Notable toning to title page, occasional foxing and toning throughout. Solid text block, solid hinges. (Thomson, 119) (Howes F-144). Reverend James Finley (1781-1856), a Wyandot missionary appointed by the Methodist Episcopal Church, converted over half of the Wyandot people in present-day Wyandot County, Ohio to Christianity. This autobiography details Finley's appointment as a missionary and his early experiences with the American Indians, including the formation of a mission school. Finley spent six years among the Wyandots, from 1821 until 1827. With the help of Wyandot leaders Between-the Logs and Mononcue, Finley ran a school, store, and farm in addition to the church. Fifty-one children attended the school before Finley left his position due to poor health. The Wyandots were removed to Kansas in 1843. (Ohio Memory Collection).

ALLEN GINSBERG (June 3, 1926-April 5, 1997) was an American poet and writer. As a student at Columbia University in the 1940s, he formed friendships with William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac, forming the core of the Beat Generation. He vigorously opposed militarism, economic materialism and sexual repression and he embodied various aspects of the counterculture with his views on drugs, sex and hostility to bureaucracy. Offering his Cosmopolitan Greetings. Poems. 1986-1992. Signed and Inscribed. New York: HarperCollins 1994. 118 pp. First Edition, First Printing, Hardcover. Black paper-covered boards, quarter-bound in black cloth with gold design stamped on front board and metallic purple lettering on the spine. A straight, square and tight copy. Barley visible stain on top text block edge and a darker red stain to the top right corner of text block, slightly affecting the corner of some pages. Dust jacket is clean and bright. This copy is signed by Ginsberg with his AH trademark and INSCRIBED for Milt Rosen. This could be Milt Rosen, who is the founding chair of the Progressive Labor Party. Or perhaps the Milt Rosen, who was a famous Hollywood writer. Additionally, Ginsberg writes Karme Choling under the HarperCollins logo, which is the name of a Buddhist meditation center in Vermont. Ginsberg spent time there under the tutelage of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche. Rinpoche, who was the founder of the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado, had a real respect for Beat poets for their abilities to use their writing as a tool for raising consciousness. A wonderful copy by the leading figure in the Beat Generation movement with his signature, trademark and the mentioning of Karme Choling. Octavo, 330pp. Presumed first thus, unstated, which seems to have been typical of Random House plays during this period. A very good copy, sunned on the spine, with mold toning to extremities. Small ink scribble on the rear free endpaper. Lacking the dust jacket. A superb association copy, and in part the dedication copy, SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Hellman on the front free endpaper to Herman Shumlin, who produced and directed all four of these plays on Broadway: ""For Herman, see page xii Lillian Feb 1942."" The passage referenced reads, ""Herman Shumlin has directed and produced all four of the plays. On all four he has worked with the high seriousness which is the first requirement of a good artist."" She continues for a full paragraph, extolling his virtues as a director and interpreter of her work. ""Watch on the Rhine"" was dedicated to Shumlin, and that dedication leaf appears just before the play in this volume, as it did in the first trade edition. An extremely appealing association copy.
