[Signed] [First Edition] Complete Collection of the Albondocani Press Bixby, George [Used - Near fine] [Softcover] [Signed] [First Edition] Complete Collection of the Albondocani Press Bixby, George [Used - Near fine] [Softcover] 10035.18 CAD A complete set of signed limited editions from one of the great small fine presses of contemporary US literature, as well as its annual holiday cards (most illustrated by Edward Gorey) - the copies of the publisher's parents. Over three decades, Albondocani issued near forty beautiful signed limited edition fine press chapbooks from such authors as Tennessee Williams, Joyce Carol Oates, Reynolds Price, Denise Levertov, Saul Bellow, Katherine Anne Porter, William Styron, Flannery O'Connor, and Edward Gorey - whom it published more than any other author (nine times). Bixby's books were elegant: sometimes bound in striking wallpaper or colorful marbled wrappers, and almost all letterpress by Carol Sturm's Nadja Press. Bixby also befriended many of the authors he published, perhaps especially Katherine Anne Porter and Gorey. In addition to his publishing activities, for more than forty years George Bixby was a book dealer, issuing nearly 100 catalogues as Ampersand Books, specializing in modern firsts, fine press, and limited editions. Bixby served as Contributing Editor at the magazine AMERICAN BOOK COLLECTOR, penning numerous articles and serving as the general editor for their long-running series of bibliographic checklists. He also wrote the still-standard reference on the poet Thom Gunn (also among the writers published by Albondocani), co-authored with J.W.C. Hagstrom (Bertram Rota, 1979). This collection features all titles issued by Bixby, as well as every holiday card (with their original envelopes). This set originally belonged to Bixby's parents- most of the chapbooks are the letter "B" copies or out of series (Bixby retained the "A" copies for himself). A difficult set to assemble, especially with the cards, and with exceptional provenance. Various sizes, most 8.25'' x 5.25''. Majority original sewn decorative wrappers with mounted title cards; several original boards. Majority the "B" copies from the lettered edition of 26, balance almost all out of series (one numbered 9, one lettered "N"). Richard Wilbur's Elizabeth Bishop Memorial volume present in both wrappered (copy "B") and hardcover issues (lettered, in type, the "Harold Bixby" copy). Numerous announcements and other pieces of press ephemera laid in. With: 24 Albondocani holiday cards, all in their original mailing envelopes addressed to Bixby's parents. All volumes generally clean, sharp, and sound. A complete inventory is available.

A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the leather bright and fresh, with just a touch of rubbing to the extremities. The contents are clean throughout, and without previous owners' inscriptions or stamps. Housed in the lightly marked, structurally sound slipcase. Issued in an edition of 100 leather-bound copies, from which this example is numbered 40, and signed by Colin See-Paynton in black ink on the preface. A trade edition of 750 copies in a cloth binding was also issued. Widely regarded as the leading exponent of wood engraving in the UK, Colin See-Paynton's engravings are collected here for the first time into a complete portfolio, accompanied by extracts of text from piscatorial and ornithological literature chosen by Keith Harwood, from such writers as Arthur Ransome, W. B. Yeats, and Thomas Bewick. "Colin has brought a new vitality to one of the earliest forms of printmaking. Although his work is based on the meticulous observation of the natural world, his talent is to invent compositions which distil the ecological and behavioural relationships of the species and their habitats. He uses his knowledge and imagination to construct engravings of great complexity and refinement and has evolved something new by the patterning and layering of his images. Later compositions, particularly those from an underwater viewpoint, use an increasingly abstract and fluid line to capture the fast and fleeting movements of birds and fish" (artist's website). [First Edition] The Old Book Collector's Miscellany: or, A Collection of Readable Reprints of Literary Rarities: A rare complete presentation set, [First Edition] The Old Book Collector's Miscellany: or, A Collection of Readable Reprints of Literary Rarities: A rare complete presentation set, 1165.95 CAD The Old Book Collectors Miscellany: or, A Collection of Readable Reprints of Literary Rarities, Illustrative of the History, Literature, Manners, and Biography of the English Nation During the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries 1871 1873. Three volumes. Octavo. Uniformly rebound in red cloth (mid-20th century institutional rebinding), retaining original blue paper stock throughout. A rare complete set, with Volume I formally certified as one of only twelve copies printed on coloured paper. The certification page dated 30 September 1871 is signed by Charles Hindley, editor, and A. M. Robinson the printer, and includes the Strand address associated with Reeves & Turner. The publishers name is left blank, suggesting semi private distribution. Volumes II (1872) and III (1873) are also printed on blue paper, though no limitation or certification statement accompanies them. Their inclusion on coloured stock is unrecorded and bibliographically curious, especially given the staggered publication dates. It is possible that Hindley or his printer chose to continue the coloured paper format for consistency or presentation purposes, though no formal documentation confirms this. The result is a unique matched set, with all three volumes printed on blue paper an anomaly not previously recorded in institutional holdings. Volume II includes a printed dedication to John Cordy Burrows, J.P., past Mayor of Brighton. Volume III, though undedicated, matches the format and stock of the preceding volumes, suggesting intentional continuity. Each volume bears a Blackburn Public Libraries reference label (Class 820, No. 3479 etc.), affixed during institutional rebinding. The set was formerly held in the Reference Library and shows signs of careful preservation. All three volumes contain a handwritten signature: W. Ainsworth, in ink, Identity undetermined. Contents include reprints of 16th 17th century literary ephemera, including The Belman of London, The Cobler of Caunterburie, and The Merry Tales of Skelton. Hindleys editorial approach favored accessibility and popular appeal, though this set produced in a limited run and distributed to civic figures demonstrates a deliberate effort to elevate his work through presentation printing. A remarkably complete and institutionally preserved example of a scarce limited issue. The presence of blue paper across all three volumes, despite certification for Volume I only, makes this set bibliographically unique and worthy of further research. Provenance: Blackburn Public Libraries (Reference Library); private collection. Condition: Very good. Clean institutional rebinding; blue paper stock intact and in parts faded; minor foxing to endpapers; labels and signatures legible. Reference library bookplate and stamps in each volume. Feel free to contact us for a detailed account of this books provenance

Hospitals, schools, churches, theaters, hotels, homes, industry, bridges, diners, malls, amusement parks and more. Ohio holds a huge collection of history that continues to fade away. Eventually all that will be left of many of these places are the photographs and memories. Ohio has so much incredible history that has been saved, but at the same time so much history that remains throughout these abandoned places, practically forgotten. I find it sad and fascinating that these places are tossed aside like they are. Though they have been forgotten, there is such an interesting beauty inside their walls, decay and all. Factories such as the former Westinghouse, one of the most important in the history of the industrial revolution. George Westinghouse was also a pioneer of the electrical industry, gaining his first patent at the age of 19. His company had even employed Nikola Tesla. A former Westinghouse factory remains abandoned in Cleveland falling to pieces. The former Paisley Farms pickle jarring factory (shown on the cover) was abandoned for years and had become wildly overgrown before eventually being demolished. These photos hold its stories of years of abandonment. Once the largest mall in America, Randall Park Mall once sat on land now occupied by an Amazon distribution center. The mall had sat crumbling for years, and in this book you will find photos and history of the rise and fall of the massive shopping center. A church built in 1903, abandoned for 27 years nearly untouched. Fanny's Diner in the village of Collinwood. A former home-style 1950s diner, demolished in 2018. The industrial powerhouses that Ohio had become home to were some of the most important in history, and so many now sit abandoned, while some have been demolished. Companies that offered so much during World War II, rusting and rotting away. Cleveland was even home to the company that created the devices to monitor the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests (the tests that brought much of the story of Spongebob Squarepants to life) Among these, this book contains photos and history of numerous other locations, some that will be reserved specifically for this series of books.

Catch Me If You Can. New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1980. First edition, first printing. An extraordinary pre-publication association copy, inscribed by Frank Abagnale to Johnny Carson: "To Johnny, in deep appreciation for making all this possible," dated July 18, 1980, approximately six weeks prior to the book's reported publication. The association is especially significant in light of the dust jacket itself, which reproduces a photograph of Abagnale with Carson and notes that Abagnale's appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson created a sensation across the United States. The present inscription appears to acknowledge Carson's role in introducing Abagnale and his remarkable story to a national audience. The warm and revealing wording, coupled with the early date of inscription, transforms the volume from a desirable signed first edition into a compelling presentation copy to one of the most influential figures in American entertainment. Published in 1980, Catch Me If You Can recounts Abagnale's exploits as a teenage confidence man who successfully posed as an airline pilot, physician, attorney, and college professor while passing forged checks throughout the United States and abroad. The memoir became an international bestseller and later served as the basis for Steven Spielberg's celebrated 2002 film adaptation. A remarkable author-to-subject association copy linking Abagnale with the television personality whose program helped bring his story to national prominence. A fine book in a fine jacket. #catchmeifyoucan #johnnycarson #frankabagnale #truecrime #conman
