[Signed] [First Edition] Ounce Dice Trice (Signed by Ben Shahn) (One-Of-A-Kind) Alastair Reid [Used - Very good] [Hardcover]
145.18 CAD
Stated First Edition. Once listed, this will be the Only copy signed by the artist/illustrator for sale anywhere on the Internet. His signature can be seen off the top edge of the blank front end paper (see photo). You can see the covers in the photos. They are clean with the exception of what looks like a small water stain just below the front top corner. The brown lettering on the front and the spine is nicely bright. There is a tiny loss of cloth at the bottom edge of the spine, a little crinkling at the top edge. The two corners of the rear cover have a tiny bump/crease. However neither had any impact on the pages. That book is also the case with the stain off the front top corner, no impact on the interior of the book. The cover edges are in solid shape, no rubbing. Same goes for the cover corners. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book looks very good. There is a little tan rectangular shape off the top edge of the front inside cover and facing signed front end paper. You can see it in the second photo of the signed page. It does not recur anywhere else in the book. The pages are exceptionally clean. Scrolling through I found only one page with a speck-sized spot. I didn't find any creasing on any of the text pages. There are two blank rear end papers. The first one has a mild crease. All of the illustrations are in perfect condition. There are no markings in the book. No attachments of any kind. And Mr. Shahn's signature is the only writing to be found anywhere. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It has one tear a little ways down from the front top edge. There are losses at both spine ends. The spine is toned to tan. There's also a little loss at the rear top corner, and tiny ones at the other corners. There is handling soiling off the front bottom edge, a little off the rear bottom edge as well. There is a little tab of tape off the top edge of the front flap. Not sure why, there's no tear there. The flaps are otherwise in very nice condition, very clean, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped($3.00), not clipped at all. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover. [Signed] [First Edition] Ishmael Reed Flight to Canada Signed 1st Ed 1976 Random House HC Ishmael Reed [Used - Very good] [Hardcover]
135.18 CAD
A satirical and formally inventive Civil War novel widely regarded as one of Ishmael Reed's most important works. The story follows Raven Quickskill, an enslaved poet whose satirical verse sparks an escape from a Virginia plantation toward freedom in Canada. Reed blends historical narrative with modern language, metafiction, and sharp political humor, collapsing past and present to critique American myths surrounding slavery, race, and national identity. Published during the height of Reed's literary influence, Flight to Canada remains a landmark of postmodern African-American literature and is frequently cited alongside his earlier novel Mumbo Jumbo. Bound in publisher's brown paper-covered boards with black cloth spine stamped in gilt. The copyright page states 'First Edition,' confirming the 1976 Random House first printing. The dust jacket retains the original price $6.95 and rear panel code 9/76, consistent with the correct first issue jacket. Condition: Book Very Good, with institutional provenance but notably cleaner than typical ex-library copies. Montgomery County Library stamps appear on the title and copyright pages and ghosting on top and side edge. Front and rear pastedowns remain adhered in standard library format, but there is no evidence of removed card pockets, date slips, spine labels, or circulation wear, suggesting the volume may never have circulated and was possibly retained in reference or special collections. Author inscription in blue ink on the title page ('For Betty - Ishmael Reed'). Text block clean with mild age toning; binding firm and square. Boards show light edgewear and minor rubbing. Dust jacket Very Good, unclipped, with light edgewear and small creases but no major tears. Ishmael Reed (b. 1938) is an influential American novelist, poet, playwright, and essayist known for his satirical and postmodern literary style. A founder of the Before Columbus Foundation and longtime professor at the University of California, Berkeley, Reed gained international recognition for novels such as Mumbo Jumbo (1972) and Flight to Canada (1976), works that challenge conventional historical narratives and explore African-American cultural identity through humor, myth, and experimental storytelling.

"I don't remember how many films I wrote for Jack Lemmon, but I know it wasn't enough. I gladly would have done it forever." - Neil Simon. "Jack was extraordinary, yet 'normal,' a credit to the human species who strive to be 'normal' like him. It was magic to be.in his presence." - Shirley MacLaine. "If I were restricted to only one actor I could work with for the rest of my career, without a doubt it would be Jack Lemmon." - Blake Edwards. "Jack Lemmon was an American original and a real class act, traits he passed on to his son, Chris. I loved Jack Lemmon, and I always felt he loved me back." - Andy Garcia. "Off camera, [Jack Lemmon] was a member of our extended film family - without ego and self-effacing, playing our grand piano at every opportunity . regaling us with stories and chatting up the cast and crew, all of whom adored him.I miss him very much." - Julie Andrews. "Jack Lemmon was one of our most beloved movie stars. A two-time Academy Award winner, he appeared in dozens of memorable films including such classics as Some Like it Hot, Mister Robers, The Odd Couple, Grumpy Old Men, Missing, The Apartment, and The China Syndrome. On-screen, he came across as a kind of "everyman" - audiences loved him because they felt they knew him, because he was one of them. In A Twist of Lemmon, Chris Lemmon shares family tales, intimate father-son conversations, and anecdotes from and about his dad. The result is a vivid and enchanting portrait of a less-than-perfect father who in some ways assumed a greater reality for his fans than his did for his son. Chris writes about the difficulty of growing up in a broken home, the treasured time spent with his father, and the friendship that evolved as they came to share their passions for both music and golf. This very personal portrait provides new insight into a man who charmed millions with his rascal's smile and his very human vulnerability. When Jack Lemmon died in 2001, the world lost one of its favorite actors, but Chris Lemmon lost the man he had admired above all others. [The book] is his warm and moving and often very funny celebration of his larger-than-life father. Joining Chris in his tribute are a number of the people who worked with Jack Lemmon over the years, including actor Kevin Spacey. In his foreword, Spacey writes, "He was a credit to his profession because he was a man whose humanity was bigger than his talent. And when you think for a moment about the size and depth of that talent, then you begin to understand how seriously he took his role as a human being." In this first book of its kind written about Jack...
