[Signed] [First Edition] Blue Smoke: A Book of Verse [Inscribed to Witter Bynner with a Binner TLS to another Person, discussing a Book Thief] BAKER, 285.18 CAD First edition. Decorative paper over boards with printed cover label, two foredges unopened. Spine heavily toned and boards with some toning and foxing, modest offsetting on the flyleaves, very good. Poet and translator Witter Bynner's copy with his bookplate on the front pastedown and Inscribed to him: "For Witter Bynner / With the best wishes of / Karle Wilson Baker / December 1919." Laid in is a 1938 two-page TLS from Binner (16mo sheets of his Santa Fe letterhead with the typed envelope present) to Thomas A. Larremore. Binner is responding to Larremore's announcement that he was in possession of a book Inscribed to Binner (presumably this one), and writes in part: "I feel a bit shamefaced to have let a presentation copy of a book to me escape with the inscription. In dismantling our New York apartment, I had to leave a great many books behind, but I had intended to strip personal copies of the [inscribed] pages. since you have the book, I cannot be displeased." On the second page Binner writes a 10-line postscript, inquiring about the author and title of the book in question, and adding an interesting anecdote: "a young poet who had access to my house here stole a number of autographed volumes. Later, after we had met, he wrote me a note to say that he liked me well enough to be returning them and sent back quite a package including a number of Amy Lowell's [sic]. Possibly he did not return them all." Baker's first book of poems; under the pseudonym Charlotte Wilson, she co-authored of *Women and Prisons*, published in London by the Fabian Society in 1912. Baker was born in Little Rock but spent much of her time in Texas; she would go on to publish several more collections of poems as well as several books with Texas themes. An interesting copy.

[First Edition] RIDERS OF THE STARS: A Book of Western Verse. handwritten presentation inscription by Robert F. McGraw ("R.F."), the very individual 760.18 CAD First Edition. Hardcover. First Edition. Original publisher's blue cloth, decoratively stamped in silver, white, black, and brown, featuring a cowboy on horseback to the front cover and silver lettering with decoration to the spine. The silver stamping remains bright and sharply defined against the black accents, creating a striking example of early twentieth-century Western book design. A highly desirable association copy, featuring a handwritten presentation inscription by Robert F. McGraw ("R.F."), the individual to whom Henry Herbert Knibbs dedicated this collection. The front free endpaper bears McGraw's presentation inscription, dated May 1917: "To my friend Carroll. Soul of the true adventurer singing his heart's desire. RF May 1917." The inscription is particularly significant as McGraw quotes the central lines from the printed dedication poem that Knibbs wrote in his honour on page ix of this volume: "Rifle and rope and spur Trail and the wayside fire Soul of the true adventurer Singing his heart's desire." By echoing Knibbs' own words, McGraw transforms this from a conventional presentation inscription into a remarkable literary association. His quotation of the dedication establishes a direct connection between the author, the dedicatee, and the recipient of the book. Copies preserving this unique relationship are exceptionally scarce. The inscription is written in a clear, legible contemporary hand, with the ink remaining dark and well preserved. A very good example internally. Pages are clean, tight, and securely bound, with light age toning to the margins as expected. Hinges are sound with no structural splitting. The blue cloth binding remains attractive, with only minor shelf wear and light rubbing consistent with its age. The spine is intact with minimal bumping to the head and tail, and the silver lettering and cowboy vignette remain exceptionally bright. An outstanding association copy of one of Henry Herbert Knibbs' finest collections of Western verse, combining a handsome first-edition binding with a rare and meaningful inscription by Robert F. McGraw, the dedicatee commemorated in the volume's opening poem.
