73.18 CAD
As new condition navy blue boards with silver spine lettering contained in a fine condition color illustrated dust jacket. Includes Praise for Saving Freedom; Author Dedication; Acknowledgments; Declaration of Independence; The Constitution of the United States and Notes. Illustrated with graphs and chart. "Now is the time for Americans to decide, once again, to fight for freedom. The United States - the world's great bastion of freedom - is sliding toward socialism. High profile bailouts and a stimulus bill have toppled the walls between government and private sectors. Federal control now extends in various ways to education, health car, financial markets, real estate, businesses, and religion. And as out-of-control government spending and debt increase, America is drained of the economic and political strength its people fought for and worked so hard to achieve. But it isn't too late to save the land of the free. Saving Freedom is U.S. Senator Jim DeMint's firsthand account of the unsettling socialist shift, backed by a complete action plan to reclaim America's freedom based on legislation that would reduce debt, fix Social Security, and provide a tax credit for every family. He also emphasizes reversing America's cultural decline by restoring a strong spirit of faith, family, and freedom." - from the rear outer jacket. "My wife and four children traveled to D.C. to watch from the House gallery as I took the oath of office. The oath was a simple pledge to defend the Constitution. I rarely heard the Constitution spoken of again. It was never used as justification for legislation because there was little we did that fit within the limited powers of the federal government specified by the Constitution. The principle that has been lost by today's politicians is limited government. When our legislators ignore the limits established by the Constitution, there is no limit to government at all. Many Americans want out of this abusive marriage with the federal government. As I've traveled this nation, thousands of Americans have confirmed this fact; many grabbing my arm, asking with passion and urgency, "How can I help?" Americans will fight for their freedom, but we need leaders who will show the way. We need a clear vision and a pathway out of our dependency. We need to understand how to translate our values and principles into policies that will reduce the government stranglehold on our beliefs, our economy, and our lives. We must believe freedom will work for everyone. And we need to know the true enemy of freedom: socialism. - U.S. Senator Jim Demint" - from the inner front jacket flap. "Once again, as we did in 1776, Americans must choose between freedom and oppression. In Saving Freedom, Jim DeMint describes he clear and present danger posed by big government - and what we must do to preserve individual liberty and personal responsibility. Every American needs to read this book." - Sean Hannity. "Saving Freedom is a new Declaration of Independence...

Blodstained Sea recounts how, over the next four years, these men -- normally dedicated to saving lives and resuing ships in distress -- would be locked in one of the longest and bloodiest running sea battles in history. Americans called it Torpedo Junction; to the Germans, it was Devil's Gorge. By any name, the North Atlantic of the early 1940s was one of the most dangerous fronts in a catastrophic war. Called upon in desperate times, seven of the Coast Guard's finest ships...

235.18 CAD
A substantial official survey of the United States Capitol's art collection, prepared by the Architect of the Capitol under the direction of the Joint Committee on the Library. This comprehensive volume documents 677 works of art as of December 1974, including presidential portraits, sculpture, murals, and architectural ornamentation. Entries provide detailed descriptions, measurements, and locations throughout the Capitol complex. Illustrated throughout with both color and black-and-white plates, the work remains an important reference for American political art and federal collections. This copy carries notable and historically charged provenance: laid in is a typed letter on United States Senate stationery dated August 13, 1976, signed 'Pete' (Harrison A. Williams Jr., U.S. Senator from New Jersey, 1959-1982), presenting the volume as a gift. The front endpaper is additionally inscribed, 'Best wishes, Pete Williams.' Williams was later convicted in the ABSCAM corruption investigation (1981) and resigned from the Senate in 1982, adding a layer of political history and collector interest to this association copy. First Edition, 1976, as indicated by the Government Printing Office imprint and Library of Congress Card Catalog Number 72-600081. Issued without dust jacket, as typical for this government publication. A solid, well-preserved example of a large-format institutional work. Condition: Near Fine. Two-tone cloth binding remains clean and structurally sound with light shelf wear and mild rubbing at extremities; spine lettering clear. Interior is bright and unmarked aside from the inscription; plates clean and well-preserved. The accompanying Senate letter is in Near Fine condition, crisp with original folds and no significant wear. This work was produced by the Office of the Architect of the Capitol under the direction of the Joint Committee on the Library, reflecting institutional authorship. The Architect of the Capitol is responsible for the stewardship and documentation of the Capitol's art and architecture. Publications like this serve as authoritative records of the nation's legislative art holdings and are valued as both reference works and historical documents.

During the Kennedy administration, Katzenbach was Deputy Attorney General, while Harriman (the former Governor of New York) was Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs. While both men had political careers too long to describe in this space, it's worth noting that both became deeply involved in behind-the-scenes efforts during the Johnson administration to end the Vietnam War.
