This copy has almost no damage to case but it requires care and patience to take books out of case. Slight spotting on book covers. Contents are fine. See images on website.

First edition, limited to 750 signed copies, this no. 564 of 700 standard copies. An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 to 1950 provides bibliographical details of the books listed, together with brief notes on the titles, and has become a standard reference in the field. As Jim Casada wrote in his 'Foreword', 'what this reference book does, and does wondrously well, is provide readers with a comprehensive guide to the literature of African big game hunting down to mid-twentieth century. His parameters when it comes to what should be included and excluded are, in my view, eminently sensible. [. . .] This book should instantly become a standard source for any serious reader or collector of big game books dealing with Africa. From a reference standpoint, it has a number of uses. For someone relatively new to the wonderful game that is armchair adventure, the bibliography offers a ready road map to forming a representative collection, and the fact that the author includes detailed annotation with the entries adds to the book's value in this regard. Similarly, for the more advanced collector, here is a ready index to the status of his collection as well as a working list telling him where there are gaps in the shelves yet to be filled. Or, taken from a different perspective, anyone researching any aspect of the subject has in his hands an invaluable reference tool' (p. [10]). An Annotated Bibliography of African Big Game Hunting Books 1785 to 1950 was published in a limited edition of 750 copies, of which this is one of 700 signed by the author and in the standard binding. [Signed] [First Edition] THE HAPPY HUNTING-GROUNDS (SIGNED) Roosevelt, Kermit ; [SIGNED] [Used - Very good] [Hardcover]
335.13 CAD
Autograph; (x), 182 pages; Brown cloth boards with beige title and beige and orange design at front board with silohuette of two hunters standing over a water buffalo trophy. Three leaves have 1/8 inch chip at top margin. Frontispiece and 15 additional black and white photographs taken by the author. Kermit Roosevelt's signature on ffep; SIGNED on the ffep [book actually signed, NOT one of the tipped in labels]. Provenance: Purchased from Roosevelt family members from of a group of books belonging to Kermit and Belle Roosevelt. A few passages underlined in pencil, including: "[My father] explained to me that [this trip to Africa] was a holiday that he was allowing himself at fifty, after a very busy life -- that if I went I would have to make up my mind that my holiday was coming at the beginning of my life, and be prepared to work doubly hard to justify both him and myself for having taken it." Illegible (to me) pencil note on rear board. In this collection of essays, Roosevelt recounts his travels around the globe on various hunting trips with his father and siblings. The title essay is Kermit's reminiscence of his father Theodore Roosevelt. The other five essays include three that had been previously published in magazines. Written in the spirit of his father Theodore Roosevelt's wilderness books, The Happy Hunting Grounds is a collection of hunting stories, some of which recount the expeditions Kermit took with his father. Theodore once said of his son, "It is rare for a boy with his refined tastes and his genuine appreciation of literature -- and of so much else -- to be also an exceptionally bold and hardy sportsman." Kermit Roosevelt (1889 1943) was a son of U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt. He was an explorer, a graduate of Harvard University, a soldier serving in two world wars with both the British and U.S. Armies, a businessman and a writer. Kermit Roosevelt accompanied Theodore Roosevelt on expeditions to Africa and the Amazon. Theodore Roosevelt's book Through the Brazilian Wilderness recounted the father-and-son expedition into the Amazon Basin Brazilian jungle in 191314. What became known as the Roosevelt-Rondon Scientific Expedition, exploring the Brazilian jungle with explorer Colonel Cândido Rondon, they explored the River of Doubt, later renamed Rio Roosevelt in honor of the President.; Signed by Author

275.18 CAD
Part of the Marvel Graphic Novel series, a stand-alone story featuring two Marvel superheroes who team up to save the universe from aliens. In a bizarre subplot, Hulk wears an octopus, or an octopus-like creature, on his head, giving him something of the appearance of a monster out of H. P. Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos (about the time he did this graphic novel, Wrightson was working on concept drawings for an unproduced film based on Lovecraft's The Shadow Over Innsmouth, so tentacles may have been on his mind). If I'm being honest, this seems like uninspired corporate hack work. Even so, Wrightson was one of the great comic book artists and there are some pages that echo his finer drawings. 64 pages. First edition (no indication of later printings). A near fine copy with light surface scuffing, signed by both Wrightson and Starlin. The book is common; doubled signed copies are hard to find.
