine w/ Gift Inscription Richard Nixon [Used - Near fine] [Hardcover]
85.13 CAD
A policy manifesto by the thirty-seventh President of the United States in which Richard Nixon argues that the end of the Cold War presents a historic opportunity for the United States to move 'beyond peace' - to pursue a broader mission of renewal and global leadership. Drawing on his extensive experience in foreign affairs, Nixon examines policy toward Russia, Europe, China, the Muslim world, and the developing world while also addressing domestic challenges such as crime, entitlement policy, and civic renewal. The book is arranged as a series of concise, issue-focused essays illustrated with contemporary examples and Nixon's prescriptions for American leadership in the post-Cold War era. Printed shortly after Nixon's death: Nixon died on April 22, 1994, and this book was printed in May 1994 (colophon reads 'Printed in U.S.A. 5/94'), so Beyond Peace reached press and publication immediately following his death - a fact that adds contextual interest as one of his final works. Inscription / Provenance: neat personal gift inscription in blue ink on the front free endpaper: 'June 16, 1994 - Dearest Peter - 'Happy Birthday' - 40 yrs - time flies! I love you - and enjoy reading this book - God Bless! Mom.' Condition: Book Near Fine - quarter-cloth binding and boards clean; binding tight and sound; text clean on bright, acid-free stock. Dust jacket Near Fine - crisp and unclipped, with only trivial shelf/rub wear at corners and a faint crease at folds. No other marks, stamps, or underlining; the text block appears unread. Edition/Printing: First edition, first printing. Random House first edition as stated on the copyright/colophon page; ISBN 0-679-43323-6. Trade edition (cloth boards with dust jacket).

Doubleday & Co. New York. 1962. 460 pages. First edition stated, first printing. Book's only flaw is light toning to endpapers and an old bookseller stamp on front pastedown hidden underneath the front DJ flap. Signed by Richard Nixon on a publisher's tipped in page using an autopen. Autopens are not pre-printed signatures as each and every page is individually signed, however they are mechanically enhanced. Essentially it is one degree off of a pre-printed signature. This title is notorious for autopen signatures. Original DJ with $5.95 price intact on flap. Bright and attractive DJ shows rubbing and one small chip on lower front corner. A VG DJ housing a near fine book. Signed with autopen; first edition, first printing.
