Signed by the Swedish educational psychologist Torsten Husén (19162009), this 1969 first edition offers follow-up interviews with the 1500 third graders originally tested 26 years prior, part of a socioeconomic study dealing with the predictive value of social backround, tested intelligence, and teacher ratings at the age of 10 for later success in terms of educational and vocational careers. This 1969 signed first edition was inscribed by Husen to the British economist John Vaizey, and most lately comes from the personal library of Anders Ericsson (1947-2020), "The Expert on Experts," the late cognitive psychologist known for his influential work on deliberate practice and expert performance, adding noteworthy provenance linking two generations of groundbreaking psychological theory in the history of modern psychology. Signed and inscribed "with kindest regards" by Torsten Husen to British economist John Vaizey, who specialized in education. 8 5/8" X 5 5/8". 309pp. Rather heavy wear to dust jacket, with chipping and open tears to edges, extremities, and to head and tail of spine, dust soiling to panels, and label to rear panel. Bound in blue cloth over boards, with three circles stamped in silver to upper board and spine lettered in kind. Milder wear to binding, with hard bumping to corners and to tail of spine. Slight lean to spine; binding remains firm and sound. Pages are clean and unmarked.

Dutton was the widow of William Hampden Dutton (1805-1849); her mother's maiden name was Da Silva. In 1849, William's brother Francis Stacker Dutton (1818-1877) married MacDermott's daughter Caroline. The Duttons and their pastoral property, Anlaby, were household names in South Australia for generations; to put them into context, 'While working at Anlaby in 1842 Francis had discovered with Captain Charles Bagot the Kapunda copper mine' ('Australian Dictionary of Biography').

The first edition of this very scarce biographical study of spy and major in the British Army John Andre, from American writer Winthrop Sargent, grandson of the Federalist Party politician of the same name, and with a portrait and letter from the author loosely inserted.This letter from Winthrop Sargent appears on the stationary of the Manhattan Club, the notorious social club founded in 1865 as the Democratic answer to the Union Club. Dated September 23rd 1866, a year after the club's formation, and addressed to Mr. Hack, the letter reads:'Dear Sir, Your [.] is just received on our return to town. The letters of John Andrews were (I fancy) fewer in the separate pamphlet form mentioned by you, under the auspices of the Hon. Charles Deane of the Map. Hist. Soc.
