[First Edition] Me and My Dad: A Baseball Memoir [VINTAGE 2003] [FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING] O'Neill, Paul; Rocks, Burton [Used - Fine] [Hardcover]
73.18 CAD
Fine unread condition dark blue boards, white spine and gold spine lettering contained in a fine condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes Author Dedication; Acknowledgments; Prologue: Keep the Faith; "Extra-Inning Stretch"; and Epilogue: Dad's Legacy. Illustrated with a section of black-and-white photographic plates. "Paul O'Neill was the undisputed heart and soul of the four-time World Series-winning New York Yankees from 1993 to 2001. A champion and an icon, he was a dedicated, intense athlete who not only wore the trademark pinstripes with pride, he bled blue and white. O'Neill epitomized the team's motto of hard work and good sportsmanship, traits instilled in him by the man who was his friend, confidant, lifelong model, and biggest fan: his dad, Chick O'Neill. Paul O'Neil has rarely spoken publicly about the significant role his father played in his baseball career. But now, in Me and My Dad, he speaks from the heart about the man who inspired in him a love for the game and a determination to always play his best. For some, baseball is more than a game - it's a way of life. Chick O'Neill was one of those people. Paul recounts how his father, after serving as a paratrooper in World War II, pitched in the California minor league, until he discovered that his true passion was his family. Later he was devoted to his son's dream of becoming a professional ball player and was always there - from coaching Little League to being in the stadium when Paul played for the Cincinnati Reds and the New York Yankees. In Me and My Dad, Paul also remembers the highlights of his amazing career: being called up to the majors by the Reds, his first World Series, being traded to the Yankees - and taking part in their phenomenal four World Series wins. He also reflects on his father's untimely death during the 1999 World Series and the farewell tribute given to him by his fans during his last game in Yankee Stadium. Paul O'Neill's memories treat us to Yankee stories, hometown tales, and valuable insights into what has made him the person he is today, all of it shaped by his relationship with his father." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps.

A first edition of Fata Morgana, a genre-blending novel by Steven R. Boyett and Ken Mitchroney, published by Blackstone Publishing. Combining World War II historical fiction with speculative science fiction, the novel follows the crew of a B-17 Flying Fortress on a bombing mission over Germany who are abruptly transported into a surreal and hostile alternate world. The narrative draws heavily on authentic period detail - aviation procedures, crew roles, and combat conditions - while layering in imaginative elements of time displacement and mythic conflict. Mitchroney's background in visual storytelling is reflected in the inclusion of technical illustrations, such as the labeled B-17 crew diagram. This copy is a true first edition, with 'First edition: 2017' stated on the copyright page and a full number line (1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2). The original dust jacket is present, featuring strong promotional blurbs from notable authors including Cory Doctorow and John Scalzi. Condition is Near Fine in a Near Fine dust jacket. The black cloth boards are clean and sharp with minimal handling wear. The jacket is bright and attractive, with light edgewear and a barcode sticker on the rear panel. Interior pages are clean, unmarked, and appear unread. Blackstone Publishing, known primarily for audiobooks, has expanded into print editions with a focus on genre fiction, particularly science fiction and fantasy. This title reflects that transition period and is representative of their early hardcover trade releases. Steven R. Boyett is an American novelist known for blending speculative fiction with literary sensibility. He first gained attention with Ariel (1983), a cult-classic post-apocalyptic fantasy, and later works such as Elegy Beach. Beyond novels, Boyett has written for film and animation, including work with Pixar, and has had a varied creative career spanning music, design, and digital media. Ken Mitchroney is an American artist, writer, and filmmaker with a background in animation and comic art. He has worked as a storyboard artist and director on major animated projects including The LEGO Movie, Toy Story 2, and Ant Bully. Mitchroney has also been involved in underground comics and illustration, and brings a strong visual storytelling style to his collaborative fiction work.
