This LIMITED FIRST EDITION of The Patient Has the Floor, is the true first edition of the book and precedes the trade edition, has been Privately Printed, and personally SIGNED by Alistair Cooke exclusively for members of The Signed First Edition Society. A total of 201 various classic First Editions by various authors were issued by the Franklin Library from 1983 until they ceased publishing in 2000. Alistair Cooke (1908 2004) was a British journalist, television personality and broadcaster. Outside his journalistic output, which included Letter from America and Alistair Cooke's America, he was well known in the United States as the host of PBS Masterpiece Theatre from 1971 to 1992. The book contains fourteen lively and informative speeches made by Alistair Cooke. The title comes from the annual Convocation Address he delivered at the Mayo Clinic on the topic of medicine from the non-professional's point of view. That speech led to invitations to speak before attorneys, architects, the US Congress, the military and academicians. Cooke's favourite speeches are collected here.
