He made frequent contributions to the Outing Magazine, of which he was a staff member, and for the National Sportsman, American Boy, and others. Wallace was also active in Boy Scout work.

They are very clean, one speck of a spot on the rear side of the spine. The black lettering is nicely bright. There's just a little bit of crinkling at the spine ends. The cover edges are in excellent shape. So are the cover corners. The page edges look very good. The book is square and the spine is straight. The book is solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The rear cover does make one little crinkling sound when you close it from a wide open position. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any soiling at all. I'm also not finding any creasing at all. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The dust jacket is in solid shape. It's very clean. There is a slight bit of loss off both the top and bottom edges of the spine (second photo). There's a smallish tear off the front bottom edge, and a thin line of rubbing coming up from the bottom edge of the rear side of the spine. The rear cover looks very good with only one thin closed tear off its bottom edge. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. There is a penciled line over the price and a penciled number above that. I've had the dust jacket in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. Here's part of the author's N.Y. Times obituary: The Three Burials of Alston Anderson Alston Anderson was buried on Saturday for the second time ? or the third, if you count the slow sinking that constituted his long but unrewarded life. He was an African-American short-story writer, poet, novelist and jazz critic. He spent three years in the Army in World War II and three months of 1955 at Yaddo, the writers' colony in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He studied philosophy at Columbia and the Sorbonne. He had sharp talent and famous friends: Richard Wright, Terry Southern, Robert Graves. His work was chosen for anthologies of 'jazz fiction' and of the best 'Negro writers.' He had a story in The New Yorker and an interview with Nelson Algren in The Paris Review. What he didn't have were money, lasting acclaim and, evidently, family. When he died in Manhattan on July 15, 2008, at 84, no one claimed his remains. The government buried him in the potter's field at Hart Island. The next two and a half years would have extended into forever but for a program that tracks down the remains of indigent veterans and provides them proper military burials. That was how Mr. Anderson came to join 19 other veterans buried on Saturday at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island. No one could say much about them.
