85.13 CAD
A true first printing of one of Atwood's major novels of the 1990s, exploring themes of female friendship, power, and deception through the enigmatic figure of Zenia. Published under the Nan A. Talese imprint, this is the correct first U.S. trade edition, distinct from the separately issued Franklin Library signed limited edition noted on the copyright page. The jacket retains the original price ($23.50), confirming first-state issue. Condition: Book is Very Good+, with clean boards and strong gilt, though there is visible waviness to the rear endpapers from prior moisture exposure; text block remains clean and readable. Dust jacket is Very Good, showing edge wear, rubbing, and light creasing but no major losses; presents well in a protective sleeve. A solid, collectible first printing of a key Atwood title. Margaret Atwood (b. 1939) is one of the most influential contemporary authors in English, best known for works such as The Handmaid's Tale, Cat's Eye, and Alias Grace. The exposed page edges are unblemished but mildly tanned. The corners of the boards are blunted but not bruised. The bottom edge of the front paste down was torn when extra paper was removed due to an error at the binding stage. The price intact jacket has darkened, and a 3 x 8 inch section of the front panel is sunned, next to the spine with a corresponding but barely discernible shadow on the front board. There are two one-inch tears in the top edge of the back panel, one with associated wrinkles. The heel and crown of the jacket's spine have softened, as have the folds in the jacket. The edges of the flaps are crisp. The Testaments offered here is the edition that was pre-signed on a preliminary page, with a sticker on the back panel of the jacket that bears the ISBN for the signed edition and which covers the ISBN for the trade edition printed on the jacket. Full navy blue cloth with decorated end papers and silver titles. The book is tight and unread with sharp corners. The jacket is bright, crisp and price intact with sharp edges. The Testaments was co-winner of the Booker Prize. Also available from this bookseller are multiple examples of the author's back list.
